A friend of mine ended up randomly drinking with him once
along with a few other players, possibly Skip, a couple others I can’t remember. She knew some DJ at some club that was friends with one of them, and he invited her along to hang out. She didn’t know who any of them were. I literally had to sit down at the computer and show her pictures and ask “how about him, was he there?” I was kind of a little jealous.

This is just so uncomfortably obvious...
Al just constantly trashing Colby, but just falls all over himself at the opportunity to slob Ankiel’s Rick (if you will) after a HR in a blowout.
did you miss the part
when he was getting on Ankiel for taking his time on a throw from right field that allowed a single to be a double?
eh
I saw/heard it.
He talked about how Ank kinda goaded him into running on him, only to dick around too much and give up the extra base.
Seems like he’s just way to quick to rip Colby (or B. Ryan, for that matter) but gives Ank (and even Dunc) a pass far too often. I guess it just bugs me that he’s not even-handed in his comments.
seriously?
Ank been hurt for almost a year. his at bats have been gawd awful to watch. until tonight he did nothing to help the team win since he came off the DL.
It kind of sounds like he’s [Duncan] just running around like a puppy out there – full speed ahead in random directions. – BTown Birds Fan
seriously
He has a .879 of this last week. His average has been higher than Pujols, Molina, Ludwick, and Skippy in the losing streak. He has hit better than anyone not named Rasmus or Ryan.
all those hits were also when the games were out of reach
again, till tonight, he’s done nothing to help them win
It kind of sounds like he’s [Duncan] just running around like a puppy out there – full speed ahead in random directions. – BTown Birds Fan
I think that in principle, Evilfrog has a good point
Ank has looked just lost for a good while, but I think what frog was saying is that it seems like people are quick to give Colby a pass for making rookie mistakes/dogging it/trying to bunt for no apparent reason/etc.
and why should we not?
he is a rookie. he’s not perfect. when he doesn’t play & Dick & Dunk do we should be mad because he’s better than both of those two put together.
and he’s not dogging it. he’s just that damn good.
It kind of sounds like he’s [Duncan] just running around like a puppy out there – full speed ahead in random directions. – BTown Birds Fan
dude, I dig Colby
and think that he’s clearly earned the everyday CF job.
He’s outplayed Dunc, fo ‘sho and I definitely don’t understand why TLR insists on sitting him (and Ludwick, earlier this year) in favor of a struggling Ank and/or Dunc.
However, I think Frog’s point (and my support of it) is just to be more even-handed in our criticism/praise. For such a quantitative community that seemingly favors objectivity wherever possible, I can see how it’s a little frustrating when the same logic isn’t applied across the board.
any players that are criticized here deserve it
there are too many intelligent posters to allow someone to rip on a player who does not deserve it
It kind of sounds like he’s [Duncan] just running around like a puppy out there – full speed ahead in random directions. – BTown Birds Fan
well, that or we just get sick
of defending guys over and over from people who rip on them undeservingly.
- "I went at it and didn’t slow down, so it kind of bounced off me." -Lil' Dunc
yeah. That's more the point
People pick out scape goats. Thursty, Duncan, and Ankiel are the prime ones. Every time they do something bad they get jumped on them. Even when they do something good people seem to dismiss it.
Some players can never do anything wrong. Ludwick, Rasmus, Molina.
I mean, Ankiel has been bad this year. But some of the hate.
Maybe Stav will push him down the ladder one more rung. . . he and Barden can compete

tough lineup calls for tomorrow
Getaway, very early day game, so some folks might think it’s not a bad idea to sit AP tomorrow.
However, with the lefty, TLR’s hands might be tied as far as giving Albert a break.
IF Albert sits, I guess you’d put Duncan at 1B, then maybe:
Ryan 2B
Dunc 1B
Ludwick LF
Ras CF
Ank RF
Greene SS
LaRue (seems like Yadi sits when Welley pitches) C
Barden 3B
Welley P
I dunno….maybe Albert shouldn’t take tomorrow off ;-)
Vs a lefty Stav will play
and he can play first or OF so I don’t think all 3 lefty OFs will be there

I posted this on the game thread, but anyway, you might like:
I noticed that the Cards struck out zero times last night, pretty cool. Also hit the first 3R HR since 4/25 (YIKES). Anyway, the Marlins are giving us a taste of our medicine this series. They have struck us out in just 6.0% of our PAs, but walked us in only 4.8%. They really are "pitching to contact" – 89.2% of our PAs against them have resulted in a ball in play. The 2 game set against the Phils was the second closest to that number, with 87.5%, and those two are the real outliers as our rate against everyone else is below 80%.
In contrast, we struck out in 24.5% of our PAs against the Bravos, and walked in 15.4% vs. the Royals. Interesting stuff.
I should caveat that a we accumulated only 80 – 100 PAs against a couple teams, so not really too reliable.
I have more data if anyone is interested.

wow....
just wow.
I figured we’d have the Ryan/Greene 2B/SS combo, with Barden getting some face time also, but man, I just don’t get sitting Colby.
neither Ankiel Nor Rasmus
has been good against lefties this year. But Rasmus has been better and does player better Defense. Only “logical” reason is Tony trying to protect his rookies…
I love the Ryan/Green Combo.
LHP splits for both
Ank – .161/.212/.226 on 31 PA, 11 SO and 0 BB
CR – .128/.244/.205 on 43 PA, 7 SO and 4 BB
Man
I never thought I’d say anything like this… but that Ops of .449 Colby has going is clearly superior. More OBP at .244 (still, blech). Fewer Ks, more BBs. Despite how terrible they both are Colby’s is less terrible.
There's no "I" in team. There's also no "I" in "B-g Mac Land".
FWIW: Colby's minor league splits
vs. LHP: .275/.371/.455/.826
vs RHP: .278/.364/.496/.860
Not saying its perfect, but probably more indicative than 43 PAs.

Ank had a good game last night, so Tony’s gonna play the hot bat (note: this convention doesn’t hold for OFs not named Ankiel and Duncan). Also, it’s a LHP so you gotta figure Lud’s in, and probably Stav as well.
