Interview with Shelby Miller
To start this off, I was an avid reader of Fire Joe Morgan. It will make sense why I said that in a moment. I wasn't able to follow the draft live because I was out all evening, but when I got back I was pleased to discover that with their 1st pick the Cardinals had selected Shelby Miller. I'd heard of the kid a little bit, but I was obviously a little curious to read up on him more in depth. I found this interview with him over in the Future Redbirds draft chat. It's really a great interview and it helps one get an idea of Shelby's personality. So, the guy's from Texas. So, the interviewer asks, you played football, right? Shelby's response: "Oh yeah, I definitely play football. My father and I talked about it and decided that I was going to keep playing my senior year here in Brownwood. After I made that decision I ended up being named all-state punter and first-team receiver, and we had a great year." Let me repeat: all-state punter. Ring any bells? Obviously, it's a little different. He's in high school, not college; plus, he didn't win the national championship. Also, he hopefully doesn't...suck. But still. A punter. It strikes me as hilarious. Anyway, more seriously, I was actually pleased with the draft this year. I'm glad the organization broke their own typical draft strategy a little bit, and now I hope we can just sign these guys. With that, I hope I did this right, and I'm out.
