I love that the Giants feed show the umps
standing and talking about the lineup card – but in all of that time, never once mention the defensive changes for the Cards.
It's moments like right now when I hate Tony La Russa
I've got one foot on the platform, the other foot on the train
I'm going back to New Orleans, to wear that ball and chain
I usually am
But he just burned Duncan when he could have had Rasmus in there to face a RHP…IN THE FIFTH INNING

I don't understand the utility
in burning two bench players instead of one in the 5th, when yr bench is already short. Agreed on that.
Exactly

one of which was an XBH
You want me to pat him on the back instead? You could blame schu for a misplay, but it was a tough play.
Wasn't his fault
TLR outsmarted himself an put the worst 2B in the game in the game.

your right, he only wasted the bench
and ruined the defense
With one move, how is that even possible!
So you get a gain at center
But a major downgrade a second.
And thurston is once again ready to almost kill pujols.
only have GD today
so I can’t tell….
I’m willing to concede that Thurston is better than Schu @ 2B, but not a LOT better, otherwise he’d surely have the starting job by now.
In fact I keep hearing about how shitty Schumaker’s defensive statistics are, yet I frequently read comments in the game threads about excellent plays Schu made in the field.
Just my $.02….
you are on gameday
thus didn’t see the easy play he didn’t make.
Thus don’t have all the information to make a judgement.
skip is outstanding at turning double plays
but he’s pretty limited in range and his glove isn’t great on ground balls.
OTOH, thurston just now (in the 8th) didn’t get to a ground ball at third that barden likely would have gotten to. Grumble.
- "I went at it and didn’t slow down, so it kind of bounced off me." -Lil' Dunc
okay
in order, the st louis cardinals three best center fielders
1. colby rasmus
2. richard ankiel
3. skip schumaker
the move went schu → raz. that is an improvement
doesn't really account for the fact that we had everyone in their natural positions
and now have 2 guys out of position.
how is that more important
than the collective quality of defense
that’d be like arguing against putting raz in left over dunc
the collective quality wen't down
unless you really have faith in skip at second and Thurston at 3rd.
Sometimes they are passable, but you don’t willingly switch into it at the drop of a hat.
i don't have faith in skip
but i have as much faith in thurston as i do in barden at third.
it was just a roll of the dice. upgrade center and downgrade 2b. and it didn’t work out in our favor. at least not yet
if that's really how you feel
this whole situation is made so much better by playing Rasmus over Skip in the first place.
But TLR went with the hot hand over the sensable choice. That is somewhat forgivable, even if it didn’t work out.
He took out a guy who can't hit RH pitching very well
in an extremely high leverage situation, and replaced him with a guy who hits RH pitching much better. Then he swapped the defense around and made the OF better (colby in) and the IF worse (Schu in). I can’t see how everyone can be going apeshit over that. There’s plenty of BS tony does that is TOTALLY indefensible, for people to get upset over what (however you feel about whether it’s right or not) was a pretty defensible move.

He should never have been batting in that situation
Thurstons a decent hitter against righties, but he never had a chance against Affedlt, who is an excellent LOOGY. Most teams would have had a decent righty on the bench, but because Tony has 13 relieviers, we don’t.

St. Louis Cardinals... defying win expectancy since 2008
by vivaelpujols on May 31, 2009 6:52 PM EDT up reply actions
it's probably a function of the fact
that he’s not very good against either, but 80 points is pretty small for a platoon split. Makes sense, since contact guys are generally better suited to face same-arm pitchers.
Definitely should have taken (another) one for the team there, though the fact he was probably still feeling the first one makes it understandable that he didn’t ;)
- "I went at it and didn’t slow down, so it kind of bounced off me." -Lil' Dunc

Who's the guy who was doing the 2006 NLCS?
He pronounced everyone’s name wrong. Even the ones who I didn’ t think could possibly have their names wrong. From Yadiay Molina to Carlos BelTRAN.

Miller works for the WWL radio duing the LCS's

Yadi reminds me of the
2006 Molina (regular season). His bat has really gone silent.
The time has come for someone to put his foot down and that foot is me
