Game 49 Overflow thread

I'm too scared to watch. Please don't let us lose to Zito w/ Carp on the mound. I could handle it if it were Pineiro or Wellemeyer, but not Carp!

Yadi swings and hits a high fly ball... Endy Chavez goes back, to the track, to the wall... ITS A GUNNER!! Yadi gives St. Louis the lead in the top of the ninth!

Yes, that's very helpful - you must have been a Boy Scout

I’d never heard of an ice road though, and they didn’t see any reason to clarify anything in that ad. After MUGATU’s and gdm’s comments I googled it, and it looks pretty interesting.

I was a Boy Scout, but only very briefly - never made it past Tenderfoot.

But if they’d had an ice road trucking merit badge, I probably would have… still quit as a Tenderfoot. That shit sounds way too scary for a turkey like me. I’d rather watch it on Netflix, which apparently I can! Thanks again, Internet!!

I know Dan loves Rick Ankiel

but never in his career has Rick Ankiel ‘gotten hot and carried the lineup’.

In fact, there is 1 instance of this. 1 game against Pittsburgh in which he then got outed for HGH use the next day. Other than that, he’s just another cog in the machine.

No one carries this lineup outside Albert. In fact, in the last 5 years the only other guy I remember doing anything like that was Scott Rolen in 2006 when Albert went down with the oblique. Scott tore it up those 15 games, to the tune of something like .382 with 11 doubles.

It was actually a home run, but the wall was so scared it moved back 20 feet.

St. Louis Cardinals... defying win expectancy since 2008

by vivaelpujols on May 30, 2009 11:59 PM EDT reply actions

Actually, I heard that in order to sneak back into the MLB

Amaury Marti went back to college and disguised himself as a cacausian catcher only to appear in tonights game against Verlander. The wall did move back 20 feet but it was due to the fact that Marti hit the ball so hard the force from the baseball as it moved towards the wall manifested as a hurricane force wind pushing the wall back the said “20 feet”.

two happinesses

of all the nice things about tonight’s game, the two I like the best:
… the ‘comeback’ of sorts gives Carpenter a W, big psychological boost there.
… when Rasmus stayed in the game after pinch-hitting he went to CF, moving over Ricky-Ticky, which means I can relax a little bit of my fear that Tony will play Ankiel as the CF when Rasmus is also in the game.

Just got home from the game.

Lots of fun. Great to see so many cards fans in one place. I commented during batting practice that it looked like Busch Stadium. My section was, thankfully, mostly cardinal fans.

Oh, and rotowire reports back to back to back home runs by Pujols during batting practice. That is not true. It was back to back to back to back to back to back. He had five pitches and knocked them all out for home runs.

During his first few times up at bp he was getting under the ball, knocking it into the net. Then I saw him go over and talk to Hal MCrae and during the conversation he pointed to his wrist and talked a bit more. Then next time up, five home runs.

Some other notes, Duncan still looks like a kid excited to be on the field, Rasmus signed autographs for all fans in the area (giants staff stopped me from climbing a rail to get to him) and that Pujols guy sure can hit.

FSN Midwest Radar Guns

Is it just me, or do there radar guns seem off? It said that Carp’s fastball was 90. WTF? On the highlights using FSN San Francisco, It said he was throwing 94. Both him and Franklin get there fastballs 93-94 mph, but the FSN Midwest radar shows them throwing 90 for some reason.

by strikeout18 on May 31, 2009 12:49 PM EDT reply actions

I watched the FSN feed,

And I could’ve sworn that it had Carp registering at 94 several times, in between 91 and 94 with the fastball. But I could be easily be mistaken.

If it is showing lower speeds, maybe it’s an ingenious plot to get other teams and fans to misunderstimate the velocity of our pitchers?
