First OF start for Schu

I kinda like duncan batting second
and schu batting 9th, he might have some chances to knock in some runs there too. albeit, ryan is not a better leadoff hitter probably.

alright, just got done with a beautiful meatball and orzo lunch
hopefully i don’t need a nap midway through this game
Orzo
Is like rice sized pasta
Yep, every Hall of Famer did something unique. Mike Schmidt played with his hat sideways. Roberto Clemente chewed other people's fingernails. Tris Speaker was Japanese. Lou Boudreau rode a dolphin into the batter's box. Nap Lajoie would only use John Wilkes Booth's dismembered leg as a bat. And he corked it. Johnny Mize was from the future. - FJM
It's a very small, round pasta, used much like rice.

what?
you don’t like starting 4 middle infielders and the fat clone of one?
What other options do you have?
Glaus is out. Luddy out. Ankiel hurt. K. Greene not hitting. Freese hurt.
"Stats are for losers," Muschamp said after last week's victory. "I like winning games."
yeah
so if you can’t really do anything about it… you can always crack a joke
Greene to the DL?
Looks like they are thinking it
"People call me El Hombre," Pujols said. "But only Stan is the Man."
I was thinking that they might send Khalil to the DL

ditto here
I was disappointed to see T. Greene called down. If anything, I thought Thurston or K. Greene should have been sent down.
Welcome to Baseball Heaven.
You can't
just send Thurston and K. Greene to the minors.
"If I prepare myself, my stuff is good and I'm going to get outs. That is a fact." - Chris Carpenter
need to send barden over thursty
and i dont think a minors stint is gonna help k greenes head
can we send him a Polyphonic Spree album?
they always make me feel better
by Expatcardfan on May 27, 2009 1:24 PM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
Doesn't matter
because K. Greene cannot be sent to the minors unless he clears waivers or is doing a rehab assignment. Thurston has to clear waivers, too.
"If I prepare myself, my stuff is good and I'm going to get outs. That is a fact." - Chris Carpenter
But actually seeing a psychiatrist...
could allow K. Greene to find out just what is wrong; mental issues are largely caused by chemical imbalances in the brain. Medication might be part of the answer.
A DL stint for psychiatric treatment would be worth the try, IMO…

been to that already
plus US-Mex (more for each not this weekend, but next)
i'd rather go to 1 mls game than 1 premiership game
but i can go to a couple seasons for the amount of money it would take to go to one premiership game… so i win big time

can't really follow soccer
I think my problem with Soccer/Football or whatever it is called is that it never really stops, it is just a continous stream of action, which at times leaves newcomers just lost as to what is going on, fun action sometimes but If you don’t understand it there is little chance to grasp what is happening.
"People call me El Hombre," Pujols said. "But only Stan is the Man."
i find soccer really relaxing to watch, for some reason
no commercials, lots of green on the field, i can just zone out and watch for a few hours pretty easy. and i have no idea who any of those guys are
by Expatcardfan on May 27, 2009 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions
I didn't enjoy it much
until I saw some matches live in England with real soccer fans. It’s great to have someone with love for the game explaining the nuances.
My girlfriend hated baseball until I explained the different pitches and such and now she’s got things to actually look for when she watches.
i went to my first MLS matches with DC last year
with some season ticket holders, and honestly, its one of the most fun sporting experiences i can think of. but agreed, you have to watch with people who know what’s going on, and can explain some things to you

rfk has bouncing stands along the sidelines
those guys are a lot of fun… you should head up to chicago and do a game with section 8 sometime… those guys are also a lot of fun
i've been to a ton of them
chicago, kc, columbus, dallas, milwaukee (open cup), peoria (open cup)
part of being a fan is following the team… nothing like a road game
when did i say i didnt like national team games?
i have my josey altidore USA jersey on right now
then why no love for mls?
pretty much all of them cut their teeth there
i dont hate the MLS...i just like watching the premiership
i do like D.C. United but the MLS gets old because the lack of talent i see at times just makes me sick
i like the competitiveness of the league
anyone can win… not 3 teams, anyone
i see a bigger problem with buying old talent instead of developing young, new talent… most leagues and teams the world over are about developing talent… only a few teams can be the yankees of their respective leagues
i see to many has beens in the MLS
problem is that when people like jozy and freddy get good they move across seas we need someone to stay dedicated, even lando is talkin about leavin the US
that's not a problem
that’s the way the game is done
then every league/team in the world sucks
becaus everyone does it
sends their players to the Premiership? no actually they dont look at AC Inter Real madrid and Barca
Rangers Celtic Bayern munich
everyone sells
everyone buys
players don’t stay with teams or leagues (well, unless you are english or mexican… their players are strangely very insular)
well i have enjoyed our banter but i gotta get offa here and vacuum the floor before the wife gets home or i'm gonna be introuble
peace Go Barca

I would think it could be more aptly characterized
as a continuous stream of inaciton, or at least rather inconsequential action. Team passes it around, dribbles, gets upfield….other team takes the ball away, passes it, dribbles, gets upfield, other team takes it away and so on for what seems like forever…nobody scores (at least not when I’m watching). I'm probably selfish, but
I wish Wellemeyer was a bit more judicious with his pitches. 43 through three innings is still a bit high. Particularly with only one hit and no runs…
Waino had 61 last night iirc
and he still went pretty far, welle just needs to settle in and have some quick innings to make up for it.
"People call me El Hombre," Pujols said. "But only Stan is the Man."
43 pitches through 3 isnt that many at all....
just 4.8 pitches per out, and that doesnt count hits or walks
Mang Says...
"There is no "I" in team, or in B g Mac Land, either."
If he is pitching to contact
He can throw fewer pitches. But again, I said I was selfish. Would just like to see Wellemeyer make it throw seven innings.
4.8x3x7 = 101
If he keeps up the pace, you get your wish

So, that game earlier this year where Thurston got thrown out at 3rd for the 1st out of an inning
I defended him, maybe to a fault, calling it “aggressive baserunning.” I’ve now changed my position. He’s a stupid baserunner.

Can't watch the game
but does it look like Albert’s stance is not as low and crouched as it was in April when he was punishing the ball? Thats what it looked like to me last time I watched. I don’t know if that is entirely his problem—his timing seems way off too—but it is the thing that sticks out to me.
According to Gameday his May OPS is 1.032
I wouldn’t be surprised if that is his worst month, but my god that is ridiculous.

still looking for more:
in a short June 2006 (10 games) he had a .715 OPS
May 2002 .804 OPS, most months were under 1.000
July 2001 it was .793, his lowest full month that I found
"People call me El Hombre," Pujols said. "But only Stan is the Man."
Wow - either I have a terrible memory, or what I read was complete crap
It doesn’t feel like he’s had an OPS of 1.032 this month, but clearly it’s a long way from his worst….

I have been clamoring for Wallace as well but I read the piece over at FR today and now I think I may be wrong.
Speaking of being wrong I also would like to retract my disinterest in Derosa. It looks like he would be a good fit for us as long as we don’t have to give up too much. Let’s hope Mo can get him soon.

Don't know if the Royals got him on the trading block
I know the Marlins are shopping Cantu, of course DeRosa is a huge name out there. Also got Beltre and Atkins.
I second that
No real reason, but not a fan.
Maybe it's
because he’s had one monster season, 2 decent seasons, and a bunch of .700 OPS seasons. His OPS is .577 for 2009. His 2009 WAR is 0.3.

espn doesn't have cameras there
they are picking up fifa’s feed
which would cause a delay
if ESPN has to receive a feed then rebroadcast it while some of the other tvs are getting it from a channel other than ESPN the delay is most likely being caused by the rebroadcaster
"People call me El Hombre," Pujols said. "But only Stan is the Man."
feed yes
but lets say it is on two channels, ESPN receives FIFA and Channel B receives FIFA, ESPN then has to send it back out and might add 2 seconds of delay while Channel B adds 4, that means there is a 2 second difference in the what the viewers see

Quick Question
I was listening to the game on the radio at lunch. How bad was Go-Go-Joe’s go-go-going for a triple? Rooney said he was cut down by four feet.

I've said it once and I'll say it again
Joe Thurston is a horrendous baserunner. It’s inexcusable. That’s four or five patently horrible baserunning blunders by him this season.
"I'm gonna throw the nastiest curveball I have ever thrown...if he hits it, I'll tip my cap, but if not we're going to the Series."
--Adam Wainwright on the final pitch of the 2006 NLCS
Not to mention him nearly running down Rasmus in the OF.
"Rasmus doesn't hit lefties. Instead he bashes them over the head with their own bleeding arm he just raced to the mound to rip off before the ball arrives to the plate. He then smashes that baseball with the pitchers bloody arm over the wall because he does not hit lefites he bashes them." Ted Lilly

I do
Rasmus was calling him off (even if he wasn’t yelling loudly enough or whatever) and Thurston has to know that’s the CF’s ball. TLR is partly to blame, however, for putting Thurston in the OF to begin with.

Yeah, but
Welley was only at 88 pitches, and Fielder (two batters earlier) is a lefty. Either bring in the lefty at the beginning of the inning or let Welley finish the inning, IMO. Unless TLR says “Well, Catalanotto is 2-2 off Welley, that must mean he always gets a hit off of him, we can’t let him pitch to him.”

"I'm gonna throw the nastiest curveball I have ever thrown...if he hits it, I'll tip my cap, but if not we're going to the Series."
