then again
hit and run against a guy who had thrown 8 straight balls (w/2 swinging strikes on balls OOZ) isn’t a great choice.
- "I went at it and didn’t slow down, so it kind of bounced off me." -Lil' Dunc
in all fairness
he didnt get tagged by the 2b.
C'mon you Redbirds, lets prove em' wrong, again!

Really?
Guy who has (now) walked two straight, and we force a guy to swing on a random pitch? I just don’t see any value.
most people pitch around pujols
so it’s kinda hard to say he’s not throwing well
it's a gamble
but we’re up four runs, might as well keep the pressure on the defense. I like the call, it just didn’t work out….
why do it when a guy can not find the strike zone
I can't believe i gave up a homerun to that punch and judy hitter-major league 2
it's not a good reason
when the pitcher isn’t throwing strikes anyway. and the risk almost never works. the odds of a wild pitchers throwing a pitch yadi can’t do anything w/ are greater than the odds of Yadi what would’ve been a double-play minus a hit and run. it’s bad gamble almost every single time. i hate the hit and run
flip side
a pitch that misses is tough to make contact with, but that also means there’s a chance that it’ll handcuff the catcher.
true true
but w/ a wild pitcher you could just get away w/ a straight steal perhaps. I don’t like the call but a pitch like that is one albert would usually steal on successfully. He didn’t seem to get a good jump
it certainly makes it worse
and to play devil’s advocate to my own argument, he did call it w/ the 2 players that most would say are the most fundamentally sound on the team. Still, I just have my issues w/ the hit and run 90% anyway :)
PS—discussions like these are why this site is great. On the P-D boards this would be a flamefest by now. I love the intelligent chat I get whenever I get a chance to check in on a game thread
Its either that
or Dunc and Stav for Peavy or other ridiculous trade proposals

i wouldn't dare give up that much for Peavy

yeah i never posted there but i used to go there for news
once i found that site i quickly gave up on the P-D boards. Goold is worth reading though.
i know albert has a bunch of steals this year
but it’s still a gamble i don’t like. the guy was wild anyway! albert would be on 2nd w/ the walk :(
yeah, hopefully those'll be more frequent with ludwick back in a few days
Cardwash Definition: Birds on the Nat.
OHHH YEAHHHH!!!!!!!

can they not designate him
hoping hed accept to get ABs?
I can't believe i gave up a homerun to that punch and judy hitter-major league 2
greene would not accept that, he'd be a free agent and get picked up by a team, with the cards getting the 6.5 million bill

being patience with KBot is exactly the wrong thing to do. they should shut him down & get him some help before he really hurts himself.

short turn around for a day game tomorrow…not sure if that matters since the ‘pen has had a ton of rest the last week or so. I think i’d have him start the 7th w/ a short leash. Welle tomorrow too which mean the pen might be needed more
My thought is that he's only at 95
Let him at least try to have another quick (10-15 pitch) inning. If he can, it saves the bullpen a bit in case we need it in the coming days. If not, you’re not pushing him too hard.

Yeah, me too
I still have a little trouble with the earned/unearned rules, but I think you’re supposed to assume that the out was made or the extra base wasn’t taken, then make a judgment about whether the run would have scored under those conditions. In this case, even without Yadi’s throwing error it would have been bases loaded when Fielder batted, so the run should be earned.

i had to put up with the same thing when I posted Ankiel hitting the wall
Both were a little out of line, some people are sensitive. Punchin judy’s.
dude
this is not an obscure topic. This has been kicked around a bunch. If you’re not up to date on a sore subject and you just start talking about it, don’t be surprised when the rest of the board reacts negatively.
Plus you had impeccable timing, posting right after another poster insulted Greene.
thats why i posted it cause everyone freaked out on the guy who posted
and i didn’t know wtf was goin on
well i figured a board full of cardinal "fans" would be able to help a fellow friend out
but i guess not, sorry for bein busy man, i know i know i’m a dick for studyin for finals man i’ll try and stop
true
but this one was also strangely enjoying seeing boog fail

well-reasoned criticism is always welcome. some of us will disagree with it and rush to defend the home team, but the community almost always benefits from a critical point of view. however, nobody benefits from infantile ravings

public apology
I apologize for my insensitive comments about Mr. Greene and his struggles. I know that he is having serious issues and I wish him the best.

LOL, was there a press conference to go with this post?
No need for apologies, some people are sensitive. Your apology is noted.
Hey now, I didnt agree with calling him psycho
But I certainly didn’t mind it. He has issues, its well-known.
It was likely a joke in poor taste
that was poorly received… and there’s an apology all is right in the world.
There's a big motherfucking gap between...
…psychosis/psychopathy and struggling with anxiety. Huge.
Labeling someone the former when they are the latter is cruel and ignorant, not funny.
I agree there, I dont know why you guys are replying to me
I dont agree with calling him that, but it didnt make me as mad as you guys.
I don't think we were mad at you
but we love this place (you probably do too), we just don’t want it to end up with the endless negativity and asshats over at the Post Dispatch boards

Ive never been there, but I hear ya....

it has nothing to do with sensitivity
it is just showing a little class

It's civility
not sensitivity.

FYI
The comment was removed. 10 flags and blazing red, I hope there’s no doubt that those kinds of remarks aren’t going to be welcomed here.
For the other commenters — flagging is the appropriate response. Personally, I very pleased to see that no flamewar erupted; just a modest chastisement that seemed appropriate for the situation. When things get flagged, they get looked into so be assured that those little clicks aren’t for naught.

Greinke just pitched a complete game and allowed 1 run
and his ERA ROSE from 0.82 to 0.84. He’s got two complete game wins against Detroit this year, but in this one he slacked off and allowed a run.

Man...
they just showed the end of the Padres/D-backs game on MLB Network, and I’ve never heard a broadcaster sound like a fan to the level that the Padres’ color analyst just did. A little odd…

I guess I just take him for granted. And he’s really worse, considering a portion of White Sox games are national telecasts on WGN…

I might be in the minority
but I love Hawk. of course I also like the sox. Hard to beat: the Big Hurt, One-dog, Robin, Black-Jack, Ozzie Guiellen(sp?) the player, Wilson Alvarez, ect…

Things we learned today
-Troy Glaus has less than a 49% chance of playing for the Cardinals ever again.
- Kyle Lohse will miss his start Friday because of arm weakness from the HBP.
- Khalil Greene’s anxiety issues were displayed on National Television.
- Some blog somewhere hates Dave Duncan.
by Hardcore Legend on May 27, 2009 2:44 AM EDT reply actions
Somehow I missed the news on Lohse...
I must have missed it from Dan or Al, because the P-D has nothing about it…
V, b.
arm weakness from a HBP
why am I skeptical of this description?
Future Redbirds - tracking Cardinal prospects for Cardinal Nation
Don't remember the HBP too much
but I thought it got his pitching hand or at least his pitching arm. I know I have had tense muscles after being hit in the arm so I am assuming that his arm is just really sore and tight and anything he does irritates it. doubt it is a long term concern but it is something to watch out for over the next week and a half
"People call me El Hombre," Pujols said. "But only Stan is the Man."
he got drilled in the right forearm with a fastball
sounds normal that he would still be feeling too much soreness to pitch after only a couple of days.
by Willie McGee's Twin on May 27, 2009 12:06 PM EDT up reply actions
Ah, it could be legitimate
If your arm is bruised, you can’t throw full strength. I dropped a pan of bacon appetizers the other day ‘cause my jammed finger couldn’t hold up. You don’t Lohse dropping bacon, do you?
From the AP recap of last night's game, Wainwright talking about his hitting:
"I’m still not even hitting the Mendoza line," said Wainwright, who admitted he’d choose not to hit if he could. "But, I’m seeing the ball better."
I was surprised to read that part about him choosing not to hit if he could, and I wonder if some comment he made was misinterpreted. I was always under the impression that he enjoys hitting and takes pride in being quite good at it by pitcher standards. (God knows he pinch hits enough for a pitcher….)
