Game 46 Open Thread: Cardinals at Brewers
St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers, May 26, 2009 8:05 PM EDT

| Wainwright | Suppan |
| 4-2, 3.41 | 3-3, 4.71 |
Fool them once, shame on Suppan. Fool them twice, I will be convinced that Chris Carpenter has tutored both starters on recapturing their old form, in some pitcher-centric variation on The Most Dangerous Game that ends with him out-dueling them both on a far-flung Pacific island.
Robo-flow thread, say, an hour and a half from now. Go Cardinals.

Schu 2B
Duncan LF

Molina C
Raz CF
Greene, K. SS
Stavi RF
Waino P
Thursty 3B
I’m liking Greene in the line up hes .385/.385/.769/1.154(granted small sample size) against Soup
"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring" -Rogers Hornsby
really interesting lineup. i like it!
the truth can't hurt you, it's just like the dark/ it scares you witless, but in time you see things clear and stark -- macmanus
I think I live everything about the lineup
except Thurston over Barden….Duncan ain’t been doing jack in the 4 hole, not that Molina has either but Molina tends to be good w/ RISP. Pujols protecting Duncan sounds better than Duncan “protecting” Pujols….
Hopefully between Rasmus, Greene, and Stav somebody can figure Soup out tonight…..in fact I’d like to see them score in the top of the 1st to set the tone for the rest of the series….while I’m at it perhaps I can get a pony unicorn too….
I dont know
why TLR has a man love for Thursty, his defense isn’t anything, his Bat isnt special, The only thing he has going for him is grit and speed
"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring" -Rogers Hornsby
He hits from the left side... that's about it, IMO.

part of it is
that Barden hasn’t exactly been tearing it up either. I think he’s got a better bat and he sure as hell fields the position better (and actually has the arm to play 3rd) but there you go. I suspect if Barden was getting starts consistently over Thurston that Slur It’s bat would be more consistent as well.
this is a cool lineup
the Thursty/Barden thing is about the only point of contention, i think

Nice lineup
Our best 5 hitters are batting 1-5 and Pujols should have some guys on base for him when he bats.

Take 'im the other way, boys!
(The offensive equivalent of THROW MORE SINKERS!)
Raz and C-Dunc have both looked pull-happy lately….
"In this game, don't nobody know nuthin' about nuthin'." -- attributed to Lawrence Peter "Yogi" Berra
I think Raz is just pressing
hopefully he’ll snap out of it, I liked plate discipline Raz not pull happy Raz
"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring" -Rogers Hornsby
When C-Dunc's going good,
he lays off the slop on the outside corner… the idea being if you try to go the other way, you keep your head on the ball longer.

According to MLB...
Pujols’ total of 842,058 votes is about 167,000 more than anyone else has yet tallied in the league, and is nearly double the number recorded by the first-base runner-up, Milwaukee’s Cecil Fielder (427,284).
Pujols is so good…his popularity transcends time itself. (Sorry if this was covered in an earlier thread. I’m just getting off work.)

For his next feat
Now that Albert has left Cecil Fielder in the dust on the All-Star ballots, he plans to change his position to 3rd base and eclipse Ed Spezio’s name on the lineup for the midsummer classic.

in all honesty, and all the bashing
the guy was a +hitter in college, and is starting to get some major league ABs. pretty sure he’ll never be Manny Ramirez out there, but who is. but he could easily be Mike Greenwell, if he tops out.

that was a pretty damn good AB he had
watched the first one for a strike, got fooled on the second pitch, watched three balls go by, fouled off a slider, and then turned on a fastball inside.
i'm not going to argue that he's a legit major leaguer
but in the age of the 40 man roster, maybe he’s a serviceable stopgap? i’d feel better if he could field.

he's been knocking in runs
at a time when basically nobody else on the team is, so I’d say we’ve got a pretty good answer on the “serviceable stopgap” question.

Is Stav's arm really that weak?
Honest question
for the most part
catchers throw from the ear like a qb
yeah, but
Shawan Dunston had a better arm than Dwight Gooden, Rick Ankiel and Colby Rasmus supposedly thew in the low to mid 90’s when they were in high school, and Motte came up as a catcher, and only lately was it decided he could pitch. by some sort of transient logic, Stav should have a better arm than Mike Piazza.

the pitching will regress a little bit
we’re not going to get 7 IP/1 R out of all five starters every time out….but we’ve got a very solid 1-4 and our bullpen’s been a strength so far.
It’s when the offense regresses back to anything resembling average (LIKE TONIGHT) that we’re gonna look hella tough….
What im saying
is everyone is enjoying the game, we’re finally hitting and waino is pitching pretty well, just enjoy the show of winning

3.2IP 57 pitches/39 strikes
7 H, 5 R all earned, 1 BB, 2K, and three freaking homers
the quick hook is a little goofy although Soup looked really ugly pitching to Thurston and especially to Skip….I think the Wainwright homer got to him, which is funny cause Soup is usually so laid back and relaxed.
