Ryan, Stav, Barden and T. Greene?

You sure we couldn’t bat ADAM higher in the order than 8th?

riddle me this, batman.

when the pitcher’s slot comes up late in the game, and either marshall is still in or they put a loogy in to face thurston.

who is going to pinch hit against the leftie? wainwright would probably hit for himself. say there’s a reliever in. who hits?

dunc? skip? larue? wellemeyer? khalil?

The sad thing is...

I’d probably bet real, non-internet money that this isn’t the last time we see Thurston in the outfield. Tony: you do know what happened on Adam’s last start, right? He pitched awesome-tastically and we lost due to lack of offense. I’m just saying. You do remember, right? Right?

OK, rant over, Go Cards!

by mattybobo on May 21, 2009 8:04 PM EDT reply actions

Its a sad day when

Your big bat in Left Field is Joe Thurston. Anyone know how much longer until Ludwick makes his return?

by JWO on May 21, 2009 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions

seriously

We’re going for a big momentum type of win/sweep here, and this is the lineup we have?

by Expatcardfan on May 21, 2009 8:06 PM EDT reply actions

only issue I have is

Thurston over Duncan. But does lil dunc have a hit against a lefty this month?

by Evilfrog on May 21, 2009 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions

or

sent Stav down instead

C'mon you Redbirds, lets prove em' wrong, again!

by yer dog first on May 21, 2009 8:11 PM EDT up reply actions

from your comment above

I was using the “I guess they expected Ankiel to be back today” as a basis for my statement. As in, they expected Ank back, so they should have sent Fat Miles down and retained Shane.

C'mon you Redbirds, lets prove em' wrong, again!

by yer dog first on May 21, 2009 8:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Honestly

They should have sent down a pitcher when Carp came back instead of Shane. And sent down an outfielder when ankiel came back. Having 4 outfielders is fine when it’s Ankiel, Rasmus, Ludwick and Duncan. But when it’s Rasmu, Duncan Stavinoha and Robertson it’s not.

Having only 3 outfilers Rasmus, Duncan, and Stavinoha is only okay for 1 game.

by Evilfrog on May 21, 2009 8:22 PM EDT up reply actions

This feels like the series "letdown game"

They’ve won the first two and Carp is looking healthy. I have a sneaky suspicion the Cubs are going to hang a bunch of runs on our relievers tonight. But maybe this where things start breaking well for us.

by JWO on May 21, 2009 8:08 PM EDT reply actions

Seriously.

My first reaction was that the Cards had locked up the division with last night’s win. This is the prototypical expanded roster lineup.

Sawasdee from Bangkok. Good start, nine-pitch inning - nine strikes 1,2,3

Even with this line up we have a chance if Waino can match this line for eight more innings.

Boston is a great town to be single in -

If it’’s a dream job, go for it.

Boston is the easiest town to get around in via public trans (even easier than DC or NYC). I took the train everywhere. In fact, parking is very expensive (like $175/mo for a parking spot unless you’ve got street parking – which is its own nightmare).

by Willie McGee's Twin on May 21, 2009 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions

i hate street parking

in my first place here, there were a couple of high rises on every block. which meant i had to park 6-7 blocks away sometimes. and remember to move my car for street cleaning days. i hated that.

Wainer's slider looks tight tonight

interesting aside – Fangraphs have just added a “runs per pitch” stat, which shows how many runs per 100 pitches each individual pitch of a pitcher generates (OK, I didn’t explain that well…). I’d have thought that the curve would be Adam’s best pitch but, looking today, his slider was well ahead, in terms of its positive value.

Because chicks dig the intentional base on balls.

by Felonius_Monk on May 21, 2009 8:32 PM EDT reply actions

actually cancel that

it’s “pitch-type linear weights”, and his curve is slightly ahead of the slider, but both are excellent pitches (and well ahead of his FB, which is merely average).
