Maybe Duncan could be the new Papi?
I can't even count how many people have suggested on this site that Chris Duncan would be an ideal DH for an AL team without one. Well here we are in May and David Ortiz is still looking for homerun #1. The Red Sox fans don't strike me as the types who are willing to keep players on the field based on what they did a few years ago. I think that even with all of the injuries to our everyday lineup our biggest need is still pitching. I was at the Sunday game against the Brewers and watched Welley pitch like a high schooler. I dont know how long we can afford to march him out there the way he's pitching this year. He's looking an awful lot like a mid-reliever that the Cubs fired a couple of years ago. And even if he was pitching better, Joel Piniero seems to have reverted to his old inconsistent ways after a 4-0 start. --I think I got off track--. Anyway, now may be the time for us to explore a trade with the Sox for some mound help. I dont exactly know who we should ask for, but I'm sure that the scouting dept. would have some ideas. I also saw a guy named NeftaliPerez ( I think ) who pitches for the Oklohoma City Redhawks this last week who I would love to see in the Cards organization. Unless the day I saw him was a complete fluke, I'm stunned that he's not in the Rangers rotation yet. He hit 98 several times with nasty offspeed pitches. The only mistake he made was a high slider that wound up in the cheap seats. I think Duncan may be the trading chip that we can afford to depart with most.

Wouldn't they want someone who hits Home Runs?
I like Duncan, but he had one good month where he hit a whopping 3 home runs, the same as Yadi and Barden. And this month he’s been terrible.
really?
he’s been terrible?

Well
His is only 10 for 54 this month and getting on base at a clip of .241.
His power won’t come back until next season at the earliest. And if the Sox want to see Papi through this entire season before deciding to give up on him, then they really don’t have much use for Dunc right now. And with the way he’s currently playing, he wouldn’t bring us anything that would give us an immediate return.
Patiently awaiting the day Colby Rasmus does this: .275/.381/.551/.932, 29HR, in St. Louis...and I'm wanting an Allen Craig call-up!

They'll hang on to Ortiz
at least for this year. And to be honest, I think he’ll break out of it to the point where he’s at least worth having on their roster — maybe not as high of totals as before but still decent. But with that said, ANOTHER AL team probably could use a guy like Duncan. I just don’t think he’d be a big improvement for the Red Sox THIS year.
On with the (good) youth movement!
Duncan
is going to need at least a year post-neck surgery to fully regain his power. Spine surgery is a bitch.
Classic underachiever.

Good thing the fans have no imput on what happens. Last year, Papi put up a .372 wOBA, and that was after a terribe, terrible first month. I doubt the Red Sox would trade him away after a couple of bad months.

Neftali Perez
Is one of the best pitching prospects in baseball. He’ll probably be up in the Rangers rotation soon enough. It would probably take Colby Rasmus to get him, so no, you’re not going to see him in the Cards’ organisation any time soon.
Because chicks dig the intentional base on balls.
Ya sorry
I was confused by the original post. Anyhow, I note he’s struggling a bit with walks since moving up to AAA so it might be next year before we seeing, depending on Texas’ rotation struggles, ability to contend and policy on delaying arbitration…

As for Duncan
I actually kind of slightly disagree with the other posters – he’s been a career .360 wOBA hitter, including his lengthy periods of injury, and has looked OK this year. I think he’s been a bit unlucky on HR/FB too. He’s probably a better hitter than Papi at this point. However, I just don’t see them trading anything significant for what might be a marginal upgrade (and possibly not even a long-term one if Ortiz ever recovers his pop) at DH, when they already have a LF (Bay) and a couple of 1B/DH types (Youkilis is the starting 1B, he can’t move to 3B whilst Lowell’s still there, and they have Lars Anderson, who is a decent 1B prospect who might make it to the show in 2010, waiting in the wings).
I could only really see them giving up a relief pitcher or a less-than-stellar prospect, or perhaps someone like Julio Lugo (who is expensive and not much better than any of our current SS options) for Duncan. I don’t think we’re getting Masterson or Bucholz for a relatively short-term DH rental who probably isn’t even a league average DH at this point in his career.

Exactly
The Red Sox may have tons of depth at SP, but they aren’t willing to trade it away unless it’s a grand improvement. (Catcher) They probably aren’t going to make any trades this year and will just stick with what they have.
My avatar is 3 years into the future for sure...
i'm sure the sawx would be super-interested in wallace.
they could use him to split the 1b/3b/dh duties among lowell, youk, and wallace as lowell ages and becomes more of a defensive liability.
but i think if we want in on their young pitching, wallace would be the piece that gets it done.

Should've traded Dunc two years ago
when we had the chance. I didn’t really care for him being re-signed this past offseason because I didn’t want to see any more bad fielding (hence the 1B-only/DH-only talk) or repeats of last season. Really, I thought the only reason they resigned Dunc was b/c he was DD’s kid.
Welcome to Baseball Heaven.
or because he has the potential to be an outstanding hitter?
Also, while he may be the uggliest left fielder in baseball, his defense is “only” about -10 runs, which isn’t as bat some others like Dunn, Abreu and Ibanez.
