Game 38 Open Thread: Brewers at Cardinals

Milwaukee Brewers at St. Louis Cardinals, May 18, 2009 8:15 PM EDT

Looper and Lohse today in the makeup game--if you're reading this abbreviated game thread, it's because I'm in the process of moving out of my apartment and avoiding speeding tickets all along US 54.

Here's hoping Rasmus gets that homer back tonight.

Rickie Weeks is done

Mr. Weeks was starting to show off his talent, and it sounds like he’s done now with that wrist injury he suffered the other night. LINKY .

Damn shame.

i was sooo sure the Cat was going to ask him if he kicked it because it’s a jack russell mix & it barks a lot. that would have been epic.

New VEB T-Shirt Ideas?

I am thinking of making a new shirt design. The current one is awfully ugly (no offense). The problem is that I can’t use any trademarked Cardinal logo’s. All I got so far is getting a Red and White baseball cut t-shirt with Viva El Birdos on the back with the numbers 67.

It's nothing to have a meltdown over. It is what it is

We are missing our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th best sources of power, three of our starting pitchers regressed heavily back to the mean, and we have no production (nor should we expect any) from any infielder to Albert’s right.

and is only behind Ludwick and Pujols, are top 2 sources of power, in Slugging. In ISO, he has been 3rd in 2009, 3rd in 2007, and 2nd in 2006. He was obviously very low last year.

I’d like to see TLR stay on for as long as possible, flaws and all. Usually he gets better pitching than this, at least….and lo and behold, Wainwright threw 7 IP 1R the other day, we just got shutout.

LaRussa is going to go at some point

wouldn’t it make sense to have a new manager for 2 seasons of Pujols in St. Louis to see if he can have the same relationship with that man?

by Hardcore Legend on May 18, 2009 10:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree

With both posts. Larussa won’t coach the entire time Pujols plays.

Is Larussa the only coach he will play for? Will he play for Oquendo? Will he be consulted when a new coach is appointed?

I don’t believe the organization would bring in some random hack. They know they have the resources to be a contender.

I don’t believe the organization would bring in some random hack.

I’d like to agree to that but the way things have been done there recently (how’s that Ballpark Village coming?) I can’t say I’m certain I agree….

The cost

between coach a and coach b is a lot less than financing a commercial center and financing a grass field with a softball diamond.

I can’t see relating a multi multi million dollar establishment to a difference of maybe a couple million for a coach/staff.

I can't predict the future

but if you were Pujols would you stay in this environment with a new coach?

Now, everybody thinks the heir apparent is Oquendo, and I don’t know how Pujols would feel about Oquendo running the team. It’s not guaranteed to be Oquendo either, and Oquendo’s not guaranteed to be a successful manager.

I just think Pujols wants to be on a competitive team and if we can’t provide him with that, he should leave and get the payday that’s coming to him.

Maybe I'm just projecting my frustration...

but I have a hard time seeing the Brewers sustaining this over the long run. They’re hot right now, but the rotation is still not anything impressive, and the defense isn’t either. They can hit, but I still think the Cubs and maybe the Reds are better teams.

by LukeMP1186 on May 18, 2009 10:31 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The Brewers aren't really this good,

and the Cardinals aren’t really this bad. They’re hot while we’re ice cold. The way of the game sometimes, but damn if it isn’t frustrating

I knew Rasmus was gonna go bomb after i turned the game off to follow on gameday...

"I remember once talking to one guy on the Cardinals and asking him what Pujols was like as a teammate. He said something that’s really special, if you think about it. He said: "Albert is so good that you feel like you let him down when you screw up." I thought that had to be the ultimate line that could ever be said about a ballplayer. I build my baseball team around that ballplayer."

I'm no Braun fan

But anytime Al spouts one of these get-off-my-lawn-you-kids rants it makes me mad. It gets worse when he criticizes a guy for diving when they may or may not have needed to when the Cardinals CFer from 2000-7 was one James Edmonds.

Oh, a Skippy bomb…nice.

You're kidding, right?

Don’t get me wrong, I loved watching the guy do great things for the Cardinals. But all the unnecessary basket catches and dives, skips down the line, staredowns, and unnecessary stumbles around the batters box on pitches that were maybe inside got on my nerves.

Our players are just as bad as anyone’s, we just don’t care because they’re our guys.

On another note...

…The Braun hate is getting old. Beaning a guy for diving for a ball he may or may not have needed to? Jim Edmonds deserved to get hit 15+ times for that per season. Staring down home runs? Well shit Pujols, despite sprinting around the bases, does that damn near every time. Once again, Edmonds bat flipped every bomb and hopped down the line. If Braun was a Cardinal, no one would say a damn thing.
