I hope Wellemeyer was able to successfully navigate those first 2 innings.

We can blame the pitching
but really, if the offense is going to get shut out every night it’s all moot anyways.
This lineup is so fking pathetic it’s unbearable. Would easily be the wost in the league w/o Pujols.
most teams would be unbearable offensively
with two starting outfielders and a third baseman disabled. The team could manage it better—Ryan, for one thing needs to be nowhere near this offense—but you have to at least consider the fact that they’re having to manage something in the first place.
the circumstances aren't really important.
it doesn’t make this team any more fun to watch right now thinking of all the people on the DL.
Just don't hit into a DP Stav

something to cheer about, finally….I think Parra is just gassed at this point…..21 pitches to Pujols/Molina/Stavi so far this inning…..

hopefully we can actually take the lead into the 9th and not have to face Hoff
That's weird - Colby's RBI fielder's choice caused our chances to go down
Not sure how to embed the pic, but here’s the link. I’d think the run would be worth more than the out in terms of win probability here….

I mean seriously
everybody can tell that Parra is completely out of gas, why go up there swinging until you have two called strikes?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Boyer in
Barden stays in the game….I thought if you used a pinch hitter there had to be a defensive rearrangement too…..
I'm hoping Thurston is finally in the Doghouse
He is the dumbest player I’ve seen in a while, he has a terrible approach to base running and hitting. But he’s gritty so that makes up for it.
I can handle bad, it’s not like Barden isn’t loaded with talent, but he actually uses is head.
We've given up 5 hits this series
and we have a very real possibility of losing both games so far, how is that even possible???

It's really annoying that they DLed Ludwick,
I would rather they just send down a MIFer if they want to call up Stavi. I bet Ludwick was healthy enough to Pinch hit today in place of Thurston.
Hell even if he’s not healthy for 14 days, I would rather have 1 extra day of Ludwick than 14 days of a shitty MIFer or Brad Thompson.
Even when he was healthy TLR would use Ryan over him

Ryan plays above average defense and a good position to do so
so the fact that he doesn’t have a bat is somewhat forgivable.
and it wouldn't be a problem
if the team didn’t have so many other guys who are also all-glove no-hit MIFs….especially since some of those guys don’t even have such great gloves….
well the worst part about Robinson is he's a Right fielder, an offensive position
and he’s going to OPS .600-650
that's awful
I thought OF depth was supposed to be one of our strengths….I can’t understand how we’re supposed to compete with both him and Stav on the team….
gotta wait for the injuries to heal.
I really don’t understand how Ank has been out so long with what I thought was soreness.
It annoys me that a team like the Brewers that does nothing but swings for the fences will be at the top of the division.
It’s such a lame way to set up a baseball team.

Can someone tell me off the top of their head...
when we last hit a HR with runners on? (Not counting Raz’s washed away HR)
This feels like all the years before it when we
realized that some guys need to go (Mulder, Izzy, etc) for various reasons and the club decides to stick with them over and over and over much to my dismay. I’ve seen all I need to see of Wellemeyer until after a trip to the DL (make it for a stress disorder or something). I’m also nearing my wits end with Khalil Greene. I get that he’s a SS and blah blah blah but a sub-.600 OPS is only kosher for Ozzie Smith or Adam Everett.

It's frustrating, to say the least

at least Greene has a bit of upside. My concern is that we’re playing guys who are, at best, role players in starting roles. I quite like Thurston but there’s no way he should be a starting 3B at this level. Ryan isn’t a major leaguer unless he’s playing SS, etc etc

Sorry, but I don’t want upside anymore from a 29 year old SS. I want him to hit the ball.
Future Redbirds - tracking Cardinal prospects for Cardinal Nation
first I want him to act like he gives a ****
he’s never going to get going if he doesn’t put forth some form of effort, Greene could become the next Encarnacion.
We all knew coming into the season
what his demeanor was. Don’t act like you’re surprised by that.

Juan in 2006
Had 16 win shares; 12.9 Batting, 3.1 in the field.
16 win shares = $4.9 Million from a 2006 RFer.
We paid him $3.5 Million
hecanthithecanthithecanthithecanthit
I dunno
something about that seems off to me….is there a relation between OPS and WS? Cause his 2006 OPS was .760….I don’t see how that works out to ~13 WS.
Now maybe I’m not fully conversant with the idea of Win Shares, but we only won 83 games that year, so he was responsible for ~15.5% of our wins? That just doesn’t jibe with what I remember about watching the guy play….
just my $.02, could be totally off the mark, etc
I think we agree on how
we remember Juan.
I just think he was worth 3.5 Mil and found the only way I could to back that up.
hecanthithecanthithecanthithecanthit
win shares
are your win total times three, so it’s less than that. I was a Juan defender at the time, based on the idea that his defense made him an average right fielder, but it seems like the updated UZR numbers don’t bear that out. He was an expensive mediocrity, but I think the flack he got was disproportionate to what he cost the team.
his bat wasn't bad
he definitely struck out too damn much…..but I think really the reason people were so negative about Juan is that the fans had the impression (rightly or wrongly) that he didn’t give his best effort all the time. YMMV.
KG is now in that category, again regardless of whether that impression is correct.
Juan was also sold
by the FO as an above average player (kind of like K-Bot) and was replacing a very popular Larry Walker. His slighty above mediocrity play and visual lack of effort was a perfect storm for fan malign.

nobody outwardly wants it more than mr. joe thurston
I don’t think watching a guy on TV every day gives us any real insight into their desire to become better baseball players.
thurston has about 1/10th of the talent Greene has
the fact is I believe it was too easy for him to get here and thus he doesn’t care. If i’m not allowing to speculate about such things on the internet, then where can I.
thurston
was also a top prospect at one point, one of the best in baseball. You’re allowed to speculate, but I just don’t think there’s any way of getting the necessary information from a guy’s facial expression and mannerisms.
Khalil Greene broke his hand punching a storage box in the dugout after his 100th strikeout to end his 2008 season, for what it’s worth. I doubt it was because he suddenly realized how goofy his hair looked.

But you know what though, when you get a good pitcher off the DL, it’s like making a great trade without having to make a great trade. And, when you get your other ace’s arm slot fixed, it’s like trading for SECOND good pitcher, and, once again, you didn’t make ANY trades!!!
