Constructive Feedback
We are well into the new regime for daily posters at VEB. Thought it would be interesting to hear what everyone thinks of the new lineup and changes in format over the last few months.
First of all, would like to thank all of the daily contributors for the effort. I certainly don't have the time and creativity to come up with something interesting to say every day. So kudos to all of them for keeping VEB interesting.
Second, as a general rule I like the way that FANPOSTS have been self-edited to big topics. It works much better in the last year and the posters generally put up some interesting topics. In fact, one of the nice things this year is that some of the fanposts becomes the de facto daily/weekly site for comments which takes some of the pressure off the main posters.
Third, love the Red Baron and his draft analyses. It's nice to delve so deeply into the draft. I wish we had more regular updates on the minor league season but Gould does a nice job on that this year so I get my fill from there.
Fourth, I like that all the games have separate game threads now instead of the daily post becoming a game thread but it does seem they don't always come up in time. Is that just me? Also, I don't like the Cards box score at the top of game threads because if I haven't been following the game, I don't like to log in and see the score before I get a chance to troll through the thread. Is there a way to block that?
Fifth, as far as the posters go, I think their main goal is to generate some discussion with new insight and I think they do a good job of that. My only recommendation is to get the daily post up earlier. I used to love waking up at 6:00 am last year and seeing a new post for the day. They seem to be later this year. Also, it would be interesting to have a weekly or monthly post on a review of the rest of the major leagues. I love the Cardinals but would like to see a broader post from time to time. Llboros used to do a session where he would answer five questions for the opposing team's poster on their site and we would get to see a discussion of five points about the opposing team on our site. Are you still going to be doing that? (I'm not a daily reader so apologies if I have missed these).
Sixth, can we get more Anthony Reyes posts -- seriously what does one have to do to get an Anthony fix anymore :)
Seventh, can't say enough about some of the great consistent comments from Sleepy, Viva, Tom S, Hardcore, Fourstick, and others. Always a good way to kill an hour every night.
As the title says, let's keep any comments constructive.

Hey,
Thanks for the feedback. In general I think that site-related comments should be sent through e-mail, but there’s nothing flame-baited about this, which I appreciate.
A few things, as I take my first look through it:
1. In general I write my morning entry at night, and chuck probably does the same thing. If an early scheduled post time is to everybody’s liking I’d be happy to change it.
2. The box score is an automated feature of the new SBN software, so I don’t think there’s anything we can do about it. But I’ll send an e-mail up the line to see what they have for DVR-watchers. The game thread in general is, as far as I know, a new-ish SBN feature, and whenever I’ve tried to schedule a thread in advance it posts it twice, once at my scheduled time and again at game time. That’ll be part two of my e-mail, I guess.
3. I agree about the five questions thing—I’ll try to get that going again.
#1 is my only pet peeve
I get bored at work and want something to read in the mornings and I get ancy for game threads.

I'm with Alex on number one
especially if it’s as easy as changing the scheduled time.
On with the (good) youth movement!
would love to see the 5 questions back

+1 on changing post time
except Red Baron. He’s kind of carved out his own niche, so I enjoy waiting on Wednesdays for his weekly novel to appear. I’d also like to say I really like it when he includes some off-topic stuff in his post like music recommendations. Other than that, good job all around. I love Chuckb’s sharp analysis and reading DanUp’s posts replaces my need for a word of the day calendar, since I end up looking up something from his post almost every day anyway. He is quite the orthogenetic linguist…wait, I think I’m still using that one wrong.
luv red, i really do
but the dude seams to be holding back to me. i mean, he really never opens up & gives us a hint as to what the man behind the keyboard is thinking. he just keeps everything so short, if he would stop limiting his words, and if he would just let go, open up & let the words flow, i think he could be one of the greats. i really do.

I shall take this under advisement.
God help you all.

My only gripe
Is the day you have to wait after registering for the site to post. I know you guys want to keep out trolls but you are also keeping away good posters from other teams also. During this off season I had regular email conversations with Sean Smith, author of CHONE. He was going to post on one of my fan posts but didn’t because of the day to wait. I think we can all agree we would rather have Sean Smith posting on VEB than not.
Just a thought
Stat Whore
But for every Sean Smith
there might be 25 idiots.
Secret elixir, huh? Well, I'm usually more of a bourbon guy but when push comes to shove I don't know what the hell's in that either.
I still have nightmares about moderating the Mets trolls during the 2006 NLCS
ok, not really. But there were problems…
They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...
No... stop...
that comment doesn’t make sense… Pujols is not overrated you idiot… no personal attakcs!

I understand that
When I really wanted it to be changed was during the off season when trolls are in hibernation.

i know...
… that this site’s moderators have nothing to do with this, but it seems like it would make sense for SB Nation to allow registered users to post on any site on the network. i, too, have had the occasional desire to post on another SB Nation site, but can’t without registering again and waiting a day.
this is stupid.
Could the mods make it so the Cards quit sucking...?

The one post I have always wanted to see
Was stats on VEB itself. Like What is the avg number of comments in a day, who has the highest daily comment, who has the most rec’s, the most flags,… Something along those lines

we could create VEBWAR
