At 16-7 this team is off to one of the greatest starts in Cardinal history, but I keep thinking about how many games were so close but lost.
Game 1. Motte is one strike from a season opening win.
Game 9. Carp goes down but game is lost by Kinney's meltdown in the 8th.
Game 12. Cards up on the Scrubs and Perez gives up a Soriano Homer in the 8th.
Game 13. Game went to extra innings against them Scrubs again. Game lost in the 10th. This one is iffy. Cards did not have the lead late.
Game 21. Had the lead against the Braves and McClellen gets wild and loses it in the 8th.
Only Game 3 (Loss to Pit 7-4) and Game 19 (Loss to the Scrubs 10-3) were not winnable with better pitching in the 8th or later. At 21-2 the Cards would be at the '84 Tigers pace.
I am really excited about this team. The kids will win those games later in the year with more experience. The "O" is great. Some are hitting above there heads, but as Ankiel comes out of his slump and Rasmus gets experience it will keep the offense moving. Schu is doing great at 2nd. Great Idea of moving him there, that started here on VEB. I think the D is the only disappointment. Half of Albert's error have been taking chances. He has made up for all of them by great plays picking at least 3 overruns off as well as the pickoff plays with Yadi. Although K Greene might lose his job to B. Ryan if he does not pick it up.
The only worry I had coming in to ST was Duncan and Glaus' replacement. Both seem to be fine. This team might be as good as the 2004 team.
