"I remember once talking to one guy on the Cardinals and asking him what Pujols was like as a teammate. He said something that’s really special, if you think about it. He said: "Albert is so good that you feel like you let him down when you screw up." I thought that had to be the ultimate line that could ever be said about a ballplayer. I build my baseball team around that ballplayer."

It's Awesome to Win

Great news that Carp pitched seven shut-out innings with no earned runs and seven strike outs!

BUT . . . . we just split our opening series with the Pitt-Rats. We need to win series like this.

My last three months in the Marines I had to do MP duty

at Marine Corps Air Station New River in North Carolina and about once a day, I’d get on the radio and say “units be advised there is an attempt 211 to arrest now at 938 temple” and immediately somebody would get online and say “shut up, fritz.”

I swear, it was hilarious at the time.

Hopefully...

this start by Carp will give the rest of the rotation some confidence.

The way his first/last start of 07 sucked all the confidence out of the rotation (except 2nd half Wainwright).

by DisplacedCardsFan on Apr 9, 2009 5:39 PM EDT reply actions

Good morning, gentlemen

I missed one hell of a game – stuff happens when your city is under siege from cabbies. How good did Carp look? Is the consensus that Motte’s in the House of Dog for a while?

An optimist is a man who upon discovering that a rose smells better than a cabbage concludes it will make better soup.

HL Mencken

by akaitori on Apr 9, 2009 5:45 PM EDT reply actions

Yup

it was a good move. I always wondered why Tony played all possible splits in the bullpen until it was the 9th, and then it was all Izzy, regardless of who was coming up. I liked the move for Reyes a lot.

And to answer your first question, akaitori: No hits through 6 & 2/3s and should havebeen through 7 if not for Skip being a 2nd. It was vintage Carp, just pounding the zone.

I was thrilled to see what they did to Kanye. Now I am really dissappointed to see that on the surface he didnt take it too badly. I was personally hoping for him to be up in arms about it, so I could go back and watch the episode with even more enjoyment.

Maybe I’m jumping ship a little, but it seems like Carp is back to his old Cy Young-esk self. He’s had a great spring and is showing no signs of slowing down. Since we’ve been waiting for two years, and he’s finally producing, hopefully this is a good sign of things to come.
