2009 Game 1 Overflow Thread
So, a pretty good outing for Wainwright, and K. Greene is already making his mark in St. Louis.
Brendan Ryan should not be hitting lead-off.
Albert is The Mang.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.
Present.
Why can’t we get Maholm out?
[Homer shows Bart "Wonderbat".]
Bart: Wow. How many home runs you gonna hit with that thing?
Homer: Let's see... We play thirty games. Ten at-bats a game. Mm...three thousand.
The Pirates announcers have more pep in their step now
and why shouldn’t they. Their team gets to face our bullpen.
I don't think we really needed one

But, but.....
Motte and Perez should have saved games last year.
This is why I prefer an experienced closer. It’s a mental game. I believe Motte just gave up more runs today then he did all of ST, or close. What changed? The games are for real.

He threw a lot of strikes, but wasn’t able to keep the ball down. His velocity was low, hopefully thats just a fluke.

f*** that
"I remember once talking to one guy on the Cardinals and asking him what Pujols was like as a teammate. He said something that’s really special, if you think about it. He said: "Albert is so good that you feel like you let him down when you screw up." I thought that had to be the ultimate line that could ever be said about a ballplayer. I build my baseball team around that ballplayer."
that pisses me of as much as the game itself

Exactly.
He’s not a child. He pitched like shit. If it’d had been Franklin, this board would have been all over him, but somehow this is different?
I get a "D" in common sense ... and an "F" in general helping.
However, we know Franklin shouldn't be in that situation
We are hoping Motte can be successful, and if closing really is a mental game then the fans aren’t doing him any favors. Should they be dissapointed? Absolutely. Should they treat him like he is worthless? Absolutely not. It’s game 1, and he’s a rookie trying to earn his first ML save. People need to chill out.

It's not personal... it's business.
I felt like booing my radio. It’s not Motte…. he wasn’t there last year, but man that felt just like every blown save last year. I don’t blame them for being frustrated as hell.
It was booing the same ole crap. Yeah, it’s the first game, but it simply looks like the next game.
Baseball Fever.... Catch it!
No, they were booing Motte
When Tony comes to the mound and Motte starts walking towards to dugout and the jeers begin, it is towards him. The added frustration from last year is just salt in the wounds.

I got pissed when people went overboard on Franklin last year
Motte didn’t pitch good today, but that is no reason for people to be saying he is going to be a terrible closer. We can agree on that, no?
I admit that I drank those last two beers pretty damn fast after that 9th inning.

Why
do the little Pirates own us?
The time has come for someone to put his foot down and that foot is me
my liver can't take another 31 blown saves

Ouch
Ouch. My pride. And of course, Motte is on my fantasy team.
"...and pujols has given st louis the lead"
ditto
game 1 loss, and negative 13 points. Not a good day
Is it weird that I would rather the payroll be more like the Marlins than the Yankees?
