Looks like Ryan gets the nod at 2nd, and to me, a bigger shock, Barden gets the nod at 3rd.

For those that don't want to follow the link

   1. Brendan Ryan, 2B
   2. Rick Ankiel, CF
   3. Albert Pujols, 1B
   4. Khalil Greene, SS
   5. Ryan Ludwick, RF
   6. Yadier Molina, C
   7. Chris Duncan, LF
   8. Brian Barden, 3B
   9. Adam Wainwright, P

I don’t understand starting Barden at all and I am wondering about Greene in the cleanup spot and Yadi hitting in front of Duncan. It just doesn’t seem like either the best nine or the best batting order. Given those starters I would suggest a lineup:

1. Ryan 2B
2. Ankiel CF
3. Pujols 1B
4. Ludwick RF
5. Duncan LF
6. Greene SS
7. Molina C
8. Barden 3B
9. Wainwright P

That is probably the worst possibly lineup that we could put out there

I mean seriously. I know that Tony is an old school mangager, but he should at least get someone to summarize The Book for him. In the most important spots in the lineup (1st, 2nd, 4th) he has two bad hitters, and one good one. Pujols 3rd and Ludwick 5th are bad as well. As for Barden, why is he starting? Does La Russa really put that much stock in spring training, and think that a player who has been a mediocre hitter all of his life, could suddenly start to hit well.

Dreadful lineup. I cannot see any logic to this configuration. Someone help me, please.

ahhh

So the madness begins. Welcome to a new season of Cardinals baseball!

I have a love/hate relationship with the Cardinals' middle relief corps.
