Look, I don't ask for much. All I want from the 2009 season is for Carp and Adam to combine for 420 IP and go 1-2 in the Cy Young voting, and for Albert to win the MVP again. Oh, and for the Cubs to never win another World Series as long as I live. I really don't think that is too much to ask.

I realize we’re off to a good start overall but the terrific hitting has covered for what has been awful defensive team. we make all sorts of stupid plays in the field, take bad angles, start plays out of position, etc etc etc

It means to let the ball travel deeper into the zone

You need to let the ball get deeper in the zone and trust that your hands are quick enough to hit the ball instead of lunging out the hit the ball in front of the plate.

The strike zone for Waino has been inconsistent at best.

You can tell he gets frustrated with the non-calls on the lower half, and tries to elevate the ball just a bit. This leads to some sloppy pitches. His control is just a bit off anyway, though.

From the games i've watched,

it seems we’ve been getting jobbed on the low strike pretty much all season. There was one game, against the Flubs maybe?, that I recall the low strike being called but it almost looks like someone told the umpires they wanted more offense this year, so quit calling the strike at the knees.

"I remember once talking to one guy on the Cardinals and asking him what Pujols was like as a teammate. He said something that’s really special, if you think about it. He said: "Albert is so good that you feel like you let him down when you screw up." I thought that had to be the ultimate line that could ever be said about a ballplayer. It was the PBP guy who said it, although the color guy just called Motte’s 3-1 slider to Norton a “batting practice fastball.” Whoever pitches batting practice with that much movement is doing a terrible job.
