Why else would people try to hit a round ball and run in circles around a dirty field?
if they didn’t put their own sense of value into it?

you've missed the point
you could say that about anything… typing “first” at the beginning of a comment thread is far different.
"I think he's the best hitter of all time. I think there has never been a better hitter than him. And I know I didn't see them all, but I just don't think there could be." - Adam Wainwright on The Mang
In what way? If it is something to be enjoyed and entertained by then it is exactly the same.

Now if you want to debate the relevance of typing "first"

Wanted to continue this on the new thread so folks could see it….the Cards have had trouble with bullpen overexposure when the starters have difficulty getting deep into games….when you’ve got a guy at 76 pitches and doing a pretty good job, maybe it’s better to let him try to work out of jams. If he does, then your bullpen doesn’t have to get seven outs….
my question is do we have an off day on thursday?
cant we afford to use some arms if so?

yeah, but when your pitcher is Joel Pineiro
and he doesn’t strike ANYONE out, and he starts giving up really hard contact, then you get him outta the game with a lead in tact. Especially when it’s the 7th inning already.
"I think he's the best hitter of all time. I think there has never been a better hitter than him. And I know I didn't see them all, but I just don't think there could be." - Adam Wainwright on The Mang
which is a valid point
if it were up to me I would have let him pitch to Ross. But the move worked in the short term, let’s see how it does in the long term….
Gotta win the games though
Pineiro was starting to get hit and hit HARD. 2.1 innings (hopefully) isn’t too much to ask from the pen. We’ve also got Lohse and Waino going the next two games, so hopefully they’ll go deep into the games.

Steve Phillips just said that Ludwick has a below average arm
Ludwick’s ARM rating last year: +6.4
St. Louis Cardinals... defying win expectancy since 2008
He doesn't have an especially strong arm
Dunno how much faith I’d put in 1 year’s worth of data on what 40 chances that matter?
Not afraid to nitpick
That's almost part of it
It seems like people run on Ludwick a lot because his arm isn’t Ankiel-esque, but he seems to have a really accurate arm and thus throws them out anyway.
His ARM rating this year is almost +4 already
His career ARM rating is +10.

This is the type of game I was worried about
Not just because it was a close game, but because it needed to be a grind them out, productive baseball, get a run when you can game.
Very Nice game boys

this one felt like it was going to be a heartbreaker
nice to bounce back from that drubbing yesterday with a well-played game, all around.

agreed. Joel getting two outs in the middle of that inning was solid, and Perez really played fireman well. Can’t really complain about the boys tonight. K-Mac won’t look like that often, and he gutted out of it.

We have
2 candidates for pitcher of the month, Jo-el and Kyle. Let us see how he fares tomorrow. Only other candidate is Billingsley, and he is serious this month.

Missed today's game unfortunately
but this team has a short memory, they lose a poorly played game yesterday and come back to win against a great pitcher, very nice to see!
We're not even playing the Cubs..
and ’dome just keeps pissing me off. DP assist at home. Still up 1-0

did I read that right?
Dan Haren doubles, 2 RBI. Three pitches later, Chris Young doubles, 2 RBI. (Then he stole second.)
Couldn’t have happened to a nicer club.

apparently he's our short stop also

Dan Haren
pitched a very nice game against the Cubs tonight. 3 hits, 2 ER (both homers), 10 K, 0 BB. A complete game that took 111 pitches. Sigh…
yeah, i thought it was a bad decision to send him out for the 9th
OTOH, he was cruising. He made the entire lineup look awful the last two innings. bradley was completely lost.
- "I went at it and didn’t slow down, so it kind of bounced off me." -Lil' Dunc
But how about the Mark Mulder tonight! No hits allowed at all!
In fact, he hasn’t given up a hit in months!
If Daric Barton ever becomes something, I may just cut off a toe for no particular reason other than to make me feel worse about that trade.
hecanthithecanthithecanthithecanthit
As far as i'm concerned
Dan Haren was never a part of this organization……atleast, that’s what I have to tell myself to keep from crying

and in other news
renteria has no range whatsoever at short… and manny drives in the go-ahead run in LA, on a one-out 6-hopper that really should have been a GIDP.

and the dodgers still lose! Woot!

It's going to be glorious
The offense has been held to 3 runs each of the last two game and Pujols has ‘scuffled’ 2 games in a row…if you can call not seeing anything to hit, being hit and then swinging at some bad 3-0 pitches scuffling for the greatest player on the planet.
So, there is a storm brewing. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon. And it’s going to cause some poor pitcher to brush up his resume for that opening at the local Quiznos.

I just looked up our splits as a team...
to see how many more at-bats we have against lefties compared to everyone else. I was pretty shocked to find we’re just 6th in the league with 236, while Oakland, Kansas City, San Diego, Boston, and Atlanta all have more…
