Why else would people try to hit a round ball and run in circles around a dirty field?

if they didn’t put their own sense of value into it?

by miniboscorino on Apr 27, 2009 9:19 PM EDT up reply actions

you've missed the point

you could say that about anything… typing “first” at the beginning of a comment thread is far different.

Now if you want to debate the relevance of typing "first"

Wanted to continue this on the new thread so folks could see it….the Cards have had trouble with bullpen overexposure when the starters have difficulty getting deep into games….when you’ve got a guy at 76 pitches and doing a pretty good job, maybe it’s better to let him try to work out of jams. If he does, then your bullpen doesn’t have to get seven outs….

I dunno

I hate being cavalier about the bullpen….5 inning starts destroyed our season last year cause the bullpen buckled under the strain of having to get 10+ outs all the time.

by nota bene on Apr 27, 2009 9:19 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah, but when your pitcher is Joel Pineiro

and he doesn’t strike ANYONE out, and he starts giving up really hard contact, then you get him outta the game with a lead in tact. Especially when it’s the 7th inning already.

which is a valid point

by nota bene on Apr 27, 2009 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Gotta win the games though

Pineiro was starting to get hit and hit HARD. 2.1 innings (hopefully) isn’t too much to ask from the pen. We’ve also got Lohse and Waino going the next two games, so hopefully they’ll go deep into the games.

But now that you mention it, Colby vs. Snowcones – Who has the cooler nickname? Who’s caught more games? Who had a wildly improbably couple weeks in 2006 that culminated in a walkoff slam against the Cubs? I rest my case.
And having made that case, even in jest, I probably should be banned from ever posting here again.

did I read that right?

Dan Haren doubles, 2 RBI. Three pitches later, Chris Young doubles, 2 RBI. (Then he stole second.)

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer club.

The fourth picture in this gallery has a caption that just “Skipped” our second baseman’s nickname.

apparently he's our short stop also

Chuck Norris doesn't need a bat.

he just roundhouse kicks the ball out of the park.

No errors tonight. Yay

Only the 6th time this year, Cards are 5-1 when not making errors.

Dan Haren

pitched a very nice game against the Cubs tonight. 3 hits, 2 ER (both homers), 10 K, 0 BB. A complete game that took 111 pitches. Sigh…

yeah, i thought it was a bad decision to send him out for the 9th

OTOH, he was cruising. He made the entire lineup look awful the last two innings. bradley was completely lost.

But how about the Mark Mulder tonight! No hits allowed at all!

In fact, he hasn’t given up a hit in months!

If Daric Barton ever becomes something, I may just cut off a toe for no particular reason other than to make me feel worse about that trade.

As far as i'm concerned

Dan Haren was never a part of this organization……atleast, that’s what I have to tell myself to keep from crying

and in other news

renteria has no range whatsoever at short… and manny drives in the go-ahead run in LA, on a one-out 6-hopper that really should have been a GIDP.

It's going to be glorious

The offense has been held to 3 runs each of the last two game and Pujols has ‘scuffled’ 2 games in a row…if you can call not seeing anything to hit, being hit and then swinging at some bad 3-0 pitches scuffling for the greatest player on the planet.

So, there is a storm brewing. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon. And it’s going to cause some poor pitcher to brush up his resume for that opening at the local Quiznos.

I just looked up our splits as a team...

to see how many more at-bats we have against lefties compared to everyone else. I was pretty shocked to find we’re just 6th in the league with 236, while Oakland, Kansas City, San Diego, Boston, and Atlanta all have more…
