Not happy with TLR right now
I don’t understand how you can use B. Ryan instead of Ludwick. I shake my head sadly as I go to bed and wonder why I stayed up for this.
i cant wait
to see the lineup for tomorrows game
infield of:
freese
ryan
barden
duncan
with thurston getting the start in LF
"Baseball is like Church, many attend, few understand" - Wes Westrum
and that AB that B Ryan struck out in
with 1 out and the bases loaded—how high was the leverage there? I mean, what the hell? Does Ryan or Ludwick have some sort of split that we don’t know about? Some tendency he saw in Qualls? What was the justification?
And does he have to switch out four position players by the 6th inning of every game?
Ludwick 1 for 4 vs Qualls

I'm just groping for a reason here
not even a reason I can agree with, just any reason at all—what the hell could he possibly have been thinking? All he needed was a goddamn fly ball and we win the game in 9—which player was more likely to hit a fly ball there?
Ludwick was a lot more likely to strike out
Turns out Ryan did, but he had a better chance of making contact

that's what i've been doing, too

I gotta think he coulda PH for ANK too
Ank has been horrible this year at hitting and plus it was a clutch situation and Ankiel is horrible in the clutch.
Chuck Norris doesn't need a bat.
he just roundhouse kicks the ball out of the park.
by bearcatcardfan on Apr 15, 2009 1:12 AM EDT up reply actions
that is true
but it shouldn’t have come for that. it is at least defensible to have Ankiel there. it is not defensible for Ryan to be there
"I think he's the best hitter of all time. I think there has never been a better hitter than him. And I know I didn't see them all, but I just don't think there could be." - Adam Wainwright on The Mang
see
I can come to grips with that. Ankiel can hit, he’s cold right now, but at least he’s got a track record of being able to hit a simple fly ball. Plus you don’t need to waste all your position players in case it goes to 45 innings.
I mean,
it’s not necessarily that I agree with TLR’s decision to not PH for Ankiel, but there’s at least an argument to be made on Ank’s behalf.
La Russa was probably the only one in the ballpark who would have put B Ryan in in that situation.

How about the fact that Albert's game tying single
was a slow chopper, but Skip somehow didnt score from second?
"I remember once talking to one guy on the Cardinals and asking him what Pujols was like as a teammate. He said something that’s really special, if you think about it. He said: "Albert is so good that you feel like you let him down when you screw up." I thought that had to be the ultimate line that could ever be said about a ballplayer. I build my baseball team around that ballplayer."

BS Rick....Ludwick wasn't hurt....i saw him holding a bat down in the dugout
and putting Ryan in because “of contact” is complete garbage….Ryan strikes out a ton…and he did just that!
and he makes weak contact

the guys on FSMW were saying, "we dont really know why ludwick wasn't put in there...perhaps he was sick or something..."
If he was sick
he needs to man up and get out there. Which is what Ludwick strikes me as the kind of guy to be.
Sentences fail.

no, i'm sorry Ricky. there is no reasonable explanation
as to why Studwick was not hitting in the 9th.

ohh we're gonna here one soon
and it’s going to be great. Can we hire the New York media to come down and do his post game interviews?
because he has a hitting streak.
period.
For better or for worse, that is the only reason that makes any sense at all, unless Ryan missed a squeeze sign.
- So, to ease his pain, you're supposed to take him to a ball game?
- Yes.

what is larussa's deal with ludwick?
why do i get the feeling that if it was matt holliday sitting on the bench instead of ryan ludwick he would have hit in the 9th? actually, i guess holliday wouldn’t even be on the bench because he would be starting everyday. maybe we should have traded for him. at least we would have that production in the lineup everyday.

A solution to our CARP batting prolem
Chuck Norris doesn't need a bat.
he just roundhouse kicks the ball out of the park.
or possibly this
6.02c) If the batter refuses to take his position in the batter’s box during his time at bat, the umpire shall call a strike on the batter. The ball is dead, and no runners may advance. After the penalty, the batter may take his proper position and the regular ball and strike count shall continue. If the batter does not take his proper position before three strikes have been called, the batter shall be declared out.

there was a similair discussion on here
around a year ago, give or take, about intentionally walking batters. the pitcher could just touch his mouth four times…
i think someone came to the conclusion that it was all heresy.
they were probably right. the GOB would frown upon such shenanigans. never tempt the fates…
Most times when you IBB some one there is a runner on a base other than first
and you want to set up the force play. Touching the mouth would result in the runner advancing as well.

there was also something to do with a fine or something
can’t remember now, but it wasn’t as simple as just giving up an IBB.
- So, to ease his pain, you're supposed to take him to a ball game?
- Yes.
yeah multiple offences carry a fine
