Game 5 - Overflow Thread
That homerun deserves a new thread of admiration. Could he challenge Pujols for the HR lead this year?
Solid outing by Pineiro who is in line for the win. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Not cool

Seriously... what were Rich Harden's parents thinking?!?!?!
I mean it in seriousness
If you think Pineiro is going to pitch like this all season you are kidding yourself. Just like Carp and Wainwright will have bad outings. It was a very good outing by Pineiro and he deserves props for it. He should enjoy it till the next outing.
Yeah, but the difference is that we don’t need Pineiro to be good…..just not terrible. I think tonight is a step in the right direction there.

One Century down, next on its way. Cardinals '09 : Preserving the Cubs tradition.
by AdjustedExpectations on Apr 10, 2009 11:22 PM EDT up reply actions
It was the right decision for winning the game tonight
which ultimately is what the manager should be trying to do.
But since LaRussa has spent his career trying to win some game some 2 months in the future tonight, Jason Motte being pulled from that situation is far worse for him mentally than being out there to see another save blown. Not only does he now have to face his own beliefs that he might be a failure but he knows now that he has NO margin for error before the big rusty hook pulls him off the mound.
by Hardcore Legend on Apr 10, 2009 11:25 PM EDT up reply actions
I think we could all agree that if Perez did what he was s’posed to be doing, motte would be at best a setup guy, or a firehose role.
He should know well he shouldn’t have been in there, the secondary stuff still isn’t there, and forcing it low is almost insane

It's a judgment call
but I worry about Motte under TLR. He’s got a live arm but I don’t like how many sliders they’re having him throw. If they want him to learn that pitch, send him to AAA. Otherwise just see if he can blow high heaters bye guys.
I’m worried about the communication between Yadi and Motte and his approach with his arsenal more than I am about Tony protecting the lead by just getting out of there with a win.
One Century down, next on its way. Cardinals '09 : Preserving the Cubs tradition.
by AdjustedExpectations on Apr 10, 2009 11:34 PM EDT up reply actions
yes.
TLR’s is the usual, but Yadi and Motte need to get on the same page. There might be some philosophical differences there with Mr. All-in-one energizer battery, pun intended. Motte’s got to stop thinking like a catcher, and start developing a short memory. I dunno if Yadi’s keeping that in mind when he goes up there to trade catcher-pats.
YMMV.

I was just thinking
that sliding him lower in the bullpen rotation might be the best for now

OT: Blues won.

someday soon, motte will look back at these games and, well he wont laugh at them, but he will have learned from them

I feel dumb saying this
But I still hope they give Motte another chance. His stuff is too good for Memphis, although it certainly hasn’t been in his first two appearances
to be fair, his wife just had a baby
he probably hasn’t slept in over a week.

blind squirrels, etc.
I’ll praise Tony for good process and bad results or good process and good results. Poor process, which starting Skip against a lefty is, will get slammed every time.
Come on man, being 1 for 742 vs LHP simply showed
that Skip was due.
Some day you’ll laugh, well…you won’t laugh about this but you’ll have learned something.

it's not necessarily poor process
when the lefty is MIke Hampton.
of course, that the lefty is Mike Hampton must also be taken into account when discussing Skip’s new amazing prowess vs. southpaws. so, you’re not wrong generally, but starting Skip last night wasn’t a terrible idea.
Anybody see Barry Weinberg hi-five Ludwick after his home run?
I don’t like seeing that at all. It’s like being touched by the grim fucking reaper.

Looking good out in SD.
Got out of a bases loaded no out jam with a double play and a strikeout.

Is anyone else watching the Nats/Braves game?
Not that it’s a recent observation or anything, but Braves fans are far and away the dumbest bunch in the entire league. Astros fans are a distant 2nd, but it’s not close.

Well...
for one thing I go to school in East Tennessee so I’m around a lot of them, and they’re just generally ignorant on the game. Secondly, I sit here and watch them (because I get EVERY one of their games on TV) and they just carry themselves like little league parents. Uproar over the 3rd to 1st move, which I know happens everywhere, but they take it to a different level. They blindly boo calls by the umpire that are clearly correct, and they freak out on every fly ball that finds its way out of the infield. Again, I know this stuff goes on in every ballpark, but they seem to be the worst.
And those are just the ones that show up...
For as many people in this region tell you that they’re Braves fans, its a wonder that Turner Field is at about half capacity every night.
Im from Braves Country
and, from my perspective; they were spoiled with the umpteen billion consecutive titles, and now feel like they dont need to go to the park. The Braves always field a good team and will go to the wire, or playoffs, whichever comes first.
I dont see it that way, but a bunch of my ATL friends have told me that very thing.
C'mon you Redbirds, lets prove em' wrong, again!

If they really think that way...
that just makes me think even less of them. But they’ve never showed up like they should. They weren’t even selling out NLDS games the couple times we’ve met up with them.
