Top Pick 2009 videos - Stupid
Did anyone check out the Top Pick 2009 videos on mlb.com
the "race" is between pujols and hanley ramirez for the top pick, and you can vote on the site too, i think pujols has a pretty good lead over ramirez (go vote)
But did you see the videos they made for the top picks? They seem like crappy political commercials you see on tv during campaign time, really stupid too.
I especially think hanley's ad is pathetic, it says to not be fooled by Pujols' OBP of .462 last year because his "off-base percentage" was .538 so why would you vote for someone who's off base 54% of the time
And i'm like, "wait a minute, Ramirez had worse OBP than pujols had last year, what the heck is this "ad" saying?"
It just seems really stupid and even though it's just a vote, it's a really dumb idea to have campaign ads that are completely pointless.

ryan howard's was gr8
its a knee slapper
Chuck Norris doesn't need a bat.
he just roundhouse kicks the ball out of the park.
I enjoyed
the Dick’s commercial w/ Howard and BJ Upton that’s been circulating. Upton keeps saying things like “Defense” and “Speed” win championships and all Howard repeats is “POWER!!!”.
But the Jimmy Rollins’ one is by far the funniest.
Patiently awaiting the day Colby Rasmus does this: .275/.381/.551/.932, 29HR, in St. Louis...

I laugh so hard every time I see the Rollins commercial. His face cracks me up!
....my quick smells like french toast...
I thought
they were funny because they were so ridiculous. Like “MVP” stands for “Most Valuable Passerby” because Albert walked 104 times last year. Stupid, yes, but still rather funny.
agree
i just watched the videos, and it’s clear that the hanley “54%” thing was totally tongue-in-cheek. I was surprised by how interesting the videos were, actually.
Shame Luddy didn’t have one.
- So, to ease his pain, you're supposed to take him to a ball game?
- Yes.
watch the Hamilton one, btw
they take the exact opposite approach, “12 days without a walk in the month of june… twelve days…”
- So, to ease his pain, you're supposed to take him to a ball game?
- Yes.
I viewed all of the "campaign ads"
and I thought that one was hilarious due to its oppositeness (not a word, I know) to the “Most Valuable Passerby” bit.
Semi-related
It is really starting to piss me off how overvalued sluggers are these days. All of the finalists were big homerun/rbi guys who played crappy defense at crappy positions (Pujols, Sizemore and Hanely are exceptions). Some of them are excellent, but a lot other are only a little above average.
