Need people for my fantasy league

It's a free Yahoo roto league with live draft currently scheduled for March 27 at 8:30 pm CST, but may change that time if enough people want it changed. I have a few people that most likely will play, but I need probably like 7 or 8 more. Probably will have 12 teams max. Would like somewhat competitive players, but I always have a few that kind of check out mid-season, so it's not a requirement.

Yeah, sure

I’ll join. I’m somehow in all head-to-head leagues this year. I could use a roto.

On with the (good) youth movement!

General Fantasy Question

So, I have the number 5 pick this year, the inaugural year of a keeper league. Everyone is available. With AROD now being very iffy for this season, his draft stock takes him out of the top 3-5 for me, and probably into the second or third round.

So what do I do with the 5 pick? My hopes/expectations initially were to select whoever was left out of the Jose Reyes/David Wright Mets, but my gut tells me that after Pujols and Hanley and those two, the drop off is significant. At 5, I think I may be left choosing to start the OF grab (Braun, and Sizemore), or going after Miguel Cabrera, reaching for Santana or reaching for Jimmy Rollins and hoping for his MVP season.

Braun could hit 40 homers, .280-.290, drive in 110+, and steal 10-15 bags. Sizemore is a 30/30 guy, with good Runs, but RBIs could be under 80 and average isn’t as good. Miguel Cabrera is extremely talented, but I’m not sure if grabbing him at this point is good “Value”. I’m not a traditional SP guy in the first round, as I feel you have to get production from your number one guy. Rollins is atop thin positional scarcity, but I think 5 is too early for him too.

This is a H2H league, so getting the five-tool player like Sizemore isn’t absolutely necessary like it is w/ a roto.

What would anyone do with my pick.

Good question

I’ve never played in a keeper league before, but I don’t think you should probably go for Santana. Still a great pitcher, but not enough for a top pick in a keeper league IMO.

I’m slightly leaning toward Cabrera, but really for no good reason that I just seem to like him better this season fantasy-wise than Braun and Sizemore.

Keeper league?

I wouldn’t reach for Santana or Rollins, they are both getting past their prime. You want someone who’s going to be around and good for years to come at a premium position, imo.

I might make the reach for Lincecum here. He’s young, has a high K rate, and managed to win a ton of games for a terrible offensive team that should be a little bit better this year. He will pay off down the road for you. I think that Braun is a good player — but there’s a lot of good players in the corner outfield — I think Sizemore would be a better pick for you.

I can’t really help you unless I know exactly how your keeper league works. Are you keeping your entire roster or just a couple of players from year to year. Are you drafting players from the minors every year? If so, how deep does your roster go into the minors in terms of players? Etc., etc.

keeper setup

sorry to mislead. i only mentioned the keeper component to say that everyone was available to pick.

Our keeper league is a value league, where any number of players can be kept, but the kept player must be “selected” by the retaining team at a draft slot two rounds prior to the preceeding year. (Ex. taking Rasmus in the 20th round this year means I can keep him next year in the 18th, year after that in the 16th, etc.) This also means that anyone selected in the first two rounds of each years draft can’t be kept. That keeps the “top talent” recycling from year to year.

As far as my leanings towards the Number 5 pick, I’m leaning heavily towards Miguel. He’s a safe bet for 30+HR, 110+RBI, 100R, and .310 avg. All of those are also very conservative with his talent. To quote someone from a mock draft I did today, he’s “Pujols-ian” in a way. Maybe that’s what sold me:)

i like my roster better with Miguel up top than I do with Braun and Sizemore. I also don’t want a SP in the first, as I can’t justify the risk.

I had an awesome idea

the other day. It totally slipped my mind, so I’m waiting to see if it presents itself again.

I always have great ideas and I think “this is so good there is no way I’ll forget it.”
