CN Approval Ratings: Albert Pujols
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a mid-week break. So we'll do an easy one, especially since it ties in to yesterday's news about the SI cover.
What kind of rating do you give Mr. Pujols? I think we'd all stipulate he's one of the top 5 or so Cardinals of all time, which obviously factors in.
However, he's been known to have times where he's not too personable with fans and can drive people crazy with his baserunning.
So what say you? Where does El Hombre rate on your 0-100 scale?
Remember, you can find all the results at my blog.

To make up for the one person out there that will give him a 99 instead of a 100.

99%
Because no one, not even Albert, is absolutely perfect. He makes the occasional blunder, especially on the base paths. But I can’t imagine giving any one else a higher rating than I am giving The Mang.

Albert Pujols
His rating is “Albert Pujols” which of course can’t be quanitified within human concepts like “numbers” and “value”. The best option then is to just round down (way down) to 100%.

nice
I agree with matty… rounding down to 100%.

Thanks!
In all seriousness, I am totally serious in thinking he deserves a 100. He’s inarguably the best player in baseball. All the interwebs agree. Can you ask for more? Well, no, you can’t ask for more because it’s impossible to be better than best. Although Albert might find a way to do that, right after he hits the first ever 5-run homer…
So I think 100 is perfectly reasonable.

I didn’t mean to use “serious” so much in my first sentence. Oh well.

Irrational Number of the Day
I was off by 2.87371429% on Lohse, and some posters thank you for the detailed results C70.
As for the El Hombre, 100.00000000% which means I might be off by about .11215926%, and I reserve the right to change that prediction. Who knows, Brad Lidge could be posting on VEB today and give him like a 2 or something.

Today’s poll is bat-nuts. How do you find fault with someone who hits for a super-high average, lots of power, rarely strikes out, maintains a high walk rate, gold glove in fielding, has stayed with the same organization for his entire career, practically never misses a game, thanks God for all of his successes, and doesn’t have a whiff of steroid scandal?
I don’t believe in perfect scores. But I almost made an exception in this case.

An allegory
Most people had that English teacher in high school. You’d write the perfect 5-page essay. It was the best she’d ever read. You’d be so excited to get it back, when you look at the grade that says “Wow, great job! 95” You ask her why she didn’t give you a 100, and she says, I don’t give 100s, papers don’t deserve 100s. Well, I’m definitely not like that teacher.

Easiest question/answer in the history of questions/answers...

The thought that I have is that the season is over. And that everybody in the game; a fan, a coach, a player, a manager, front office, scouts...surrender. They say, "that's enough," especially after a game like this. But then Christmas comes, New Years, contracts are signed, trades are made, free agents are signed; and then baseball, like the rose beneath the April snow will force it's way to the front again. And we'll have the fever once more.

As as this particular poll is, it’s never a bad thing to stop and marvel at what Albert Pujols means to us and this team.
Here are my top 2 concerns in these economic times:
1) Will I be able to keep my job?
2) Is all this going to prevent us from re-signing Albert?
For the teams I root for in other sports, I always hope the team is making the best decisions possible to benefit the team. In the case of our Cardinals, I hope the team is making the best decisions possible to benefit Albert.
