Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Mike Parisi is now a Cub (Rule 5)

According to Derrick Goold.  Oh well.  I'm gonna be honest and say I think we'll be fine.

He showed some promise initially but I doubt he does much in the majors.  Hopefully I'm not wrong about that.  As much as I want him to have some success down the line, he is now a Cub.

By the way sorry if someone else mentioned this here already but I couldn't find a post mentioning it.  Then again, I didn't really look too hard...

not cool

among other things, wishing injuries on players is a BCB move

Goodness we're touchy lately.

Do you really think that mob wanted to see Parisi’s arm detach at the shoulder in a spray of tendons and Kill Bill style blood.

it's the mob

they just paved over the lake where the sea battles were held. the beer – no longer theirs. the coliseum – long gone. even the man who kicks puppies has been sent to the frontiers.

they want blood.

it's your own fault for being so damn tasty

Every morning I wake up & smoke a dart. Then I eat five strips of bacon, & for lunch I eat a bacon sandwich. And for a midday snack? Bacon! A whole damn plate! And I usually drink my dinner. And I'm still here! Sometimes I wonder if God forgot about me.

I'm against that in general...

but I do have to say that if his arm were to detach and fall off, I hope it IS Kill Bill style.

It’s one of those “well, if it’s gonna happen…..” situations where you go big or don’t go at all.

well, in that case another cubbie should slip on the blood and go on the DL also.

I only suggest it

because there’s precedent

but no, i’m not into players getting injured. it only interests the GOB in our team…

i think the cubs just wrote the cards a check for $25K.

It’s hard to say that there are any long-term consequences to this. The likelihood is nil that parisi will find a role on a team that ran aaron heilman out of town. Heilman is much better than parisi.the cubs still retain better swing men like marshall.

i really like Marshall

i’m surprised he’s not found a full-time starting gig yet.

Main reason.

The cubs tied their own hands by having exactly zero lefites on their roster who were even in the same zip code as competent. Marshall (being a guy who is more than competent) was forced into a LHP relief role because he was all they had.

Of course, now they have Grabow (i think, right? or am I thinking of someone else from the Pirates they got with Gorzelaney?) so they at least have one lefty so I suppose that frees up Marshall to take over for Harden….?

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

yeah, they paid Grabow a stupid amount of money to be a so-so LOOGY set-up guy

I think he’s getting $4m a year or something. Of course, they then let Harden go instead of pay him less than twice that amount for far more potential production.

From a production stand point, I agree about Harden

but I think Lou had had enough of his prima dona act. They never knew if he’d be available and if they could count on him. Couple that with a down year (or rather inconsistent year) and I think they decided to just wash their hands of him.

From the outside, Harden is very attractive, but when you live in Chicago (as I do) and you hear the inside stuff relayed by reporters, you can understand there was more to it than numbers.

I don't begrudge Parisi

The Rule 5 Draft is working as intended. Mike was never going to make the big club, and this gives him a shot in the majors. I for one, wish him the best.
