Cardinal Top 20 (24 actually) by John Sickels
This will get bumped by the morning post but it's almost certain to generate some conversation . . . so go converse. Be that here, there or Future Redbirds.
I love prospect rankings.

Jason Motte
I like that he’s placed at 7. He was very effective in the few innings he pitched last year which was surprising to me because he only has one pitch. It seemed to me that he only got picked apart on his 85 mph “change-up”. If he develops a really sneaky off-speed pitch he can throw accurately he’ll be a lights out late reliever. Looking forward to seeing him in 09.
We need TheRedBaron to come up with a great nick-name for him however. I suggest Mottezilla.
What?
You don’t like Applesauce for Motte’s nickname? That one saw considerable use during game threads last season.
I’m higher on Freese and a little lower on Jay, but all around I like it. Glad to see Todd get some lovin’. Hoping he’ll get an invite to ST, pitch a full year in Memphis and take over for KMac in the pen in ’10.
One Century down, next on its way. Cardinals '09 : Preserving the Cubs tradition.

Pretty similar rankings and analysis as I gave in a post about 1 week ago...
Shares my sentiment on Jay being vastly underrated and Freese being slightly overrated. I personally think we have a glut of B- type guys including Freese, Garcia, Motte, and Anderson. I think all those guys are potential “regulars” even if it doesn’t happen in the Cardinals organization.
I agree
that Freese is being overrated, because he’s old for his league…but he did have a fantastic year last year. I was surprised about Jay’s ranking. Supposedly he’s a pretty good pure hitter. I’ve always heard that he wasn’t going to stick in center and didn’t have the power to play a corner. I guess we’ll see.
The ranking that worries me the most is Bryan Anderson. He plays such a premium position, defensively, that I think he should be ranked higher. Of course, Sickels knows more about him, and about this, than I do.
Freese has played in about as many games
as Allen Craig. While age is a factor, experience should be too.
I'll be the one overrating these Faberge' eggs, thank you very much!
