Community Prospect Rankings
Prospect list season is in full swing and having a Viva El Birdos list would be a nice addition to the many other list currently available.
Some of those existing list are Future Redbirds, Derrick Goold's Birdland and Scout.com's community List
Here are the first 10 prospects under consideration for the number 1 spot. If there's someone else you think deserves it, say so in the comments, otherwise, vote for who you think is number 1. Also, feel free to make a pitch for who you voted for, and maybe spark some discussion about the future of our beloved team in the offseason. Without further ado, the nominees for the Cardinals #1 prospect:

Who picked Kozma?
He’s a stretch to make my top 10!

It was me
while constructing the poll I simply clicked on a random name to ensure it was working. I had no idea it would make my vote count. I’m just as curious as to who picked Wallace, is it because he’s new and shiny, do they really like batting average as a measure of success, or is it they can not wait for his Bob Hamelin like ass ?

I'll put it up later today
This is, as expected pretty much a landslide. I’ll probably wait for john sickels to post his Cardinals list to have something new to link. At the few first positions there probably won’t be much disagreement, but as the list goes deeper the discussion will be more interesting and give us all something to clamor on about besides the nearly non-existent hot stove.

Oh...well that makes some sense.
My apologies.

It's because of his nickname
Walrus

i didnt vote for him but
his OB and Slug abilities would be a reason I would consider him…if Colby was a LF or RF I would take Wallace first probably…maybe…

this is a totally different format
the previous one was just our own opinions.
This one (and the ones that follow) will give us aggregate data, for lack of a better term, of the community.
Plus, it is gonna be fun.

I agree
The format makes this one a unique post. I’m more than okay with it.

that one's much better, no doubt
if only Crimsonbirdfan had put a poll in his, it would’ve been perfect and this would be totally redundant. As it is, I guess we can all vote in the poll.

It is a popular project for many of the SB nation blogs, obviously it’s a running series delving much deeper than the initial ten or so prospects that are quite regularly analyzed.
If you or the other admin believe it to redundant or meaningless, than I’ll be happy to abandon the project.

I hope you have the drive to take this
to the top 50 Cardinal prospects (at least!). This is going to be a helluva way to get ready for spring training. It might even get more people interested in the prospects.
It is popular on many other SBN blogs, why did it take you so long to think of it this offseason?!

Exactly
I’m just thinking that it might be more prudent to simply have everyone list their top 10, 20, or whatever in the same form that we do the community projections. Then whoever wants to do that post can tally the results. That would keep us from having a new fanpost for every single poll.
Just my $.02.

is it just me
of all of our prospects really old to be prospects?
Jon Jay is 24
Rasmus is getting too old so the Cards are bringing him up to the show after an off year in AAA.
Motte is in his late 20’s.
Freese is too will be 26.
It seems like our prospects are to old when you got guys like Zimmerman and Billingley who are already out of their rookie season that are younger than a lot of our prospects.
The average age of our AAA team is 24 (that came from the Redbirds roster on Milb.com which only had one infielder and 3 outfielders on our roster).

Rasmus is 22.
He’ll be bringing a walker to get aroung in CF.

Still
Getting kinda old for a prospect (i thought he was a little older)
by waino on Jan 4, 2009 12:47 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
actually he is very young for a prospect
it is rare for a prospect to get through a system at younger age.

How many times do we have 21 year olds in AAA
Before last year? I think the last one was Yadier.

Even though the Cardinals have been somewhat college centric with their drafting their are still quite a few who are relatively young for their level. Here are a few relative to their peers.
Richard Castillo, SP Born 10/11/1989 Ranked 11th youngest in the Mid-West League low a
Mark Diapoules, Born 5/31/1988 ranked 12th youngest In the Florida state league
Donovan Solano, Born 12/17/1987 ranked 10th youngest in the Texas League
Daryl Jones, Born 6/25/1987 ranked 15th youngest in the Texas league
Bryan Anderson 12/16/1986 4th youngest in PCL
Colby Rasmus 8/11/1986 11th youngest
Jaime Garcia 7/8/1986 12th youngest

How is Rasums too old at Twenty Flipping Two?
That’s still young. Just because Albert burst onto the scene about the same time he could begin to buy booze doesn’t mean all guys who don’t meet that standard aren’t prospects. 22 is still pretty daggone young.

I had him projected as being better than Griffey Jr and A-Rod.
He has already let me down. Trade the jerk.

Just a Head's Up
But Minor League Ball here at SB Nation does the top 20 prospects of every organization and the next one up is the Cardinals. I wasn’t sure if everyone knew this or not but it is usually done very well and should be very interesting. It should be up by tomorrow so just giving everyone noitce so that they can go over there, check it out, and give their input.

Dave, a suggestion
This can be a fun activity, but you might consider providing some parameters to this little exercise. Some people pick people based on potential, others based on value, others based on closeness to the big leagues. Some people use a variety of factors. If you’d like to make a suggested approach for the community, it might help structure this a bit. Goold ran into this problem with his list as well, I believe.
Rasmus will be a no-brainer, as will Wallace at #2, but after that, things will get a bit stickier. Just a thought.
