Community Prospect List #4
Somehow Jason Motte took 62% of the vote for the number three spot.
1. Colby Rasmus
2. Brett Wallace
3. Jason Motte
There's been a lot of good discusions about prospects over the last few days at various sites but unfortunately I don't have time to track down and link.
Here are the next ten candidates. If there's someone else you think deserves it, say so in the comments, otherwise, vote for who you think is number 4. Also, feel free to make a pitch for who you voted for, and maybe spark some discussion about the future of our beloved team in the off season. Without further ado, the nominees for the Cardinals #4 prospect:

Well
Somehow Perez is both my #3 and my #4 and I will never vote for Motte. Funny how things work out.

I think Perez is a better prospect than Motte at this point, but whatareyougonnado?

I, too, am voting for Perez for the second time
I’d vote for Motte, but at #3? Jeez, I think we’re a little Motte-happy around here.
Sure, he was dominant when he was up. Sure, I’m excited about him. But damn, the guy had a 3.24 ERA at AAA last year with a not-all-that-impressive 1.35 WHIP. He’s exciting and electric, but I’m not really expecting anything better than a 3.50-4.00 ERA.
Unless he develops a nasty slider or changeup or something. In that case, he’ll pass Perez for my #3 vote, obviously. Until then, I’m gonna go ahead and say we’re getting a little too invested in 11 major league innings here.

I was also screwed out of voting for motte....
but I had him around # 6 or 7. Perez is my 3 and 4

We are awfully Motte happy
but I would’ve picked him at #4 anyway. Part of that is because I’m rating guys higher who are closer to the majors in most cases, but also because Motte was dominant last year. His AAA ERA came with a 2.29 FIP and then he had a 14.85 K/9 and a 3.51 BB/9. I just think that Perez will develop into the better pitcher (younger, has 2 pitches).

Same here
Perez is 23 and has more potential than Motte in my opinion. Motte is only 2 years younger than Pujols. That is getting up there for just being a prospect. I think that Perez will give us much more over the years and will improve and develop more than Motte.

I voted Jones
bc I really dont consider Perez a “prospect”. He’s a lock to be a late inning guy already and possibly the closer.

I voted for David Freese
just for the hell of it

Is it just me
or is D Jones being over-hyped?

I agree
He has the potential to be a special player, and he’s still young. But, he’s only had one great year split between High A and AA in ‘08. He’ll need to establish himself over the course of the entire season in Springfield in ‘09 (including a possible callup to AAA) before I’ll consider him a top 10 prospect.

That all being said
I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do in Springfield this summer

He’s the next Grady Sizemore!

I don't know what you're talking about Sabean,
that .399 BABIP in high A is completely sustainable!

Hell I'd sweeten the pot for him
Tell him Piniero is the next Cliff Lee and throw him in for Lincecum. Lee and Sizemore for Lincecum, I think he’d take that.

no
i dont think he is being overhyped. he has a boat load of tools. always has. its not like he just appeared out of nowhere. the jump from A to AA is a considerable leap, and he has passed the test so far. while it was just 124 at bats, his AA performance was on par with his A numbers. he is still young (22 next season). he has a lot going for him. while he has some question marks, so do the rest of guys…todd, freese, garcia, motte, anderson, etc. i think anywhere between 4 and 6 is an entirely appropriate ranking for jones.

I'm not trying to say that he's a bad player
But it looks like he will be voted #5. His high A numbers came with a .399(!) BABIP and his AA (small sample size) numbers came with a .341 BABIP. He’s young, and maybe his power will develop later, but he’s going to have to improve on his breakout season last year before I will rank him #5 in organization. That being said, he should be fun to watch in Springfield.
