Shame on the Cardinals
for not winning on Monday and making my prediction of us sweeping the DBacks and Cubs/Brewers losing their series.
Oh well, I’ll let it slide as long as you win today.
Anyone read what Colby's dad said
I am not optimistic at this point in time that Colby will ever be cemented into a lineup in St. Louis because he just hit .250 in AAA, which is not very good by the way. I have posted my thoughts numerous times that I think the current group of outfielders are really good baseball players and that those players could be in St. Louis for many years blocking Colby from ever playing in St. Louis. They are better than he is right now and may continue to be in the years to come but for Colby to dislodge any one of them(and Skip is the only one who can be dislodged) he will have to play above his head IMO because TLR will never put him in the lineup if he is not way better than what is already there.
Look at who’s in St. Louis and who’s on the way. Daryl Jones, Jay, Robinson, Wallace, Freese, Craig are all going to be playing OF next year. I still believe Colby is the best trade chip that can be traded so I still think the odds are Colby is traded if TLR stays.
But your post was infering that Colby would not be signing a long term contract with St. Louis because he was mad with the organization. Well he never told me he was mad with anybody but himself. I get the impression he was indecisive on many things he did this year and unsure of himself. I think he finally understands what he needs to do and will not be swayed from what he believes he needs to do to be ready to hit in AAA. He does not believe he has a chance to make the team out of Spring training(geez, finally) and knows he will have to prove himself in AAA if he is ever to touch foot in the big leagues. This is a major upgrade in his thinking process IMO because he thought Spring training numbers would dictate his making the team this year and he never had a chance. He understands this now, which is good. This way he can focus on hitting in AAA and not worry about Spring training next year, heck, I wish they wouldn’t even let him in big league camp, until he earned it.

I like the last line, a subtle dig at a certain manager.
Isn't there a saying of some sort.
Something like, “these things have a way of working themselves out.”

Right
Right now we have 4 injuried outfielders. And yeah, if Colby hit better than Stav or Mather in AAA he would have been up. But he got hurt as he was getting better. Sucks but it happens. As far as Rasmus’s chances of making the team out of spring training next year; they are going to be much better than they were this year; but it all depends on who is on the Roster and who is hurt.
I think the team did him a diservice by allowing him to continue to play with the big club after he was informed he would be starting in AAA. They should have sent him to AAA camp as soon as they informed him of it.
"Look at who’s in St. Louis and who’s on the way. Daryl Jones, Jay, Robinson, Wallace, Freese, Craig are all going to be playing OF next year."
Hmmm. Am I missing something here?
I sure wish I had a dad who liked to talk about me and my thought process on the interwebs as much as Colby’s dad does.
In the world I see--you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying strips of venison on the empty carpool lane of some abandoned superhighway.
so is Freese and Craig
All of a sudden, we have a glaring hole at 3rd base in the organization!!!

Craig played LF
after returning from the DL while Wallace played 3B at Springfield.
by Hardcore Legend on Sep 3, 2008 3:24 PM EDT up reply actions
Wallace and Craig will probably spend time in the OF
so that they can give themselves a better chance of making the roster, rather than be tied down to 1 position.
Freese, Craig and Wallace are all 3B prospects that the club is high on and they are probably going to have to either be traded or see position changes.
He’s not saying those players are all going to be in St. Louis next year, but they are all probably ready for MLB play either midway through next year (for some) or midway through 2010 (for others).
There is a logjam and the logjam starts with Skippy mashing this year and two near 30 OF’ers that will likely be signed to 5 year deals or so.
by Hardcore Legend on Sep 3, 2008 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions
but Freese and Craig aren't going to be starting outfielders
at best, they’re either 3rd basemen, 1st basemen, 2nd basemen or utility players. Why would the organization move Rasmus to make room for utility players?

Why are you parsing the sentence like that?
Right now:
Skippy
Ankiel
Ludwick
Soon:
Robinson
Jay
Jones
3B that atleast 1 will need to change positions:
Wallace
Freese
Craig
Those lists also ignore Chris Duncan (arby eligible) and Joe Mather (who has looked good this year).
His point is that the Cardinals are high on everyone BUT Colby Rasmus, a guy they don’t think has earned playing time. He is also their best trading chip. So, in the best interest of both parties, they could move Colby to fill other needs since the OF won’t be one (in his opinion).
by Hardcore Legend on Sep 3, 2008 3:30 PM EDT up reply actions
Okay, so let me ask this question
who would you trade him for? Obviously either a middle infielder or a starting pitcher, right?
Btw, I don’t know how they aren’t high on him. He made AAA as a 21 year old. Isn’t that some sort of show of confidence?

What a douche.
I’ve seen star players that have dads like this, and it rarely works out for the best.
Colby, tell your dad to shut his trap and let you play baseball.
agreed, if it is his dad or some jackass posting as his dad......
They need to shut the F-up and make Colby proove it…..
Cry me a F’ing river you r 21 and the org obviously likes you. What a douche bag
+1
Mind you, this is all being said just a few months after the dad’s scout.com account was supposedly hijacked by one of the younger rasmusses (who happened to write exactly like the dad), after which he was apparently chewed out by STL organization. He proceeded to edit out all his negative comments and promised to go away and not post anything else regarding Colby or Cory.
So I guess he’s back?
the ******* plane has crashed into the mountain.
Colby's Dad = Helicopter Parent?
Does Colby’s dad not realize that the internet is a public thing? That anyone can read his postings? That these types of postings are likely getting back to the organization?
He is going to give Colby a label of “difficult” that will follow him from team to team.
I know the parents of other Cardinals prospects and while they aren’t always happy with how their kids are handled, they don’t express it anywhere.
I too wonder whether this is actually Colby’s dad given how unwise this is.
PJ Walter's dad used to post on that forum too
but IIRC he’never wrote the kinds of things that Colby’s dad writes about his kid.
the ******* plane has crashed into the mountain.
Perhaps he sees this as an opportunity
to exploit LaRussa’s heightened confidence in Skippy, Rick and Ludwick …to go along with his devotion to Chris as a chance to get his son out of the organization.
by Hardcore Legend on Sep 3, 2008 4:17 PM EDT up reply actions
I think the best thing for Colby Rasmus right now
would be to have his dad butt out of the picture. it’s like he’s treating his son like a way to make a bunch of money, a “trading chip” if you will
it's time to bring the rock!!!!!!!
by Cards Fan in Chitown on Sep 3, 2008 4:24 PM EDT up reply actions
I really wish he'd shut his mouth sometimes
he’s really making himself out to be a disgruntled idiot. what business does a players’ dad have airing his grievances on a message board, anyway? I appreciate the access, but he’s not making things easier on his son.
Amaury translates into "Punisher of Spheroids" in the lost tongue of Atlantis. Marti means "Belgian Waffle." www.futureredbirds.net
I don't get that reading in the last line
Sounds to me like he’s in agreement with Tony on this one. Sounds like he thinks that Razzle getting knocked down a peg is the best thing that could happen to him.
But I agree with a lot of people here in that he should probably keep these thoughts to himself. Let Colby do the talking, either through the press or with his bat this winter.
Brian Barden

So, there’s that.

Give TLR a little credit.....

if they could just run a rotation in front of Albert

Maybe not.
I still see more bad coming from signing him, than good. And if that wasn’t the case, some team would have taken a chance on him.
Exactly.
The bad far outweighs the good imo. I’ve been having this debate with my boss all summer. He swears collusion, I say no way, and it doesn’t even have anything to do with PEDs. All about bad baggage.

sure
I mean, the media picks thier fall guys. They say it was because they expected him in jail by this time. We he isn’t. I think a line up of Glaus-Pujols-Bonds-Ludwick-Ankiel would scare any pitcher half to death.
Think of this lineup to start a game
Glaus
Ankiel
Pujols
Bonds
Ludwick
R-L-R-L-R. LaRussa would be drooling on himself over that!
by Hardcore Legend on Sep 3, 2008 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions
that, or
imagine having bonds in the dugout every night to pinch hit. Take one 7th or 8th inning PA away from Kennedy/iz2/miles and give it to Bonds, 150 or so high-leverage PA’s per year, and you’re talking a pretty big advantage.
He even could be like Izzy and not even bother to show up until the 6th inning or so, then leave right after he hits.

So have Molina and Lopez.
No point. No supporting statement. Just happy to see multiple guys striking the ball far on consecutive days.
I once shot a man just to see him die...then I got distracted and missed it.
Uh.....
Those guys were slumping in recent weeks. So yea, I have a point, and a supporting statement.
I was saying I have no point and no supporting statement.
I wasn’t arguing with you at all. I do like the two-spot as the slump buster. Go Glaus. He likey the two-spot.

OT: For those that still live in STL.
I have to watch the games via Extra Innings here in Miami, and never get to see the post-game because they turn the broadcast off the very millisecond of the final out.
I used to enjoy the player interviews and such, and was wondering if anyone has heard any of the starters showing some Yadi love like Wainwright did in the paper earlier this year. I’m a big Molina fan, and read about the praise that Adam gave him. Has there been anything similar from say Lohse or Wellemeyer?
The Colonel and Pineiro
Have both given Yadi some love in the post game. I dont always watch it. (really, Im lucky I get the big screen when to watch the game. I normally get banish to the bedroom to listen to people “just talk about baseball.”) So it wouldn’t surprise me to hear other guys talk about the job Yadi does.
I'm pretty sure
a bunch of the young pitchers have talked about “just throwing what Yadi tells them” which, if my memory serves correct and this is true, is a very good thing, IMO

I anticipate me being very angry if Colby doesn’t make the team out of Spring Training. I can handle him as a bench player but he needs to be in the bigs. Heck, Longoria was hitting .200 when the Rays called him up from AAA this season for all the complaining about Colby’s season that goes on here. Rasmus is really in about the same prospect class that Longoria was.

Did you see a viable second pitcher there?
I sure didn’t. He has no command of the slider/change/splitter/cutter or whatever it is. It’s up in the zone at a hittable speed (90mph) with no break. That’s why he was in Memphis.
His fastball is great but for all intents and purposes that’s all he has.
I still disagree
A 90 mph pitch that moves any amount (like I said PITCHf/x had it at 1.5 inches horizontal then 2.6 which is pretty good) is going to be tough to hit.

You concede the tying run
by coming in. How many weakly hit ground balls are given up by a guy throwing 97 mph?
Tony loves to do this with the infield in close/late situations and I doubt it works more than 10% of the time.
And today, it put the winning run at 1B with 1 out, instead of a tie game with 2 outs.
by Hardcore Legend on Sep 3, 2008 8:20 PM EDT up reply actions
no
you concede the tying run by playing back and giving yourself no shot at throwing the runner out at home.
That's traditional thinking
but physics wise, the only way you can make a throw home is if the ball is hit directly at you when playing in.
If you play ‘medium’ depth, meaning in the baselines or a step behind them, you give yourself a better chance of actually making a play and getting atleast 1 out, at home or at 1B.
This ‘charging home plate’ stuff from the SS and 2B reduces their real chances of actually making a play.
by Hardcore Legend on Sep 3, 2008 11:44 PM EDT up reply actions
Well, that's your opinion
and I, as well as a whole bunch of people, disagree. I don’t know how to refute your 10% claim, so I won’t.
I can say that an out at first base in that situation really doesn’t interest me much, because you’ve just allowed the game to be tied. I guess it comes down to a different philosophy.
In the world I see--you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. It's the difference in playing to win
and playing not to lose.
I think in situations like that, they needed to try and avoid a loss as much as possible. A runner at 3rd with 1 out scores a lot more often than a hitter standing at home with 2 outs.
I think they needed to ignore the runner at 3rd and focus on getting out of the inning without losing.
Again, we disagree.
