The Official Thank You Post

There are very few sites that I actually visit every day: my email, a couple random online places, and VivaElBirdos. It's easy to take this place for granted, but I think every once in a while we have to remember just how wonderful it is to have a free resource that provides as incredible insight as VEB does on a daily basis.

With the season coming to an end today, I think now is a good time to say thanks before launching into the Redbird-less postseason and then what promises to be, at a minimum, an interesting offseason. So here we go.

First, I'd like to say thank you to all the site's contributors -- you people. The users and their insightful comments and FanPosts make this place worth visiting. Without your cynicism, your geekiness, your wonderful humor, and your fantastic ability to generate nicknames, VEB would be only a fraction as entertaining as it is.

Thanks also to all of the front-page writers: houstoncardinal, azruavatar, and the red baron. Each of you is amazing in your own right. The personality you bring to your posts gives this place variety, and, as they say, variety is the spice of sports blogs. The dedication you show to writing for our benefit is astounding -- you never miss a day. Each of you are fantastic wordsmiths and insightful Cardinals fans. You are the gears that run the VEB machine. We loves ya.

And, of course, to our perpetually overworked king, lboros. One can't thank you enough even for setting this place in motion, and your unrivaled dedication to the site deserves even more accolades. We are all endebted to your wonderful work as we continue to enjoy this site every single day.  Not to mention that your writing on the Cardinals puts the press to shame. Throw in your willingness to research details and your knowledge of Cardinals lore...plus the careful and considered yet stern approach you take to moderating the site. We owe it all to you and here's hoping for many years of Cards success secretly bolstered by Mo reading your ideas here on VEB. Thanks again!

Anyway, here's to the continued success of the best Cards blog on the web and hopefully a healthy and playoff-bound 2009 for the Cards! Cheers and thanks!

Here, here!

Good on ya, mojo! Agree on all points.

Thanks, Mojo

for the kind words. I’d like to second, particularly, your thanks to all the members who show up everyday, read, and take the time to post their thoughts. LB puts great stuff out there every day but the contributors help make this site one of the best baseball blogs out there. No one would know how good LB’s stuff is if hundreds of people didn’t show up here everyday and contribute.

I’d also like to second your kind words about LB’s contributions to the site. His contributions have involved a lot of research and thought. He creates thought provoking threads that enable all of us to contribute so regularly. In general, he fosters a tremendous environment for all of us to share our thoughts, debate — w/o becoming too argumentative, and feel like we are all important pieces to the success of VEB.

I joined VEB more than 2 1/2 years ago and it’s usually the first thing I read every day. Even if I don’t have time to post or participate in the conversation, I read VEB every day. If I go on vacation and can’t read, I read all of them when I get back. There just aren’t many sites on the internet better than this one, and it’s b/c of LB and the environment he’s helped create.

Thanks gents

[generic announcer voice]

It was a terrific season all around; for the franchise, for the city, and most of all, for the fans. We hope next year, the team’s production on the field can again rival their coverage online. But until then, the Saint Louis Cardinals, and Viva El Birdos, will remain number one… [tilts head] in our hearts.

This is Alex Fritz live in south city. Back to you, Deanne.

Great post mojo

All I have to add is a thanks to all of you for making the great games a little better, and the terrible ones at least tolerable ( I am looking at you T.E.S.S.). We may not always agree , but even when we don’t , it still is always fun.

So for all that helped make it yet another great baseball season, I raise my franklin to you, and hope for more of the same next year.

I also wanna raise a franklin to the one(s) who came up with the term franklin. It was definitely one of my top moments of this season.

+1

This is a great site that I check at least a few times each day. I am so impressed that each of you can come up with an interesting topic each day to discuss. I wish I could do that!

oops

I read that “significant lack of signings”, not “signings/lack of signings”. I hope its the former of the latter, and not the former… of the former?

Anywho, Bravo Zulu’s all around to everyone who makes this site what it is. Thanks lb for all youve done. Im lookin forward to the offseason, and more importantly, next season.

Also, I plan on making my first trip down to ST since I was a kid come spring. I’ll put up a fanpost when I figure out arrangements if yall would be interested in meeting up down there.

C'mon you Redbirds, lets prove em' wrong, again!

Yes indeed

Thank you so much. I enjoy the articles. Well, thought out and well-written. And as far as I can tell, you all have real day jobs also!!! This is my favorite Cardinal site. Enjoy the off season. Can’t wait for more Cardinal news.

Very well said, mojo.

I will add my thanks as well. This site is awesome! Why? Because of high quality writing, in-depth info and analysis, and all the great people who hang out here every day.

Thanks a bunch, lb, for starting and maintaining the site. We all realize that you put a tremendous amount of time and effort into this place, but we don’t often thank you. So… thank you!

Thank you as well, azruavatar, houstoncardinal, and red baron, for your valuable contributions to the excellence found here.

Thanks everybody!

I never would have dreamt that when I joined this site in March that it would be one of the highlights of a fantastic baseball season. I appreciate the varied and thoughtful perspectives and viewpoints from all the amazing Cards fans on a daily basis. I will miss the regularity of an interesting season, and reading interesting analysis, both by the regular writers and the plethora of interesting fans and personalities (let wcbw come back!). It’s nice to have opinions both from diehard fans and the more analytical thinkers. We’re lucky to have such a great, competitive team to root for and to have the best fanbase in sports! Thanks for maintaining a very high quality site, LB! And now we have to wait for another wonderful, potentially more exciting season on the horizon.

nice post

i’ll ditto on the interesting posters/personalities that help make this such a great site. i’ve always wondered…
where did westcoastbirdwatcher go anyway? i miss the interesting perspective, even if it seems fueled by paranoid schizophrenia at times.
is azruavatar really a robot? can he feel pain? can he cry? could he beat kasparov at chess?
is the MooCow really john MOOOOzeliak in disguise? think about it. we all know MO reads the site. the goofy screen name and impressive devotion to his persona might just be meant to throw us all off the trail. he wouldn’t want to make it obvious after all. (for the record i’ve always like the Cow)
is Hardcore Legend really a calm, nice guy in real life?

wcbw got banned

I guess he knew Kyle Lohse and was mad that they didn’t work out a deal right away. lboros thought he had some kind of agenda, which I think was clear that he did, so he got banned. maybe now that Lohse is signed though, he can be back

wow. i had no idea it was that scandalous.

but this is good for my conspiracy theorizing; maybe wcbw is actually scott boras.

Thanks as always

I pretty much stopped posting in the last few months, but the content and the community continues to make this a daily read. This is the definitive site for Cardinals’ thinking, imo, and manages to be so without too much of a “groupthink.” Props to all authors and editors.
