People revert to mean by doing better, not always the other way. Lopez was worse than career norms for most of the year, after his recent hot streak with the Cardinals, he’s now right around them.

Does that mean he was fixed when he came to the Cardinals? No, it just means things are evening out for him. Would he have done it in Wash? Who knows, but probably….

yeah, but we're either going to have to totally tank

or a couple teams will have to excel. DET, CLE, ARI and TEX are all 6-8 games worse than us, and we’ll have to be worse than at least one of them to be #15. And that was before tonight- CLE lost 2 games today and TEX lost one, ARI is losing, etc. We’ll also have to be worse than the dodgers, yankees, and marlins, though they are only 3 games worse than us now.

Best case might be a 2 or 3 way tie for 15…

So is Chipper really hurt or is he not playing so he can win the batting title?

I see he didn’t play in their double header today. I know Chipper is pretty banged up, but it will seem kind of weak to me if he barely plays the rest of the season so he keep his average above Albert’s. Albert needs to get a few more 3-4 days soon to stay pace. Put a little pressure on ol’ Chipper.

I did not mind that hit and run call....

It’s not like you sit there and let Brendan Ryan try to hit an extra base hit in that situation. Brendan Ryan is horrible offensively and the Cards were hit less for like 6 innings at that point. Something had to be done.

you can blame it on me

i left after the 11th to go see nightwish/sonata arctica.

nightwish brought new meaning to the term “value over replacement vocalist”… tarja, where art thou? I left in the concert equivalent of the 4th inning; the new nightwish singer was so bad that the though at least SA was good.

Was nice, getting the text message letting me know the pirates won again. At this point it isn’t even painful, just kind of funny.

Take away any teams two best SP’s, starting 3B, two of their top 4 OF’s, and their starting C for awhile, and you’d see that it’s not easy to win that way.

by SoonerfanTU on Sep 14, 2008 10:22 AM EDT up reply actions

Yadi's been gone for 4 days

Glaus for even less.

Don’t try to put it all off on injuries that happened in a week.

Carpenter was never here this year. Wainwright was gone for a good chunk of the season, I’ll grant you that.

It was Tony’s choice to play Rick Ankiel hurt. Who was the other of the Top 4 OF’ers that was taken away?

by Hardcore Legend on Sep 14, 2008 12:08 PM EDT up reply actions

And we've been in the playoff RACE.....

Up until the last week or so. If I had said that at the beginning of the year, you’d have taken it.

Carp was expected back. Not getting him back is a bad as losing someone we already had.

Tony’s choice? I’m sure he had advice from a doctor. It’s just a weird injury, that hasn’t gotten better. It should have. It didn’t. That happens.

I’d argue that Mather is our 4th best OF the 2nd half of the season, and if not, I could definitely argue that it would have been Duncan had he been healthy. So actually, I can argue that we lost 3 of our top 5 OF’s.
