Game 119 Overflow
Nice job of getting to Big Z a bit early on, guys. Looks like the wind may be blowing out a bit, though, so we need to keep it up.

Hmm
If we can light up Cardinal Killer Zambrano to the tune of 9 runs in 5 innings, I don’t think that summer is necessarily over (per the post today).
There’s a lot of baseball left. We get the WC, there is an EPIC Cubs/Cards NLCS.
"Jimmy told me, 'If you keep it right there at two runs and no more, we'll win this game,'" Wainwright said. "'Me and Albert will get the job done."

by Red in Chicago on Aug 9, 2008 5:47 PM EDT up reply actions
I remember a part of a season
when Flood had to patrol CF with Musial and Minnie Minoso on the two corners.
Didn’t last long , but it’s a wonder Flood survived it.
why would you waste a bat with pop off the bench...

It might be a little soon, but I think he’s back to his May form.

coming into thread after game is half over
it’s cool to come into the thread after half the game, and reading the posts about the lineup, lopez, glaus at 6th, etc.
maybe it’s luck, or maybe, just maybe tlr isn’t a total moron?
we still have a lot of games against the scrubs, and it ain’t over till it’s over
A man's got to know his limitations
He's not a moron, total or otherwise
He just does things that madden everyone. On balance, he’s still a pretty good asset for the team.
by Red in Chicago on Aug 9, 2008 5:53 PM EDT up reply actions
but
if you read the thread, b4 the game started , the usual folks were red azzed about lopez 5th, glaus 6th, and no ankiel,
just seems we can be positive till the game starts!
A man's got to know his limitations
Well that's just a good example
of what maddens people. But Lopez actually hits well against Zambrano, so that’s not such a big deal. There’s a certain amount of randomness in everything. When Tony makes serially inexplicable decisions and the random breaks go the wrong way, then people despair. It’s just human nature.

thats why
red baron’s post this morning was not a very good one because its not nearly close to being over. everyone needed to see a game like to remember how decent this team is
It was a good articulation about the way that some are feeling
if people are honest, respectful, and rational and communicate well, then it’s going to be a good post.

right
it’s all right to disagree with the thrust, and not feel like the season’s in trouble, or to just be excited about the players, or any myriad of things (I tend to do all of this), but that doesn’t make rb’s post irresponsible, or bad, or something.
They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...

So TLR can see what he can do
7 run lead, two out, no one on, let him swing and see how he handles a lefty. Need to know for the next situation.

seems he should still be the primary back-up if carp has trouble. anyone, even izzy, could handle this
If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, perhaps you haven't grasped the situation!
he's a sinkerballer and hasn't worked in a while
maybe they want him a little tired in the game that matters
They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...
He will not blow a nine-run lead, either.
I don’t know if that can be said for some of our other bullpenners.

His sinker
has looked pretty good lately…seems a reasonable call by Tony. Keep the ball on the ground.

Just showed the bullpen
and I didn’t see Izzy. Is he even with the team? I thought for sure he’d pitch the 9th…
hmmmmmmmmmmmm
THE SKIP IS LEGIT!!
Seriously... what were Rich Harden's parents thinking?!?!?!
Izzy doesn't come out unless needed
in Pittsburgh, I sat near the bullpen and he didn’t come out to watch the game until the 7th inning.

way to go out on that bullpen limb

Destroying Zambrano in Game 7 of the NLCS, perhaps?

and that's a winner
Let’s get ‘em tomorrow!

Paying on past performances
happens alot unfortunately. Lopez still gets decent sized contracts based upon those years he had with Cinci. But the guy is still only 28, and there is potential there. Lets just hope he somehow reverts back to his near cinci numbers with us.

fantastic win boys
seriously that was a fantastic win.
i can’t tell you enough how proud i am of you that you came back & won in that fashion after what happened yesterday afternoon.
this was a great all around game. kudos to every one for a job well done.

And I like our chances with Carp vs. Harden tomorrow
We could walk away from this series with a gained game on the Flubs.

When the time comes for me to not be bothered by losing that is when I know it is time to retire my fandom

Oddly enough, when i read this morning's post, it gave me MORE hope.
It seems like all year, everyone has been saying how it’s been a great ride so far, but now it’s time for the cards to fall back down to earth…BUT THEY HAVEN’T. I don’t know how many times that type of thing has been posted here, and just to spite us, they keep on winning. Now, it actually seems like they have a great shot to make the playoffs with pu, glaus, and luddy hot at the same time and carpenter back, I hope they do listen to stuff like RB posted this morning and keep thinking they’re underdogs and keep proving everyone wrong!
Fox trivia question
The question they asked today was a bit misleading. When they were saying it on the air, they kept saying, “Who was the last Cub to lead NL rookies in hits?” The correct answer for that is Jerome Walton and the question was rather pertinent to Fukudome leading all rookies in hits.
But the question that was on the screen was, “Who was the last Cubs rookie to lead the NL in hits?” (the last NL hits leader who was both a Cub & a rookie) 1.5 million internet dollars to the first person who can answer correctly
That said, the Cubs do deserve my pity, but never my support.

Man, he would be idolized in Cardinal nation today, from St. Louis and small/gritty.

Yesterday
I was so ticked at the outcome I felt I knew would happen. The i got an email from my cousin whose husband is a cub fan.(he’s a nice guy though) He’s going in to have hus heart looked at(hes like 39-40) may have to have open heart not sure yet…so that put it all in prospective for me.
Being on the west coast I got angels Yanks so i wsa surprised when I kept seeing the score on my XM.. and even better they kept it.
Things mentioned b4 the game- AP not big vs cubbies, get to big Z early and Glaus needs to do something…funny how things work.
I can't believe i gave up a homerun to that punch and judy hitter-major league 2
Life is good........
Cards crush the Cubs.

had his test and everything is fine…no blockage or anything..althugh today couldn’t have been good for his heart..jk

Good feelings
I’m from Omaha, NE and took my son out to Chicago to watch the game – our first time in Chicago… this game was more than I could have hoped for. My son is 7 and he’s going nuts… and so am I in getting to see him develop the same love for this Cardinal team I have. What a great day -
Thanks Cards fans – especially the guy who sat one row in back of me and bought me a beer just because I was also rooting for our team.
Lebron James has to be the worst
interview. I have watched over and over his interviews for olympics..he does terrible. I guess it’s hard when you can’t just talk about you forever.
I can't believe i gave up a homerun to that punch and judy hitter-major league 2
Michael Jordan school of interviews
“Just tried to get a good shot.”
“they played great. We just had to play harder.”
etc. etc. etc.
He’s actually usually pretty talkative wehn they grab him after the game. maybe it’s an adrenalin thing.
i have seen his clevland after game ones those arent too bad
this hes trying to hype everything up and not talk about himself…Tom. game this will be the most watched game ever..they are big we are big etc…im not alebron or kobe fan…at least lebron doesnt do that lip thing Kobe does it’s so irritating..
I can't believe i gave up a homerun to that punch and judy hitter-major league 2
So yeah, I totally went to a wedding today
didn’t get to see the game but did get a 1964 World Series Champion Dick Groat autographed baseball from a close friend of his. That was pretty awesome.

You missed a good one
It was about time we knocked Zambrano on his duff. Getting that monkey that was Big Z off the Card’s back sure feels good.
Although I will say this for Zambrano…considering he had maybe the worst game of his career today..he didn’t seem to be too bothered by it in the dugout after he was taken out of the game. Looked pretty mellow. Of course he could have gone in the clubhouse and took a bat to a tv when the cameras weren’t around…..
