Cards Game Tomorrow 7/8
This is my first fanpost so sorry if I screw anything up.
Anyways I was going to the Cards-Cubs games this weened in Chicago and was just wondering what I should do/see while there in Chicago. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
Any bars or places I should visit would be great. I do like seeing historic sites and such. Someone told me to go to Navy Pier. Just anything useful would be helpful.
Thanks, Kenny

cool stuff to do
I’m not sure if Navy Pier is mandatory… although if you do, it would be neat to also rent some bikes or one of those multi-person bike things and go up and down the lake trail, it is really a sight to behold. there are architecture tours by boat too, that would be pretty cool to go up and down the Chicago River to check out the buildings. if you are in Wrigleyville for the game and looking for a bar to check out in that area, the Gingerman is really a cool place. click on my pic if you want to email me about more in depth coverage on Chitown

Hancock Tower...
Awesome observatory. I think its like 12 bucks and the elevator get you to the top in like 20 seconds or something absurd like that. Makes your ears pop.

Skip Navy Pier
Just a shopping mall on the lake. Millennium Park is bright and shiny and more fun. I can spend hours just sitting around watching little kids go nuts at Crown Fountain.

I think we are staying about 10 min from wrigley, not sure what direction.
The GF set everything up, I love italian and the girlfriend likes seafood. Cost doesn’t really matter. Just want to have some good food that’s memorable. Something with atmosphere?

There's a place called Leona's on Sheffield
It’s not as good as it used to be, but it’s a mass quantity of food. It’s Italian, though somewhat Americanized. They should still have a good shrimp platter.
Also get a quick meal at one of the outdoor places around Wrigley. Then pretend you aren’t staring at the 10,000 attractive women who live in the area and refuse to cover up when they dress.
If this is your first time in Chicago, seek out deep dish pizza. I don’t know of any good places in Wrigleyville, but ask around. Ask a hotel person or the person you’re renting from. Wrigleyville has about everything.
If you have time, look up the “architectural tour” that goes by boat along the Chicago river. It’s very good. Nice thing to do during during a morning or afternoon. Everyone we take on the tour loves it.

Duke of Perth
About a mile or 2 south on Clark St. from Wrigley. Good beer and all-you-can-eat fish and chips on Friday nights. Rock!

Chicago restaurants and stuff
Terragusto is Italian, has great food. It is a little BYOB neighborhood place, with very good homemade pasta and family-style Italian service. My Italian friend says that it is the closest thing to Italy she’s had here in the States. It is on West Addison, a good walk or a short cab ride from Wrigley. You would probably need a reservation, though.
In Logan Square, Lula Cafe has awesome food – lots of good local produced – and is a very chill, hipster atmosphere with funky art on the walls. Good brunch, but it gets crowded quickly.
Sepia, downtown near the train stations is really, really good. Also very hip.
In Lincoln Park, L2O is a new very upscale (think tasting menus) seafood place that is getting good reviews.
On West Randolph Street, also just west of downtown, there is a fun place called Avec. Communal tables. Small plates. Great charchuterie (sp??)
Graham Elliot is new and exciting. Lots of fun twists on traditional food.
Across the street fom Milliennium Park is a great place called The Gage, which is an Irishman’s upscale take on the British gastro-pub craze. Get the Scotch Egg. If you’re there for lunch, the steak sandwich is amazing.
North Pond is in Lincoln Park, and a beautiful Arts and Crafts style room—loads of atmopshere. The view is of a pond (duh) and lots of trees with the city skyline in the background. One of my favorite views in the city. The food is pretty darn good, but pricey.
This weekend (Saturday and Sunday) is the North Halstead Market Days street fest—Halstead between Belmont and Addison. It is the Boys Town street fair, and there is a lot of fun people watching. Straight people have fun there too!
Navy Pier is fun for children, but I find it to be a nightmare and avoid at all costs unless there is a movie that I must see in IMAX. If you go to the Hancock, skip the Observation Deck. Take the elevator to the 96th floor bar, and spend your $8 on a drink, and enjoy the view too.
The weather is supposed to be beautiful this weekend. Take a walk along the lake front!
Bucktown/Wicker Park has a lot of interesting places along Milwaukee and Damen, North and South of North Ave. There is a new bar called the Violet Hour that is supposed to Do Cocktails Properly. But I haven’t tried that out yet.
Have a wonderful time. Go Cardinals!!

also West Fest is happening
on Chicago Ave. between Damen and Wood… live bands along with a DJ stage. although the only thing I’d want to see is the Meat Puppets on Sunday night.

Depends on what you want....
Location? Price range? Amenities that you must have?

How has nobody mentioned The Billy Goat as a place to eat?
It’s right by Wrigley, too (one of them is, anyway). Great burgers.

not a big fan
their burgers aren’t anything compared to Kuma’s Corner, Miller’s Pub, Moody’s, etc. etc. imo
