Game 116 Overflow 2

Probably getting to be about the late innings now, eh? This should be fascinating...

Or, Jo-El blew it and we're down by six. Either way.

So, um

What the hell is going on? Can we play baseball now?

Wainwright is officially the closer

By Perez pitching the 8th, that means Izzy/Franklin will be the closer tonight.

That means they are keeping the seat warm for Wainwright, who will be pitching Friday in Memphis.

I’d imagine that means Wainwright will come out of the bullpen in Memphis over the weekend and become the closer next week.

TLR should be fired.

maybe

may be that cp goes until he has trouble and then it’s springer. no formal 3 out/1 inning save tonight

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, perhaps you haven't grasped the situation!

i figure

waino will start in memphis, i bet, just so he can get more pitches, see the strength of his arm and the effectiveness of his curveball.
then they can determine if he will be our cloer

starting rehab games means nothing

izzy was starting games during his rehab.

he was pitching 2 innings

not really the same thing, let’s see how long Wainwright goes in the minors first.

We'll see

I see this as the Chris Perez audition. If he’s solid for his next few outings, he’ll probably get a look as the closer. Otherwise, Waino it is.

Should be interesting.

If Wainwright becomes the closer

it’s an indictment of LaRussa and Mozeliak. It is an indictment of LaRussa’s inability to allow Perez to be the closer and Mozeliak trying to coverup the fact he couldn’t acquire a reliever at the deadline by taking the teams best pitcher and making him only pitch 1 inning a night.

Perez coming out for the 9th

LOL YOU’RE GETTING WRONGER BY THE MINUTE!

Seriously though, I hope to hell you’re wrong. Just at LEAST let Perez try closing.

Pop Pop Goes the Weasel

I actually really liked MC Search.

In the world I see--you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying strips of venison on the empty carpool lane of some abandoned superhighway.

I mean, he actually gets outs, he sucks.

if cp pitches well, he'll close

if not, waino

it’s too deflating to lose the se leads. if it takes waino to stop the bleeding, then so be it

it's reviewed by the commish office

and if they agree with the dodger’s they restart the game from the protest point.

it never happens.

they were pissed about sweeney being announced

cuz they wanted to use kent….and then they both ended up being announced and sweeney got used.

by stlcardinalsfang on Aug 6, 2008 10:57 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

They accidentally burned through a pinch-hitter

Sweeney walked all the way to the box, then they decided to pull him back for Kent.

They ended up accidentally using both players. So Sweeney was wasted.

by mojowo11 on Aug 6, 2008 10:57 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

umps called sweeney in the game and torre says he never formally put him in

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, perhaps you haven't grasped the situation!

by sportsman on Aug 6, 2008 10:58 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Sweeney came to PH

the pressbox announced him before he was officially in the game, Torre took him out and put in Kent, TLR argued that he had been announced, so the Dodgers lost Sweeney because the pressbox screwed up.

by Hardcore Legend on Aug 6, 2008 10:58 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

was he in the batter's box?

doesn’t that count too? If not, it should

* sarcasm might be involved in this comment

by mattyfrommo on Aug 6, 2008 11:01 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

That's the rule

If a PH takes his place in the batter’s box, if a pitcher takes his place on the rubber, if a fielder reaches the position he’s entering in, or if a PR reaches the place of the runner he’s replacing, the sub is official even if not announced.

by whopperman on Aug 6, 2008 11:02 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

because TLR is smarter than Joe Torre

Torre sent up his batter too quick and wanted to change his mind.

It’s one of those “welcome to the NL” things. I remember when TLR got screwed by Bobby Cox his first year here for first signaling the pitching change before telling the ump of the double switch.

by enoscountry on Aug 6, 2008 10:58 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

he'll leave perez in

until a left handed batter comes up
