Game 116 Overflow 2
Probably getting to be about the late innings now, eh? This should be fascinating...
Or, Jo-El blew it and we're down by six. Either way.

Wainwright is officially the closer
By Perez pitching the 8th, that means Izzy/Franklin will be the closer tonight.
That means they are keeping the seat warm for Wainwright, who will be pitching Friday in Memphis.
I’d imagine that means Wainwright will come out of the bullpen in Memphis over the weekend and become the closer next week.

maybe
may be that cp goes until he has trouble and then it’s springer. no formal 3 out/1 inning save tonight
If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, perhaps you haven't grasped the situation!

i figure
waino will start in memphis, i bet, just so he can get more pitches, see the strength of his arm and the effectiveness of his curveball.
then they can determine if he will be our cloer

not really the same thing, let’s see how long Wainwright goes in the minors first.

We'll see
I see this as the Chris Perez audition. If he’s solid for his next few outings, he’ll probably get a look as the closer. Otherwise, Waino it is.
Should be interesting.

If Wainwright becomes the closer
it’s an indictment of LaRussa and Mozeliak. It is an indictment of LaRussa’s inability to allow Perez to be the closer and Mozeliak trying to coverup the fact he couldn’t acquire a reliever at the deadline by taking the teams best pitcher and making him only pitch 1 inning a night.

Pop Pop Goes the Weasel
I actually really liked MC Search.
In the world I see--you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying strips of venison on the empty carpool lane of some abandoned superhighway.

They accidentally burned through a pinch-hitter
Sweeney walked all the way to the box, then they decided to pull him back for Kent.
They ended up accidentally using both players. So Sweeney was wasted.

Sweeney came to PH
the pressbox announced him before he was officially in the game, Torre took him out and put in Kent, TLR argued that he had been announced, so the Dodgers lost Sweeney because the pressbox screwed up.

That's the rule
If a PH takes his place in the batter’s box, if a pitcher takes his place on the rubber, if a fielder reaches the position he’s entering in, or if a PR reaches the place of the runner he’s replacing, the sub is official even if not announced.

because TLR is smarter than Joe Torre
Torre sent up his batter too quick and wanted to change his mind.
It’s one of those “welcome to the NL” things. I remember when TLR got screwed by Bobby Cox his first year here for first signaling the pitching change before telling the ump of the double switch.
