luddites rejoice

for the 29th time

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, perhaps you haven't grasped the situation!

Quickest. Overflow. Ever.

That’s what she said.

UIBB Manny

if he strikes himself out great, if he takes the walk no harm done….

by nota bene on Aug 6, 2008 8:54 PM EDT   0 recs

the way he's going

there’s no guarantee he’d keep an intentional ball away from the plate…..

by nota bene on Aug 6, 2008 8:55 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

This has to be some kind of record

an overflow thread in the 2nd inning.

C'mon you Redbirds, lets prove em' wrong, again!

it's preprogrammed,

so that just means we have a slow game.

although, we kinda needed it also.

by Phizzle on Aug 6, 2008 8:55 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

or they called it

the game has only been on 45 minutes

I only got 2 3/4 hrs of sleep last night, and havent napped today. I’ll be in bed by 9.

the thread was posted kinda early

allowing to garner several (100+) pregame comments.

eh?

that was a pretty good pitch… and TLR’s the one not letting the IBB

by duncans_army on Aug 6, 2008 8:57 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I guarantee TLR gave the sign for "Don't give him anything to hit"

Pineiro is just awful and or stupid.

seriously...

he pretty much hit the glove Yadi set up…

by duncans_army on Aug 6, 2008 8:58 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

fine then, Yadi is the dumb one

Whoever made the call to put that ball anywhere near the strike zone is an absolute moron.

Nice play

that ball was a lot tougher than it looked

by ViperLjs on Aug 6, 2008 8:57 PM EDT   0 recs

I'll admit

I thought Joel was “fixed” after last season and I applauded the extension. Now I can’t wait for him to not be on our team anymore

like I said before

tony is an idiot to pitch to Manny in that situation

I'm not sure why we're pitching to Manny at all

considering their lineup ain’t gonna hit too much. he really wants Pineiro dfa’d apparently

strikeouts from left-center

by Cards Fan in Chitown on Aug 6, 2008 9:01 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Wow, seriously I think firing Tony LaRussa isn't to bad of an idea

I’ve been holding off that judgement a while. Platooning Ludwick, batting the Pitcher 8th, Sticking with Izzy way to long and too many times, not going for series sweeps.

Just today
He puts Lopez in LF (He gets a hit though so maybe I can’t fault him for that).
Pitched to Manny with RISP when he’s the hottest hitter in baseball.
Continues to defend Izzy.

by TheBirds on Aug 6, 2008 8:59 PM EDT   0 recs

Not sure that any other manager in the game today

Does what TLR has done with this year’s club

He frustrates the hell out of me as well, but I think that his managerial abilities have been taken for granted

by Mr Redbird on Aug 6, 2008 9:01 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

any other manager

with the possible exception of Piniella, Leyland, and Cox has a sub 500 record with this same group of guys.

by nota bene on Aug 6, 2008 9:01 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

that's the thing

but he could be doing better is what is most frustrating… he can rally the guys and turn them into winners, but then he makes the most confounding decisions with the bullpen, platooning Ludwick, etc.

by Cards Fan in Chitown on Aug 6, 2008 9:02 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm not sure Cox is that great

I mean he had possibly the three best pitchers in the game during that whole run

by Mr Redbird on Aug 6, 2008 9:03 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

how about the fact that

he won the frigging WS in 2006 doing the same thing, dealing with incompetent pitchers, streaky hitters, and retreads from other teams?

by nota bene on Aug 6, 2008 9:03 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

if you arent going to give tlr credit for that and this year

then no manager gets any credit for anything they do

they still had to GET there

and it wasn’t cause the pitchers were lights out in September. You may remember some drastic roster moves….

by nota bene on Aug 6, 2008 9:11 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

They got enough wins and the central was awful that year

I’m not saying it’s impossible that Tony salvaged that year, I’m just saying it’s possible he wasn’t a major contributing factor.

by TheBirds on Aug 6, 2008 9:13 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

of course not

but I think the manager’s job should be Tony’s until he quits, because nearly every other manager out there is going to be a downgrade….

by nota bene on Aug 6, 2008 9:11 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Now I disagree with that

Think Bobby Bowden, Joe Paterno

Bobby Bowden

My Grandfather passed away when I was 13, so Coach Bowden became a sort of Grandfather to me after that. He really is one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

C'mon you Redbirds, lets prove em' wrong, again!

by yer dog first on Aug 6, 2008 9:14 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

One guy my mom works with played 3rd string like tackle or something

When Bowden coached at Samford in Birmingham. Obviously that was 30+ years ago, but a couple of years ago, he was in Tallahassee and he swung by Bowden’s office, and Bobby remembered him and everything. Really impressive if you ask me.

Still, he’s lost his coaching touch. And Terry sucks.

by Mr Redbird on Aug 6, 2008 9:18 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Bowden

he hasnt been the Coach since Richt was the offensive coordinator. I agree, Terry is not a good coach, at all. If you believe anything the WWL says, Richt could be on his way out of UGA if they dont do something this year. I personally wouldnt mind him coming back to coach, but Jimbo “forever second” Fischer is the “coach in waiting”.

TLR isn’t that old yet, but point taken.

by nota bene on Aug 6, 2008 9:17 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

You can never quantify that type of thing

But with as many soul-crushing losses as we’ve had this season, how the team manages to come back out fighting tooth and nail every night is beyond me

his hands are kind of tied with the BP also...

no reliever has been that excellent. Springer is probably the best for the year, but he blew one just this last series vs the phils

by duncans_army on Aug 6, 2008 9:02 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

worth mentioning

the game that Springer wasnt too sharp in was also the 3rd game IN A ROW that he had to pitch in. if there’s anything we can say about the Old Dude, he is reliable and he doesnt do to well on back to back to back days.

C'mon you Redbirds, lets prove em' wrong, again!

by yer dog first on Aug 6, 2008 9:04 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Armchair managing...h

1) Ludwick was platooned ONLY in the first month of the season. Are you saying you knew that he was going to be an All-Star this year? If so, point me to the post.

2) There’s absolutely nothing wrong with batting the pitcher eighth, and in fact it’s probably a small net plus.

3) Tony keeps going back to Izzy because everyone else pretty much sucks, and at least Izzy used to be good. Other than trying Springer, there hasn’t been much of an option. The point is, blaming Tony b/c Izzy has “collapsed” this season is shooting the messanger.

-- GOOCH

by GOOCH24 on Aug 6, 2008 9:04 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I can agree with the first 2

but if Tony would refuse to use Izzy, he would not be on this team. The past means nothing right now, we are in a pennant race, right?

* sarcasm might be involved in this comment

by mattyfrommo on Aug 6, 2008 9:06 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Tony isn't crazy...

he can see Izzy is sucking. And if we had an established elite reliever out there who could step in, it would have happened a long time. We don’t. He tried Franklin. Franklin sucks. There’s no point in trying Villone, he sucks. Perez and McClellan are rooks. Perez has had control issues and Kyle has been hittable the last two months. The only guy who you could argue in favor is Springer, but he’s unfamilliar with the role and old. I think Tony has tried Izzy too much. But I can’t argue that trying him is nuts. There’s a logic to it. Suggesting he should be fired over it is just…ridiculous. D.GOOCH

Other than the first month, he has had just as many ab’s as any regular (around 90-100 ab’s a month). D.GOOCH

is there such thing as a ROOGY?

Not sure about Motte’s numbers but i think its like 90 some k’s in like 59 innings. lots of walks though

by RayMonD! on Aug 6, 2008 8:59 PM EDT   0 recs

i'd die for that

and we have it, it’s called Perez. Should he have his stuff figured out and with confidence.
