Lineup...

I don’t mind the acquisition of Felipe Lopez. Kind of look forward to seeing what TLR can do with him… but he shouldn’t be taking at bats away from Mather at this point.

by AndyB83 on Aug 6, 2008 7:12 PM EDT up reply actions

what a gawd awful line up

there’s only 4 spots where any hits can come from, Albert, Lud, Troy & Yadda. every other spot is almost a guaranteed out.

lowe is going to throw a complete game 4 hit shut out. book it.

Lopez...

is hitting above .290 away from the new stadium in DC in almost 170 at-bats. He may get a hit. Shouldn’t be playing over Mather though… I’ll give you that.

by AndyB83 on Aug 6, 2008 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Lopez was just DFA'd by the worst team in baseball

he has no business being on the Cardinals let alone starting over a kid who’s done nothing but help this team win over the last few weeks.

Skippy can hit, i just dont think he will tonight vs a sinker baller.

Since July 1st...

Ryan in 48 at-bat’s: .146 AVG, 5 BB’s, 2 RBI’s, 8 K’s, 1 SB

Lopez in 69 at-bat’s: .203 AVG, 5 BB’s, 5 RBI’s, 9 K’s, 0 SB

Essentially the same player over the past month… I understand your lack of enthusiasm for Lopez; but I don’t know about classifying Brendan Ryan as “doing nothing but help this team win over the last few weeks.”

by AndyB83 on Aug 6, 2008 7:45 PM EDT up reply actions

He meant Mather

As in, instead of Mather in LF tonight, Lopez is there

the more i think about it

I think soccer has something the other sports don’t, and thats a natural growing fanbase.

I think census projections have the Hispanic population reaching close to 50% within the next 20 years or something and take it for someone who taught last year in a highschool that was 42% Hispanic, they like soccer….....A LOT.

besides that

more and more kids are playing soccer when they are younger. Its the cheapest league to put together; no pads like football, No bats or gloves like baseball. Just a ball and a green place and you can put together a field. As more and more kids play it when they are young more stay with it as they’re older. More Fans, more money, better league its a cycle. It will probably never be as popular as football or baseball but could be a solid 3 or 4 in America.

Soccer was hugely popular in the 80's

I player select soccer into high school but stopped cause of Football was a better sport. I still enjoy a pick up game of soccer but never enjoyed watching it on TV much

I take contention that football is a better sport

But thats a personal opinion and everyone is entitled to theirs. I went to a small private school, we didn’t have football so I never had an opportunity to play competitively (besides not much call for a 140 pounder who can run forever on the football field). I have got more into the NFL (thanks to playing fantasy football) and have always liked college football. But sometimes sitting down and watching 2 power houses go at it for 90 minutes plus is amazing. The drama the ebbs and flows of action, near misses and wonderful goals. There is a reason they call it the beautiful game

Miles : “Tony, thanks for giving me the day off, I need to work some more on my quads. But if this gets blown out, can I pitch? Please? Don’t make me use the…”

Tony : “Yes, hun.”

El Hombre : “Yadi, turns out I actually do have protection. Guess I can fix my strikezone. Luddy is creaming the ball. Too bad you can’t get protection too”

Yadi : “Whatcha mean Pu?”

El Hombre : “See the pitcher plus 3 pussies hitting behind you? Can you say ‘Hit and Run’?”

Yadi “Oh, well it’s not like we want to get a lead until the 7th anyways, it’s not like Joel can keep one if we did”

Joel : “Hey, don’t blame me! It’s not my fault that Tony continues to field an impotent lineup. My kicksaves aren’t a replacement for a bat or two”

Yadi & El Hombre : “Lol, Dude! Even if you do get a weak lineup, they always give you a lead and you blow it”

Joel ” Oh”

Joe ” Joe see ball, Joe hit ball”

Miles ” Not today Joe, you sit next to me on the bench, k?”

more people need to learn what I learned

when the bullpen implodes, put down the laptop and go hit your head on the wall. It really does help.
I think it is a good thing that it didn’t want to load it the first time I tried. The occasional f-word isn’t that bad, but do people actually feel better telling say f-u Izzy?

I thought things might get ugly when I saw someone in the main thread(?) yesterday, tell another poster to go fuck himself.

That was just plain classy.
