I am OK with the Green Light there.

Pujols is going to score on a basehit. There are more ways to score from third, but Glaus has to be a green light hitter for us.

by Egyptian on Aug 6, 2008 12:04 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

glaus leads qualified batters on this team by a wide margin in swinging at the fewest balls outside the strike zone according to fangraphs. he also leads the team by a fair margin in pitches per plate appearance. he even has a slightly higher career BB% than pujols, the #2 in O-SWING and BB%. for what little it’s worth i personally trust his eye, and would trust him to swing at 3-0 counts whenever he wants.

yeah, but

raconteur leads qualified posters in angry, vitriolic comments directed at players for failing at what he believes to be simple athletic tasks. you can’t argue with that.

Sigh.

I don’t know what to do. I seriously don’t even know what to feel.

This is almost enough to make me want to stop watching the Cards play until my fellow VEB’ers tell me that the bullpen situation is at least partially rectified.

Trust me, it took all I have in me to not wish any physical harm to him or his family.

The way TLR has gotten on his knees to suck off Izzy over the years just adds to my hatred of the player.

I don’t need to hear about what type of a leader or a competitor a guy is. I just want results.

I can't speak for everyone

but my intention in saying something like this isn’t to be whiny. Its more like a cry for help. No one would be here if we didn’t love this team. But can’t we discuss it like adults? I’m not offended by the occasional F-bomb. But the negativity, tone and immaturity isn’t the exception anymore. It’s the norm.

I come here because I live 2,000 miles away from St. Louis, and I’m looking to connect w/ some fellow fans in a way that’s hard to do from so far away. Not to mention that the analysis is 2nd to none. We still love the site. Heck, erik & Val used to write regularly. Just asking that everyone keep a little perspective.

by TNTinCO on Aug 6, 2008 12:30 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

won’t claim that i’m not the source of the occasional meaningless comment, but at least they’re harmless as well.

Ludwick was a journeyman in various team’s systems, too early to say on k-mac, and it took 7 years to get a return on Ankiel. Haren is the only other prospect I can think of who we developed and unfortunately traded.

The thing is guys and this is obviously just my opinion

but I think that we have the guys we need within our own system to get the job done in the bullpen. The bigger problem is who Tony keeps on trying to rely on to close the games. It is not working so why are you trying the same thing over and over again. We keep on complaining about how bad our closers are but then just put the same guys out on the mound and when they fail again we say we got a big problem. It is insane how many times are we gonna have to blow games with izzy and franklin before we try something else. there are other guys in the bullpen and I am not suggesting that we use flores or villone here but how about Kyle McClellan and on occasion when the other team is especially strong with right handed batters why do we not throw Russ Springer out there. Their are other options in our bullpen that tony just does not explore and to me that is a sign of bad management and stubbornness

When the time comes for me to not be bothered by losing that is when I know it is time to retire my fandom

by ANDYAK47 on Aug 6, 2008 4:45 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I don't know how you fix it.

The closer is the problem and we were not going to pay for a closer.

That said, a different lefty reliever perhaps doesn’t give up the AJ homerun.

how to fix the pen -hopefully

let McCellan close for now.
DL Izzy and Franklin with some made up malady.
Call up Motte and Perez and let them work the latter innings along with Russ Springer.
Use only Villone as a one out lefty.

This ain’t that hard. If it doesn’t work, then at least you tried something with kids who are hungry. Not languishing vets.

The green light for Glaus

on 3/0 tells me there will be change. Only because its now a public relations disaster. Everyone is culpable. It would be better for the team if they lost, just to expose the farce further. The sad thing is they’re going to make Garcia the fall guy.
