Ok, i can't find it.
i’ve stayed up way to long looking for it. it was on insidestl.com site. but they dont have it up any more. i’ll try & see if i can get someone who works there to send me the clip. i’ll let you know what i find out..
i did find this one though. it’s an interview with Ryan talking about what it’s like living with Welley. it’s pretty funny.

I don't really understand.
McClellan’s numbers are clearly better against LH hitters. Why is LaRussa in such a hurry to remove him for the lefties? Especially for a manager that putls so much weight on numbers.

there won’t be until september when we are 8+ games out. these guys are over used and have to be perfect every time. i think they are mentally exhausted as well as tired. what this means? this is just how good they are. no use wishing for something different.

Once again ...
if you go to enough relief pitchers, one of them is bound to be off that night. I hate the specialty relief carousel for that reason. They threw three pitchers consecutively that all best perform against LH hitters. Why would I use different pitchers with the same specialty? Then, he uses Springer for the third consecutive night instead of his setup guy in Franklin. I don’t really get it.
Granted, Springer has been generally pretty good, but it still seems a little shaky on the reasoning.

Although Springer had an off night, there is some sense in pitching Springer and Garcia. I wish he had left K-Mac in, but do you really want to see Izzy or Franklin in a close game, also a game that really matters, when they are the two relievers that would give us all heart attacks? However, this could all be solved by leaving K-Mac in, and maybe bringing in Izzy, who had a good outing last night, but Garcia was a bad choice, and Springer has been generally good, but this is his third straght night. I think TLR made another gamble, and lost. Badly. Well, that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

Yes, I really want to see them use Franklin in that situation.
I don’t care what we think of them, these are their roles. It is Ryan Franklin’s job to get us out of that inning. That’s why he pitches here. It is Izzy’s job to finish out the 9th. I would live and die with that, until we remove those guys from that role. I have a much bigger issue with the L-R-L pitching switch when the R does better than either of the two L against LH hitting.

This is an example of Tony over-thinking everything. McClellan is our best arm. Why not leave him in to face everybody? Why switch out to Garcia, then Springer? You have to believe that none of them will be having an off night. Yuck!

the assumption that “handedness” is more important than ability is questionable thinking to me too. plus they warm up all the time, so springer’s ratio of pitches in the bullpen to pitches in the game is high. doesn’t seem the most efficient way to go.

Really
TLR made the right moves with the limited options he has. He brought in Garcia to face two lefties and would have had a double play if Aaron Miles had made a decent throw from second. Springer was the right choice against Burrell who he has owned. But when it was obvious that Springer didn’t have it – everything was up – what was he supposed to do. Bring in Franklin or Izzy – does anyone think the results would have been any better?
