if lopez has to be in there, i’d rather see him in left and miles at second.
or miles at second and ankiel in the outfield instead of stav, but NOT batting cleanup. seventh sounds right.

by adiueordie on Aug 27, 2008 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

so if i could turn into tony

1. Miles 2b
2. Mather lf
3. Pujols 1b
4. Ludwick rf
5. Glaus 3b
6. Molina c
7. Izturis ss
8. Wainwright p
9. Schumaker cf

schumaker? barf. look at his line against parra

izturis ss
mather cf
pujols 1b
ludwick rf
glaus 3b
molina c
ankiel or lopez lf
wainwright p
miles 2b

by adiueordie on Aug 27, 2008 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah, totally

but it would seem ankiel is too hurt to play. i’ll concede it may make more sense to go w/ lopez or stavinoha in left. but, and i know this is lame, my gut says schumaker is a better option than those two for this particular must win. and if ankiel isn’t hurt, even with the supreme funk, i may stake a stab at slotting him seventh and hoping he connects. as is, i stand by my lineup.

POWER

power isn’t electricity.

the electricity goes out a lot.

but the power never goes out.

sometimes the power needs fuel.

so you buy a sixer and play “sabbath bloody sabbath” for two hours on the guitar.

can't go wrong with anything by sabbath

I love the history behind that album… They move to LA, try to write songs, but partying too hard gives them writers block, so they randomly decide to return to England to make the album in the dungeon of some castle. A perfect 70’s heavy metal story.

We need a Jack Buck type broadcaster in St. Louis

watching old broadcasts, I guess I never realized how much disgust or disdain Jack Buck had for Jay Randolph when they did simulcasts on the Cardinals Network. Jay Randolph would say stupid stuff like Dan and Al, and Buck would have no bones about correcting him and asking him how he came up with that incorrect statement.

I wish we had some honest, frank broadcasters in St. Louis. Not mean spirited, not constantly critical. But someone who will point out mistakes, question questionable stuff and above all TELL HRBOSKY TO SHUT UP!

by Hardcore Legend on Aug 27, 2008 8:04 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

that would be great

but jack buck’s only come around once in a lifetime.

by adiueordie on Aug 27, 2008 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

true...

you have to be around a long time to collect enough cred to call people out for saying stupid things…Shannon is the only guy around long enough to do that, and he’d not that kind of guy

by Cards Fan in Chitown on Aug 27, 2008 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

well every now and again, Mike gets it wrong, too...

I remember a game in Pittsburgh a few years back, Shannon awarded a save to Izzy, in a situation where even with the convoluted-ass way they are given, it was NOT a save situation…Hagin was the other announcer, as I recall, and he did not correct him.

Jack Buck is one of the reasons

I am a Cardinals fan. Even here on the East Coast, I could pick up KMOX signal at night and listen to the games.

Of course the real reason I’m a Cardinals fan is that my dad’s favorite ballplayer is Stan Musial

Jack was one of the greatest announcers I ever heard

and I feel fortunate to have grown up in St Louis to hear him first hand…when he died, they kept playing his call on the Gibson homer off Eckersley in 1988, but that was far from his best call, IMO…I heard at least a couple dozen better ones all the years I heard him on Cardinal baseball

anyone watch the olympic semifinal game?

Between US and Cuba??

I know its old, but all the talk of beaning someone brings it back to mind. Unbelievable the way the Cubans acted.

In case you missed it . . . Cuba was up 2 and batting in the top of the ninth. Their right fielder hits a 3 run homer, an absolute bomb, and instead of running, he stares at it, turns his back to the plate, walks back toward the dugout, then finally starts walking toward first.
Joe Magraine was calling the game and said"I know these guys arent professional, but that was completely unprofessional. If this was the big leagues, that guy would wear one in the neck his next time up."

Here ya go
MIZZOU FOOTBALL GAMES VS. SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE AND NEVADA TO BE TELEVISED LIVE VIA PAY-PER-VIEW

The University of Missouri and FSN announced that Mizzou’s football games vs. Southeast Missouri State on Sept. 6 and Nevada on Sept. 13 will be televised live via pay-per-view. The pay-per-view telecasts will be available on participating cable systems in the region and nationwide to satellite dish customers.

The Sept. 6 game will kick off at 6 p.m. from Faurot Field, with the Sept. 13 game scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. start. These two games, the Tigers’ first in Columbia this season, were not previously scheduled for television coverage.
[…]

Participating cable and satellite providers will offer the telecasts to their customers on a specially designated pay-per-view channel. It is expected that Charter, Time Warner, Mediacom, Suddenlink and many more cable providers, along with DirecTV and Dish Network, will offer the games. Fans are encouraged to order prior to game day, since some cable systems may be busy taking last-minute orders on the day of the game. The telecasts will not pre-empt FSN’s regularly scheduled programming.

i actually bought a samsung 46" (ln46A750)

yesterday, after trying all the TV’s at Fry’s/BB/etc, including toshiba regza, sharp aquos, sony bavia, etc. IMO the sharps and sony’s were really bad, toshiba ok, and the samsung was heads above the rest. The very best imo was a samsung plasma, but I wanted a 46 and the plasma was only made in 52+. Came home and googled them and there are lots of good things said about them on the interweb. It sounds like the 120hz stuff is useless bunk, but you can easily turn that off, and the picture quality etc on the samsung is as highly regarded as I perceived in the store.

I ordered it from amazon to save $$$ so it hasn’t been delivered yet, so I don’t have any in-home expertise yet, but in-store it was sweet. Should get it Tuesday.

they might somewhat understand ‘transitional’ year but when the team gets in contention and the manager clings to a washed up closer and management does nothing while every other team in the division made a move in the off-season, I’m sure there is some resentment.

This is the beauty of sports

Every year the vast majority of fans will have their hearts broken at some point in the season. only a small % are rewarded for their fandom each year. And for those of us who are just as involved in the other major sports, we get to live this feeling 4-5 time a year. But it makes it all worth it when your team has that magical season (2006).

ESPN Management (CT): Umm…...what does this have to do with the Red Sox and Yankees?
SportsNation Jerry Crasnick: Management, Let’s take a break with the sarcasm, OK?
