Chris Lambert watch:
Former Cardinals 1st round pick, making his Major League debut for the Detroit Tigers…
1IP, 1K, 0R, 0H, 9 pitches. Fastball is topping out at 90, so far.
The Tigers have already won that trade.

ladies and gents
the defending world champion cardinals
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.
LOL
I have a picture I took of Friday nights lineup, after all the changes once we were up big. At the time, our lineup was this:
Skip CF
Miles SS
Mather RF
LaRue C
Barton LF
Lopez 3B
Molina 1B
Pineiro P
Izturis SS
How scary would THAT be if it were our starting lineup?

I was using the Z
and when your comment popped up I didn’t know where in the thread it went. For a second I thought you were talking about Zambrano and I got REAL excited.
Jimmy steps in to lead off the bottom half of the inning... with nobody on base... It could happen... just not tonight.

Must gain ground these 2 games
If we don’t get close I’m not sure we can catch them.
A) Cards don’t go on extened winning streaks
B) Brew Crew won’t collapse
It sure would be nice to bust A) pretty soon

Why can't we...
Take a look at the brew and cubbies schedule and find some common teams they’re going to play against.
Then get aligned with that team (or teams) and send them guys like Phelps, Marti and a few others to help them win over waivers. Or even a pitcher or two. it can be worked out as a gentlemans agreement and a rest of the year “hands on showcase/rental”, we’ll get them back at the end of the year, but maybe they’ll actually field a team that could possibly give those two some hell.
Of course someone else could get in the way on the waiver line, but it could be pulled back anyhow. It’ll get some Memphis guys some ML experience as well, even if it wasn’t with us.

I just solved the Wallace problem and the MIF problem.
Wallace up, Glaus to SS. Izturis to 2b.
I didn't know we had a Wallace problem
And if we are doing that put FLopez @ 2B so we have some offense.

He's played SS before a bit
and a great-hitting, below-average-d SS is worth more than a great-field, no-hit SS.
lol he played ss 10 yrs ago
he doesnt have the range or else he would have never stopped playing SS.
He played 8 games in '06
My point is, why not just try him there in Spring Training ’09?
In all seriousness
why not Glaus at 2b. He can’t be any worse than some of the options used there, can he?
* sarcasm might be involved in this comment
I think glaus at 2b is asking for an injury

Wellemeyer pitching for his contract?
With Wellemeyer due to be a free agent after this season, do you think his last few starts will decide whether or not we re-sign him? He had a good start to the season, so-so middle, and now he’s straightened himself out lately.
Wellemeyer is not a free agent
and will be in the rotation next year. He will be an excellent number 4 pitcher in this league if he can pitch deeper into games

Anyone but Albert
The game just started, but it already seems like the Brewers will be content to pitch around Albert, no matter the circumstances (except for bases loaded). Someone is going to have to step up and drive in some runs. I don’t think the Brewers are going to let El Hombre beat them this series. We need huge contributions from Luddy, Troy, and Ank.
I don't know
Sheets came after him initially and Albert almost hit one out – just foul

I’m all for the Tony defense injecting itself, but Welly was up to bat, not Yadi, not Kennedy (where in both cases it makes some merit of sense).

Dear Tony La Russa
There are other plays than the hit and run. One of them is a straight steal. Another is simply going station to station. Another is the bunt. Please remember this next time you think you’re going to call for hit and run on EVERY SINGLE FREAKING PLAY.
Sincerely,
Valatan

I love the Pirates
runner at first, no outs. Dougie Menk hits a single, Moss gets thrown out a third. Cardinal sin.
Freddy Sanchez then walks in a 9 pitch at-bat. So, instead of loaded with no outs, it’s 1st and 2nd with 1 out.
