When the time comes for me to not be bothered by losing that is when I know it is time to retire my fandom
huge play
thought he was safe though
When the time comes for me to not be bothered by losing that is when I know it is time to retire my fandom
Looking at the replay
he was safe.
foot touched before the tag.
huge play indeed.
C'mon you Redbirds, lets prove em' wrong, again!

Which reminds me...
I’m not too excited about instant replay coming to baseball.
by mikeonthecards on Aug 24, 2008 3:55 PM EDT up reply actions
it is just for home runs
so, I do not have a problem with it
When the time comes for me to not be bothered by losing that is when I know it is time to retire my fandom
I know,
but I can’t help but think they’ll expand it eventually to fair/foul, then to catch/no catch, then to out/safe, etc. That will suck!
by mikeonthecards on Aug 24, 2008 3:57 PM EDT up reply actions
6, one way
half dozen the other.
how many times have you seen a play where the guy on your team was safe, or made a catch, that the umpiring crew blew the call on, and that ultimately affected the game?
C'mon you Redbirds, lets prove em' wrong, again!
by yer dog first on Aug 24, 2008 3:59 PM EDT up reply actions
yes, isnt the point of the umpire to make the correct call
so why not use tools to make sure the calls are correct
exactly
it works fairly well in football, Id say.
C'mon you Redbirds, lets prove em' wrong, again!
by yer dog first on Aug 24, 2008 4:02 PM EDT up reply actions
Not really?
Half the time the stuff that should get reviewed doesn’t. It slows down the game even more. And, they often times still don’t get the call right because of ‘the ruling on the field’.
It’s worked for 150 years, why change now?
by Hardcore Legend on Aug 24, 2008 4:03 PM EDT up reply actions
Alright!
Someone that doesn’t disagree with me!
by mikeonthecards on Aug 24, 2008 4:03 PM EDT up reply actions
The only time replay really works in the NFL
is on boundary calls (such as toes in, breaking plain, etc). Which is what MLB is going to use it for.
Expanding on that would be a mistake.
Unless we are replacing the umpires with robots.
by Hardcore Legend on Aug 24, 2008 4:05 PM EDT up reply actions
i think some system where anything non judgement related
should be able to be looked at. scoring plays, out/safe, fair/foul
now how best to implement it is the key
You ended up on a Cardinals blog
because you can’t EVER DO ANYTHING RIGHT YOU OLD FOOL!
by Hardcore Legend on Aug 24, 2008 4:11 PM EDT up reply actions
Just kidding...
Anyway, is every close play going to be reviewed? Are they going to have an extra umpire just to sit and watch replays? Is the ruling on the field going to stand? Where does it stop?
by mikeonthecards on Aug 24, 2008 4:11 PM EDT up reply actions
as i said, you would need to work out the system
but in the time it takes bobby cox to waddle out and yell at the blue, he could walk to a dugout and watch the replay.
I hear what you're saying.
For one, I think maybe the bad calls and the gift calls would even themselves out over the course of a year. Secondly, if replays are going to be used in several aspects of the game, the games will last significantly longer.
by mikeonthecards on Aug 24, 2008 4:02 PM EDT up reply actions
if the outcome is the correct one,
then it is well served.

I have hated the Pirates
since this game…
I was home on leave from Iraq and got to go see that game. The Cardinals won their next twelve games against Pittsburgh, but lost that one. It’s the only time the Cards haven’t won when I’ve been at the game…
"Crud, does that booger-eating spaz make me wanna puke!" - Tanner Boyle
Pirates playing .500 ball against the Cards (7-7)...
and a combined 5-19 against the Cubs and Brewers…
The Pirates are looking to be our spoiler this year on both ends.
It would have been nice for the Pirates to win that game. The Brewers would have come in on a loss and only 2.5 games up. After winning the game in that type of fashion they are going to be coming into Busch on cloud 9 and feeling pretty good about their chances.
Lohse suspension appeal
anyone know when the appeal for Lohse five game suspension is being held? If he has to serve before 9/3, then we might see a start from Pineiro/Thompson, assuming Carp is back to take over the fifth starter position on Sept 2.
If the appeal is heard after 9/3, then the off days in the first week of Sept will allow the rotation to continue in order with skipping a start by Lohse without using Pineiro/Thompson.
To be fair to the Pirates
earlier in the game the Brewers had the bases loaded and nobody out with Ryan Braun and then Prince Fielder coming up. Braun struck out and Prince gidp! That being said. The Pirates blow, except when playing us this year.
