Matt Clement
released by the Cardinals today. Also, Waino felt great after an 80 pitch bullpen session today.
I wonder
why they released him. Hadn’t they already moved him off the 40 man roster?

Maybe
Wanted to promote someone from Springfield and he was taking up a spot? Salas?
by FlimtotheFlam on Aug 2, 2008 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions
Maybe
they plan on keeping Jaime up for the rest of the season and they are bringing Todd up to finish the season as a starter at AAA. Salas being promoted makes sense as well, though.
Lineup
Skip
Mather
Pujols
Ludwick
Glaus
Molina
Kennedy
Looper
Miles
How long before the first complaint about Miles starting at SS?
Dammit!
Why is Miles starting at shortstop?

it's a wash
although I think kennedy is better hitting
strikeouts from left-center

Wasn't Iz2 hitting pretty well lately?
play him while he’s hot. It doesn’t happen that often.
by ccthemovieman on Aug 2, 2008 6:40 PM EDT up reply actions
.237/.275/.263/.538
is his line in the past 10 games (well, ten that he had an at bat).
Hot it is not.

exactly
and the slg is very representative of what the bat is doing. most of the hits are dead weak

with a goodly chunk of those hits
dancing through meekly just inches away from a middle infielder’s glove.

shouldn't take long
he’s terrible defensively + it puts Kennedy in the starting lineup. Two wrongs don’t make a right!
mother of ass Tony!
stop doing this shit!
JEBUS!
take a break

I am to the point to where i don't care anymore this season
about Miles starting at SS. You are either gonna have Izturis in there dragging you down with his bat, or ryan doing the same, or Miles with his defensive deficiencies. I am just gonna have to settle for the fact we are not going to have a decent MIF combination this season.
I can still complain about craptacular combos we can put in there, right?

I see a high scoring affair coming tonight
Two incredibly hittable righties on the mound.
boo cubs, hooray beer
it'll probably be a shootout
hopefully Loop’s brought a few “get out of jam free” cards with him…..Philly will get their licks in on him, but if he can just prevent crooked numbers we’ll have a chance…..
I'm not sure if anyone knows this, but...
11 is not a crooked number.

Note to Looper:
Don’t give Howard anything he can hit!! A little reminder: He already has 3 Hrs off you.
Just note:
They do that to other teams too.

Anyone notice..
looper’s game numbers when LaRue is behind the plate? Now it clearly has a small sample size warning (approx 120 PA vs 423), but there is a 200 point drop in OPS

good swing

skippy
hit that ball pretty hard. Looks like the day i had in the show today. Hard hit balls to the warning track for a whole freakin month.
Skippy has to learn to take some pitches
especially against a guy the Cards haven’t seen so far
I'm going to go try to find a puppy and kick it. - Brad Thompson AND THAT'S A WINNER!
Izturis
Hitting well against LH pitching. I would not play Izturis against RH pitching. Nothing wrong with this lineup.
how was strike one a strike?
looked low & outside blue

uh, isn't that what i said?
LOOP isn’t getting the high & inside strike tonight either

Dear Loop
A very nice start, but please, please don’t put any more sliders that high the rest of the game.
Thanks

can anyone give a little more info about the DP?
all I’ve got is gameday
My first memory of Cardinals baseball is seeing Darrell Porter jump into Bruce Sutter's arms on October 20, 1982!
diving catch by LUD
caught Howard napping & doubled him off first

yadis line going into tonight
308/355/390 – i wonder how many other everyday players have hit over 300 but slugged under 400?
yeah it seems more prevalent than i thought
theriot, polanco and grudz are all doing the same thing this year
If he had any speed ...
I wouldn’t have a problem with it. Unfortunately, I’ve seen him passed by old ladies using walkers on the basepaths.
geesh LOOP,,,,
I'm going to go try to find a puppy and kick it. - Brad Thompson AND THAT'S A WINNER!
nice play there AK & LOOP

why aren't you posting the same thing about Albert?
seems like you have an agenda against Mather, as you make an anti-mather post about once a game.

i think it was last night they showed a highlight of Albert's first career hit
it was interesting to see how different his batting stance is now compared to then
so let me see if i get this straight blue
Blanton gets just about everything inside called a strike, and LOOP does not?
perfect*
I'm going to go try to find a puppy and kick it. - Brad Thompson AND THAT'S A WINNER!
i dont think any one doesn't think it was a strike
the problem i’m having is LOOP has thrown about 10 pitches inside to Phillies hitters & all but one have been called a strike.
right now Blanton is getting a lot more balls called strikes
I'm going to go try to find a puppy and kick it. - Brad Thompson AND THAT'S A WINNER!
I'm guessing what you said is not what you meant.
I’m guessing you meant only the one to Burrell was CALLED a strike, right?
yes
in my head the words made sense. how they came out ass backwards is beyond me

Full count & you go inside...not smart
low & away to Howard, ONLY!
Howard is unbelievable
When the time comes for me to not be bothered by losing that is when I know it is time to retire my fandom
Against US
Against other teams, he’s a strikeout machine
by cloistermaximus on Aug 2, 2008 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions
what's unbelievable is that
the rest of the league holds the guy to a .230 average
why can’t we?
My first memory of Cardinals baseball is seeing Darrell Porter jump into Bruce Sutter's arms on October 20, 1982!
Maybe
We should revise the gameplan against him…something to the effect of NOT throwing him seven straight fastballs…at least according to gameday.
looper is going to single-handedly
take the MVP away from albert and give it to Howard…
"..and that, my liege, is how we know the Earth to be banana shaped." -Sir Belvedere
Howard, 4 for 5
4 Homeruns. Uhh, just walk him. Seriously.
by cloistermaximus on Aug 2, 2008 8:11 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't think Albert is really going to get the MVP this year, anyway.
He may end up leading the league in BA, but he is third on his own team in both HRs and RBIs. He is not even in the top 15 of the NL in either category. I know that there are many other stats to view, but the voters are still looking at those.
There must be a sign posted in the visitor's clubhouse reading:
Please pose and/or admire any and all home runs. Thank you.
come on offense
put some tallies on the board
When the time comes for me to not be bothered by losing that is when I know it is time to retire my fandom
Just so some of you know.....
If you swing, and the ball hits you, it’s a strike. Mather went around, no question.
Wrists may not have broken.....
But I think the bat crossed the plate. Either way, that was the call. Some folks above acted like they didn’t understand the rule.
That was the call.
Sorry, your post sounded pretty condescending; and I was one of those posting up above. I knew the rule, but I don’t believe he swung.
of the first 15 batters Blanton has faced...
he’s thrown 12 of them first pitch strikes
My first memory of Cardinals baseball is seeing Darrell Porter jump into Bruce Sutter's arms on October 20, 1982!
Even though there's 15 outs to go...
the offense is really putting off that lethargic, destined to get shut out-type vibe, ugh…
i blame the heat

That's no Phillie's pitcher!
runs out to mound, rips off Blanton’s mask
See! It’s old man Santana from the New York Mets!!!
crowd gasps
Dagnabit! I would’ve pulled off a complete game too, had it not been for you nosy kids!

.455, 5 dingers, make that 6 now & just owning Loop. Wow, they have to find a different approach to pitching him.
I suggest a fastball right at the fanny

i think the first person to get seriously injured and sue MLB
is going to use a montage of Dan’s broadcast clips in their case
it has already happened
MLB’s policy is that when you buy a ticket, you assume the risks associated by balls or bats leaving the field of play
a woman in LA got seriously injured by a flying broken maple bat
