Lets hope for a win, the sad thing is that I don’t know if the brewers or cubs will ever lose again. Edmonds hit his 16th today but why do I feel like he would have been on the DL twice with 2 dingers if the cards would have kept him.

Hoping for a flood

Brewers and Cubs play each other…......so they have to lose at some point!

Edmonds will land on the DL yet.

The Brewers and Cubs will forget about the Cards, who will come back to make a race out of it when someone unexpected gets hot.

This season has been way to weird to end in a predictable fashion (or at least I hope that is the case).

If you are NEVER even coming close to selling out games (or 10% of the seats) in the upper deck

why not just give out free upper deck tickets, and let concessions make you money? An empty stadium is a completely stupid thing to have.

I work at a concert venue.

If tickets don’t sell out, there’ll be a ‘competition’ for tickets that everyone who enters wins, and then beer prices will be jacked up. It normally balances out.

by notmorganfreeman on Aug 13, 2008 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I've rarely been to a concert that isn't close to full

But these Marlins games are embarrasingly empty. And the same thing with the Expos back in the day. They should just give away tickets to the upper deck. It would be a fantastic advertising thing, too

They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...

they could build the greatest staduim in the world

and they still would never sell out a game. MLB has no business being in south Florida.

it was a stupid, stupid move & it’s going to continue embarrassing MLB till they get the Fish out of there.

I think you're on to something

Remember during the 2006 playoffs when the A’s just closed their upper deck? That was interesting. A problem with your idea though…let’s say they gave away free upper deck tickets – would anyone ever buy seats for the lower deck? I just imagine a strange scene where all the fans are in the upper deck.

by jdub176 on Aug 13, 2008 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Have the ushers at the gates down to the lower deck

If you sell a few fewer lower deck tickets, you’ll make the difference in money back in concessions. Especially since people will have this attitude like “the game’s free, might as well get a beer”

They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...

ah, ok

I assume you're talking about the grounder by Cantu?

If so, depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. If the other team’s trying to give you an out in the first inning, might as well take it especially if the guys not running. Now if he was bustin’ it down the line, then yeah you touch it foul since you aren’t going to get an out at by letting it role fair.

numbers are one of several tools that you can use to evaluate a player's capability

they tell you an important part of the story, but not the whole story.

They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...

true

this whole thing got blown out of proportion, but I think it’s a bit of a myth that D. Lee is such an amazing defender. don’t get me wrong, he’s second only to Pujols, and I’m sure that at one time D. Lee was better, but recently I’d have to go with APu.

once again it doesnt matter what team you are a fan of

How many gold gloves do they each have???? My point is if you look hard enough you can find a stat somewhere to back up any argument

yeah, becuse whoever wins the gold glove is clearly

the best player at his position

I just realized this was the same guy

who was saying the team was 0-5 in games where he posted on this board and that he was gonna keep posting because luck had to change eventually.

Kinda funny if he did actually get banned and then the team came back to win 6-4.

so do I

and you can’t tell me Lee is better either. Lee makes more plays where he dives instantly. Pujols makes more acrobatic(?) plays?

i think they have equal range and fielding ability

btu i would take dlee’s ability to dig that ball out of the dirt not that albert is bad at it i just dont know if i can remember ever seeing dlee miss one, plus he has been playing the position just a bit longer

by doug_4409 on Aug 13, 2008 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I've seen both of them

miss one this year. And I’ve seen Albert play ALOT more games.

AND

dlee can get to balls 4-5 inches higher than pujols can on high throws…

this

was an explanation for similar range numbers, giving pujols better range around the ball.
i think APu is a better fielder.

it doesn't affect things that much

I don’t think there’s that many balls thrown over the 1B’s head in a season

I was saying

that his extra reach goes not just up, but also to the side, therefore making throws that are more offline easier to handle, and then saying that, if both pujols and DLee’s fielding range is similar, it’s more impressive with pujols who has to be more aware of and perform better defensive plays to reach balls that would otherwise be out of his reach and in DLee’s reach.
Sorry, I had a long day, I don’t think i’m relaying the point that i mean to…

i wonder how we will screw up this opportunity and dont score a run

A. double play
B. strike out, then groundout or fly out
C. Weak pop up
D. thrown out at the plate

I wonder what kind of contract loop will get next season?

He’s an old man but he’s probably been more durable than anyone else, also he’s been able to continue pitching well late into the season after tiring out last year.
