There’s only a limit in gymnastics, I think. Great Britain has a 14 year-old kid diving in the men’s competition.

Studying the satellite images

Looks like there is a blob (that’s a technical term, BTW) of T-storms right around the stadium, with rain around that. Winds are only 7 mph, so it could take a while to pass. But it doesn’t look that serious. I’m not sure if it’s a good thing that we may lift Lohse or a bad thing.

Lincecum got hurt in the 5th

Hate to see that. Hope it’s not too serious – he’s the real deal.

by Merry CRasmus on Aug 12, 2008 9:38 PM EDT reply actions

Looked like something with the leg

Was doing the dishes when it happened. When I was done he was walking off the field.

FSN Houston had a chick interviewing some former player during it and she would not allow it to be interupted. The guy being interviewed seemed to know it was a big deal, because he kept trying to steer her back to what was going on on the field, but oh no, she was not to be detered. She kept plowing ahead.

So long story short…not sure, but he was limping pretty badly coming off the field.

by Merry CRasmus on Aug 12, 2008 9:55 PM EDT up reply actions

If he's walking

then that’s much better than it sounded at first.

everything in Florida is sand based. We dont have real dirt. Its either clay or sand. It would be nice if it drained post haste, so neither teams players slip and get hurt because of a crappy field.

Zona still gets two picks in the offseason tho...

... and they’ve got some SP depth. i still like it for them. they’re going for it this year, but also leaving themselves open for the next few years.

Reds rotation next year:

Arroyo
Volquez
Harang
Owings
Cueto

with Bailey waiting in the wings. that could be very good.

by kindred on Aug 12, 2008 10:36 PM EDT up reply actions

how can owings be a ptbnl?

he played in the same league this year as dunn.

sketchy

very sketchy.

I guess WJ could have a gentleman’s agreement to trade owings for $1 on 1 Nov, or something. But he can’t be a ptbnl, and if dunn was traded in July the astros, brewers and nats have a legitimate concern.

Granted, the reds have only won one game so far in august.

by gdm426 on Aug 12, 2008 11:22 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't buy that explanation

For his career, he goes opposite field 15.4% of the time, this season 10.7%, not a significant difference given the sample size of one season. Career slugging percentage going to opposite field is .567, this year .521

In other words, if he homers to opposite field in his next AB, he’d be slugging over his career average to right.

i can’t remember the last time i saw him hit a double or HR to right. in fact, according to those numbers, he only has one HR to right & only 5 doubles to right all season. that’s not the Albert Pujols we’ve all come to know & love.

Well,

once again our offense has nothing for the late innings. we really need some hitters toward the bottom of our lineup. re-freakin-diculous.

C'mon you Redbirds, lets prove em' wrong, again!

Absolutely no excuse.....

To go 27 straight outs without scoring a run.

I knew we were in trouble when we stopped at 3 runs in the 1st. Luddy on 2nd, and nobody out, but we had already scored 3 so we don’t take good AB’s.

Games like this hurt.

agree with you on that

volstad’s pitch count was close to 30 in the first inning (may have gone over) and was 72 after 5 innings. That’s pathetic.

i know they can't win every game

but this pattern of the O scoring in the first few innings & the going to sleep for the rest of the game has to stop. our lower half of the line up, which is usually the MI’s, is a black hole of suck. our line up is full of streaky hitters. we need more consistency all across the board.

i dnot know what, if any thing can be done in the next month & a half to fix it, but MO has to do something this winter to fix the problem. good luck MO.

It's what you get...

When you have a lineup full of singles hitters that don’t walk (or steal bases). Unless you string them all in one inning (which is basically what happened), you aren’t going to score.

Look at the number of XBH the lineup has:

Pujols – 52
Lud – 56
Ank – 45
Glaus – 50

That’s solid. But then look at the rest

Skippy – 30
Izzy2 – 13
Lopez – 22
Yadi – 20

unfortunately

27=0 is nothing new

a weird thing that i agree can be mostly attributed to not being patient at the plate. we should have been in their bullpen in the 4th inning. i suspect that our game plans become obvious to our opponents very quickly and they adjust and we don’t. i’m talking about what to throw who on the first pitch or with two strikes. doesn’t possible, but …..i guess we need to hire some consultants from the rangers

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, perhaps you haven't grasped the situation!
