Overflow thread #1

I hope that there's a little less venom in this one than in the regular game thread.  Maybe a Cards comeback will do it.  Let's go Cards.

Think Edmonds should “rot in hell?” Want him dead? As much bile as you’ve spewed on him the last few days I’ll be the answer is yes. I never knew youi to be one to suck on Tony’s teat morning, noon, and night but, I guess when Jimmy hurts your feelings, it all comes out!

easy guys

go cards

by Cards Fan in Chitown on Aug 10, 2008 9:18 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Again, it's the blind defense of Edmonds

that gets me. It’s like he is a close personal friend. Did I say I wanted him dead or to rot in hell? No. In fact, I’ve said that I want him to succeed.

But I also think he should be hit for what he said. And for the bat flip toward the dugout. Just a nice fastball in the backside. That’s all.

by Hardcore Legend on Aug 10, 2008 9:19 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

2 others

did say they wanted Jimmy to rot in hell and that they wanted him dead. On this board, that would qualify as “venom.” Maintain your sarcastic pose if you must - “don’t speak ill of Jimmy!” - but shit like that doesn’t belong on this board…period. And I shouldn’t have to spend this much time justifying that to people who’ve been here for years. You know better, Hardcore.

by chuckb on Aug 10, 2008 9:21 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And so do you.

The way you acted as if I was a hen with it’s head cut off in the Edmonds thread was shameful.

We can agree to disagree.

by Hardcore Legend on Aug 10, 2008 9:23 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

so it's personal, huh?

You acted immaturely. You weren’t alone. Jimmy didn’t personally insult you or any other Cardinal fan. Feel free to feel insulted by his comments but I feel you and others misunderstood them. You’re taking it far too seriously.

As for the threads, it is “bile” to suggest that other players get drilled simply b/c they make good catches and hit homers against your team. It is venom to state that players should “rot in hell.” It is venom to state that they want that player dead. You didn’t do it but when I used the word “venom” I didn’t specifically address you.

There has been a LOT of venom here the last couple of weeks. It started (I think) when fans were all pissed off about the Brewers sweeping the Cards. There’s been a ton of whining about how little class they have, about how their players should be drilled, etc. And now it carries over to the Cubs…or not really the Cubs, just Edmonds. Why? he hit 2 homers, made nice catches, and said he was tired of dealing w/ Tony. Fans, being fans, took this personally and now they want him “drilled” and killed. That’s what’s shameful.

by chuckb on Aug 10, 2008 9:32 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I don't even know what that means

I’m sorry you feel insulted by what Jimmy said. I don’t feel that he was talking about you or any other Cardinals fan. If you feel that I have invalidated your feelings through what I said, I apologize. But he wasn’t insulting Cardinals fans. He wasn’t addressing them at all. “The Cardinals” do not, in my humble opinion, include us…the fans. It is Tony and the rest of the organization and I don’t get why people like you have taken it so seriously.

That said, I probably shouldn’t have implied that you were wrong to be insulted by those words. I do think you misunderstood him and have no reason to feel insulted.

by chuckb on Aug 10, 2008 9:43 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And go ahead and find the 'bile'

I’ve spewed on him. Spoke ill? Yes. Said what he did was wrong? Yes. But someone is over-reacting and it isn’t me.

But this doesn’t really need to continue, this back and forth. Say your piece and we will be done with it.

by Hardcore Legend on Aug 10, 2008 9:21 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Oh.

THAT venom.

One of the guys in my office is a Cubs’ fan, and a good guy. We’re both New Yorkers (he’s originally from Chicago). It’s harder to get all rancorous when the guy rooting for your team’s rival is a human being.

The non-human fans of other teams I ignore. Life’s too short.

by glennrwordman on Aug 10, 2008 9:15 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Let me try again.

It’s not worth it to be nasty on a board. I root hard for my guys, and hope they do well.

There are aholes who root for other teams that try to stir st. I find it best to pay ‘em no mind. Better?

Whoops.

I don’t like bringing the IF in in that situation. Get the out. I would hope that a 2 run lead isn’t the end of the night for us.
