Game 92 Open Thread- 9th July, 2008

Mulder_mark_medium Happ_ja_medium

Mulder                    J.A. Happ

0-0, 13.50                0-0, 3.86

I don't really have any kind of detailed analysis to offer all of you tonight. I can tell you that Happ has walked more batters (4), than he has struck out (3). He's only thrown 4.2 innings, though, so it's tough to really draw many conclusions from that.

As for Mulder, I don't know what to say. I guess we'll all just have to hope for the best.

Good luck, Mark. Let's see if you've got anything left.

this looks like a game that could have a lot of runs scored.

it’ll probably turn out to be a 1-0 game though, baseballs screwy like that

Rick Ankiel could throw out Chuck Norris. Easy.

If the Phils...

are ever going to post another 20 spot on us, tonight is the night.

by guayzimi on Jul 9, 2008 6:48 PM EDT   0 recs

i doubt it.

i don’t think tlr would leave mulder out to dry like that. if he gives up 6 runs in 3 innings or something, he’ll be out of there.

the phils could put up 10, but not 20.

20 runs...

Makes me think of this Mulder start: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHA/CHA200606200.shtml

That was such a painful series…..

"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." tlr confirms (on the radio) that he will have a quick hook, bringing in thompson or someone else

What would Mulder have to do?

In order to take his comeback seriously?

by Harknights on Jul 9, 2008 6:48 PM EDT   0 recs

i'd take 5 ip, 3 er, or 6 ip, 4 er

that’d be a not-good-but-serious start.

I don't really have any justification for it,

but for some reason I’m feeling optimistic about Mulder’s start tonight. Obviously not 10 inning shutout optimistic, but something on the order of five innings, two earned runs optimistic.

I wish I could agree with you

It’s possible, I just cannot see it happening

i'm with lboros

i have absolutely no idea what to think about this game. i know i’m not confident, but it’s really hard for me to have any prediction at all.

e'rebuilding mang

by nycbirdo on Jul 9, 2008 6:52 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

not optimistic either

but we need to know. I’m glad he’s starting. My heart will be in my throat.

by the Tewk on Jul 9, 2008 6:54 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I agree with lboros'

post from last week on Mulder. Unless he can get the ball down with that new arm slot he is in real trouble.

indeed.

i guess the capital letters should have tipped me off.

by nycbirdo on Jul 9, 2008 7:23 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah, it's probably just foolish optimism

Like I said, I don’t really have any sound reason for feeling that way – just my gut, which historically hasn’t really been a good predictor of anything except my need to eat. And it’ll just be that much more painful for me if he crashes and burns tonight….

by BTown Birds fan on Jul 9, 2008 6:54 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

hoping for

5 innings, Mulder leaves with the lead, bullpen holds on for him to get the win
probably 7-6

the pessimistic side is worried he wont record an out and get hit hard by about 7 Phils before we go to the pen

by vances law on Jul 9, 2008 7:15 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

This sure does sound like a loss.

But, I guess that’s why they play the games. The Phils offense got shutdown last night. No way they do again. As for Mulder, I wish I could be more optimistic, but I’m saying he doesn’t make it into the 4th, and we’ll be down by 5 or 6.

I think Orel just had his info wrong

According to ESPN

A-Rod zones out when they play a Madona song at his gym.

Hehe. Sorry. I don’t know. Just Monday he was clear to start light throwing. They just announced yesterday.

but I never believe what they say until it is cross-verified elsewhere

From Derrick Goold:

“It has been nearly 25 months since Mark Mulder’s last victory, and even longer since the last time he registered an out in the sixth inning or had a quality start.”

no idea….john said that the rain was starting to let up…...there was still a lot of water on the field, but he said it should dry soon

so not sure what the wait is…..

by NorseKaiser on Jul 9, 2008 7:03 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

think of this, tho

if Mulder goes five strong, and shows no ill effects afterward… doesn’t that BEGIN to chip away at the CC and Harden deals?

by the Tewk on Jul 9, 2008 6:59 PM EDT   0 recs

this season has been so good because of the surprises so far

mulder could be one of them…..certainly the biggest one so far…...but it could happen

by NorseKaiser on Jul 9, 2008 7:00 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

um. No

well unless you mean like chipping away at solid steel with a putty knife. Then yes.

so since it’s on ESPN, I suppose that I would want it to be postponed until at least 9pm, at least that’s what’s good for me.

so I’m going to have a blast, don’t mind losing some coin if Mark decides to pull one out of his ass though.

If Sabathia and Harden...

are worth 2-3 wins, we could acquire Bonds for nothing but money, use Skippy or Duncan to acquire a reliever, and get those 2-3 wins back in short order.

Just sayin’...
