Game 92 Open Thread- 9th July, 2008

Mulder_mark_medium Happ_ja_medium

Mulder                    J.A. Happ

0-0, 13.50                0-0, 3.86

I don't really have any kind of detailed analysis to offer all of you tonight. I can tell you that Happ has walked more batters (4), than he has struck out (3). He's only thrown 4.2 innings, though, so it's tough to really draw many conclusions from that.

As for Mulder, I don't know what to say. I guess we'll all just have to hope for the best.

Good luck, Mark. Let's see if you've got anything left.

this looks like a game that could have a lot of runs scored.

it’ll probably turn out to be a 1-0 game though, baseballs screwy like that

Rick Ankiel could throw out Chuck Norris. Easy.

If the Phils...

are ever going to post another 20 spot on us, tonight is the night.

by guayzimi on Jul 9, 2008 6:48 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i doubt it.

i don’t think tlr would leave mulder out to dry like that. if he gives up 6 runs in 3 innings or something, he’ll be out of there.

the phils could put up 10, but not 20.

20 runs...

Makes me think of this Mulder start: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHA/CHA200606200.shtml

That was such a painful series…..

"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." What would Mulder have to do?

In order to take his comeback seriously?

by Harknights on Jul 9, 2008 6:48 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I don't really have any justification for it,

but for some reason I’m feeling optimistic about Mulder’s start tonight. Obviously not 10 inning shutout optimistic, but something on the order of five innings, two earned runs optimistic.

i have absolutely no idea what to think about this game. i know i’m not confident, but it’s really hard for me to have any prediction at all.

post from last week on Mulder. Unless he can get the ball down with that new arm slot he is in real trouble.

Yeah, it's probably just foolish optimism

Like I said, I don’t really have any sound reason for feeling that way – just my gut, which historically hasn’t really been a good predictor of anything except my need to eat. And it’ll just be that much more painful for me if he crashes and burns tonight….

by BTown Birds fan on Jul 9, 2008 6:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

hoping for

5 innings, Mulder leaves with the lead, bullpen holds on for him to get the win
probably 7-6

the pessimistic side is worried he wont record an out and get hit hard by about 7 Phils before we go to the pen

by vances law on Jul 9, 2008 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This sure does sound like a loss.

But, I guess that’s why they play the games. The Phils offense got shutdown last night. No way they do again. As for Mulder, I wish I could be more optimistic, but I’m saying he doesn’t make it into the 4th, and we’ll be down by 5 or 6.

Injuries are a part of sports, I don’t get why Mark is being blamed for trying. He could have hung it up before and sat back and taken his check. Would that have been better?

this is truely a sad day, I have just watch the end of a man’s career. I was always a big fan of mulder and see him end it all like this is shocking. I always thought he would be like john tudor, except he originally threw harder. Wow i am just depressed.

He always struck me as a really cool guy

It’s hard to watch his arm give out on him like this. Money and fame he has, but as a professional competitor this has got to be a crushing day for him. I can’t imagine he’s going to want to go through extensive rehab again.

Thompson, Reyes, Parisi, or Boggs that we’re going to be behind them, and quit bouncing them all over the place. Clearly playing rollercoaster for the Mulder experiments and the like isn’t wise.

'Stache

I’m hoping that La Russa wears one of the novelty Giambi mustaches they gave out at Yankee Stadium today at his press conference tonight. It’s cheer me up after seeing Mulder crash and burn.

Why is Giambi's mustache getting all the pub?

becuase the Yanks have had a no facial hair policy for years

and now he gets to have a stache. and he looks like a 70’s cop/porn star who’s playing first for the Yankees.

Giambi’s looks like he may have stolen it

I suppose because Giambi has an ironic stache

and Larue’s is for real

the s in espn should stand for ‘stache. did anyone see joe girardi wearing one after the game today? hilarious.

Puppy Kicker, but if this is kept up for another inning or two, if he was under the arches in this game, he’d get a standing o’ from me. If nothing else, just the sheer situation.

out of curiosity

Izturis OPS = .613 for the season…..is there a Mendoza line for OPS? Probably around .600, right?

by nota bene on Jul 9, 2008 9:08 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

yeah, it's called the Kennedy Line.

It’s main characteristic is SLG being lower than OBP.
