Not a good start toward taht goal

What is it about below average leftys like Marshall

that gives the Cards such a fit. His stuff isn’t that good and they are making solid contact, but they can’t seem to get any runs on the board.

by TheBirds on Jul 6, 2008 4:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

FWIW

Marshall 58 thru 4

And another bloop

Johnson is sooo good. David Eckstien in OF form.

OUCH

poor fielding there.

We could use it

but since Ramirez hits 1.4748754 at Busch Stadium, not likely.

Dangit

I wish I woulda thought about that first…i only wanted the triple play

by stlfan on Jul 6, 2008 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

that would bode well

that way they’d only have to get 2 outs the next inning.

by Tackle Box on Jul 6, 2008 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Mather

I thought he was suppose to better than Chris Ducan defense wise?

by Evilfrog on Jul 6, 2008 4:33 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

LOL

I cringe at the thought of Duncan fielding that.

by TheBirds on Jul 6, 2008 4:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah it would have

there would have been a giant hole in the wall.

by TheBirds on Jul 6, 2008 4:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sorry

I’m just looking out for the safety of the fans in the stands.

by TheBirds on Jul 6, 2008 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I feel like everyone else is watching a different game

That ball was 2 inches from being a HR. How in the world was Mather to blame on that play?

Then Ankiel very nearly throws a guy out at 3rd. I’d say it was a hell of a job to get out of a bases-loaded, no outs situation with only one run.

by effin fisk on Jul 6, 2008 4:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

it was good to get out of that

Mather didn’t put himself in position to make a play on that ball. He might not have caught it. But if he took a good route he would have had a much better chance.

by Evilfrog on Jul 6, 2008 4:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Mather played like 4 different positions as he came up through the minors

I saw him myself in Springfield. I don’t think he has a ton of experience in Left field. Even so, he just barely missed snagging that ball. It’s one thing if you say that you think she should’ve caught the ball. Its quite another to assume that Duncan would’ve made that play, or somehow missed the play with more grace or something.

I don’t understand the mentality that every one of our players is expected to play like a hall-of-famer 100% of the time.

by effin fisk on Jul 6, 2008 4:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I dont have a problem with players making a mistake

People just kept telling me that Mather is better than Duncan. I haven’t seen it yet. Let’s see how Mathers bat does here. Runner at 3rd. All he needs is a fly ball.

by Evilfrog on Jul 6, 2008 4:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

This is a frustrating game. Wellemeyer really seems to be pitching better than the score.

problem is

only the cubs are scoring. he’s sorta doing his job against a very powerful offense. Problem is our offense hasn’t arrived at the ballpark just yet.

Nice DP

but Welley is simply way too hittable right now. Put the guy on the 15 day DL and let him rest his arm/elbow.

he's pitched fine

they are getting only singles, and many on the ground. Plus he’s throwing strikes. I think he’s just been unlucky and somewhat rusty. Pitched better than most of our other starters.

by enoscountry on Jul 6, 2008 4:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

on the plus side

Do all soft tossing average lefties take 3 minutes between pitches? I would not hit well either…I’d be asleep at the plate…

move up on the plate and in the box. Make the guy pitch inside.

Cubs = bloop singles

Cardinals = Sean Marshall’s dream lineup (except the Luddy hr)

by Tackle Box on Jul 6, 2008 5:03 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

Welly was fine for the most part

scattered 9 hits (8 singles) over 5 innings.

Cardinal hitters have either seemed mystified by Marshall’s curve or have hit it right at fielders. For some reason, it seemed like too many opposite field fly balls against this type of pitcher.
