Need another zero from Wellemeyer
I think we can get some runs this inning.

What is it about below average leftys like Marshall
that gives the Cards such a fit. His stuff isn’t that good and they are making solid contact, but they can’t seem to get any runs on the board.

And another bloop
Johnson is sooo good. David Eckstien in OF form.

Wellemeyer should elevate the ball more
they are only crushing these for singles.

At least it was high enough that Mather fooled the runner on 2b

Shannon is pissed
about the All-Star Team, isn’t he? Still going on about it

We could use it
but since Ramirez hits 1.4748754 at Busch Stadium, not likely.

that would bode well
that way they’d only have to get 2 outs the next inning.

Mather
I thought he was suppose to better than Chris Ducan defense wise?
by Evilfrog on Jul 6, 2008 4:33 PM EDT 0 recs
I think he's remembering that play from like the first week of the season where Duncan did just that

I feel like everyone else is watching a different game
That ball was 2 inches from being a HR. How in the world was Mather to blame on that play?
Then Ankiel very nearly throws a guy out at 3rd. I’d say it was a hell of a job to get out of a bases-loaded, no outs situation with only one run.

it was good to get out of that
Mather didn’t put himself in position to make a play on that ball. He might not have caught it. But if he took a good route he would have had a much better chance.

Mather played like 4 different positions as he came up through the minors
I saw him myself in Springfield. I don’t think he has a ton of experience in Left field. Even so, he just barely missed snagging that ball. It’s one thing if you say that you think she should’ve caught the ball. Its quite another to assume that Duncan would’ve made that play, or somehow missed the play with more grace or something.
I don’t understand the mentality that every one of our players is expected to play like a hall-of-famer 100% of the time.

I dont have a problem with players making a mistake
People just kept telling me that Mather is better than Duncan. I haven’t seen it yet. Let’s see how Mathers bat does here. Runner at 3rd. All he needs is a fly ball.

Boy, the Pirates sure do us
no favors.
The beat us, get pounded by the Cubs and Brewers.

Yeah
This is a frustrating game. Wellemeyer really seems to be pitching better than the score.

problem is
only the cubs are scoring. he’s sorta doing his job against a very powerful offense. Problem is our offense hasn’t arrived at the ballpark just yet.

Nice DP
but Welley is simply way too hittable right now. Put the guy on the 15 day DL and let him rest his arm/elbow.

he's pitched fine
they are getting only singles, and many on the ground. Plus he’s throwing strikes. I think he’s just been unlucky and somewhat rusty. Pitched better than most of our other starters.

now SCORE SOME RUNS. grr.
I have a love/hate relationship with the Cardinals' middle relief corps.

well, I almost expect it against the Rays…you definitely know they’ll be on all 4 games v. the Yanks…but they are subjecting the world to the Orioles…c’mon. Isn’t there a Colorado/KC game on or something?

it would be a bad move to put the pitcher in iz2's spot
kinda defeats the purpose of the double switch.
