What is it about below average leftys like Marshall

that gives the Cards such a fit. His stuff isn’t that good and they are making solid contact, but they can’t seem to get any runs on the board.

OUCH

I cringe at the thought of Duncan fielding that.

Sorry

I’m just looking out for the safety of the fans in the stands.

by TheBirds on Jul 6, 2008 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions

I feel like everyone else is watching a different game

That ball was 2 inches from being a HR. How in the world was Mather to blame on that play?

Then Ankiel very nearly throws a guy out at 3rd. I’d say it was a hell of a job to get out of a bases-loaded, no outs situation with only one run.

by effin fisk on Jul 6, 2008 4:34 PM EDT up reply actions

it was good to get out of that

Mather didn’t put himself in position to make a play on that ball. He might not have caught it. But if he took a good route he would have had a much better chance.

by Evilfrog on Jul 6, 2008 4:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Mather played like 4 different positions as he came up through the minors

I saw him myself in Springfield. I don’t think he has a ton of experience in Left field. Even so, he just barely missed snagging that ball. It’s one thing if you say that you think she should’ve caught the ball. Its quite another to assume that Duncan would’ve made that play, or somehow missed the play with more grace or something.

I don’t understand the mentality that every one of our players is expected to play like a hall-of-famer 100% of the time.

by effin fisk on Jul 6, 2008 4:38 PM EDT up reply actions

I dont have a problem with players making a mistake

People just kept telling me that Mather is better than Duncan. I haven’t seen it yet. Let’s see how Mathers bat does here. Runner at 3rd. All he needs is a fly ball.

by Evilfrog on Jul 6, 2008 4:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah

This is a frustrating game. Wellemeyer really seems to be pitching better than the score.

if tt's true, and i'm an Indians fan, i'm pissed

they should have held out for more of the Brew Crews prospects. as it stands now, it’s an OK to an alright deal for both teams. but the Indians really should have gotten a lot more for CC. i’m really surprised they didn’t knowing Mark’s history like i do. i mean, look what he got for Colon a few years ago? CC should have brought the same caliber of prospects, in fact probably better prospects because he’s a lefty.

in other news, the mets & Phills are in the 11th inning after a 3+ hour rain delay. they play the 4th game of the series tomorrow night. lets hope they blow out the Phills pitching staff before we roll into town. and out west, for some reason the Mariners used a position player to pitch the top of the 14th & he gave up the winning run to the Tigers in a 2-1 game.

eh

6 years of Matt LaPorta is pretty awesome for 3 months of CC. LaPorta’s as close to a sure thing as you can get and is certainly a few steps above the draft compensation for CC walking at the end of the year. Not to mention a high-upside arm and a few toss ins. . . it’s not a bad haul. The days of 2-3 top prospects for a veteran are in the past.
