Most important game this season so far.
The Cards really should have a chip on their shoulder after the umpire shanigans and loosing the first game at home to the Cubs. If they don’t come out today and beat up Lilly and take control of this game….I will have big doubts about this team being a “real contender”.
FREE BRIAN BARTON!!!!
Today’s lineup:
Ryan 6
Ankiel 8
Pujols 3
Glaus 5
Ludwick 9
Molina 2
Kennedy 4
Lohse 1
Schumaker 7
ryan is actually having a solid year
against lefties .339/.381/.390
I think having him lead off is a good choice…......maybe TLR is starting to believe in stats as well as what his eyes can see
Barton would be a better choice over Skippy though for the 9th spot and LF
Garth...
that was a haiku…
I once shot a man just to see him die...then I got distracted and missed it.
WHY DOES MAJOR LEAGE BASEBALL SCHEDULE YANKEES-RED SOX OVER CARDINALS-CUBS???!!!!!
And also, why does FOX Austin choose Yankess-sox over the Astros’ two division rivals, sitting atop their division?
They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...
same reason on the NW market
we have yanks red sox
I can't believe i gave up a homerun to that punch and judy hitter-major league 2
I just don't get why mlb wants to schedule two games that they KNOW should be highly rated
on top of each other. I can at least get why, thanks to the ESPN-ification of sports coverage, why most affiliates would opt for yanks sox, even if I find their reasoning faulty.
They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...
plus
it should be semi regional… In the northwest if the Ms,As,LAD,LAA,or SF arent playing then why not Cubs cards plus as you menitoned its a rivalry and top 2 in the division.
I can't believe i gave up a homerun to that punch and judy hitter-major league 2
At some point I am going to write about this as a fan post or something
but the media really is killing baseball for the whole country by only focusing on the two East Coast teams all the time. It really is a shame that MLB seems to sit on their hands about this. To me this is a FAR bigger problem than instant replay and maybe even steroids. MLB can learn a lot from the NFL about promoting other teams around the country and getting more coverage for teams in other markets other than the NY/Boston area.
May
Albert walk past that honorable number in a Manny like fashion passing the number and returning to season form.
May Glaus bring his emotions from the 9th inning last night and carry them through his at bats for a while. A mad Glaus could storm very well towards his own mark. #300 and doing it as a Cardinal. (ever had two #300 marks hit in the same year, same team before?)
May Lohse correct the lores of his past and attack the Cubs in a different fashion than he did in the past, as he’s our standing ace.
Let’s even this up and take it to a deciding Sunday.

It is better than 3 run shots, but this is ridiculous. Every pitcher on the staff likes to give up solo homers? Is Duncan encouraging them to be too aggressive with no one on base?

So a couple bad at bats
means a slump? Interesting logic.
Alot of players get mad when they strike out, and Glaus is probably still a bit ticked over the horrendous calls last night in his last at bat.
boo cubs, hooray beer
But, that is what I think will send him into the slump.
A lot of the game seems to be in Glaus’ head. Not like Albert who you know can shake it off in the next at bat. It sticks with Glaus, though. The at-bats transfer into the next at-bats. A couple go bad and a whole lot can go bad.
He was just mad at himself

As someone who has followed Glaus his entire career, rest assured that this isn’t “slump” Glaus.
The Glaus who slumps gets a lot of called strikes (not seeing a strikezone), then first pitch swings.

I agree
The plan was to be careful, strike out Lilly and then get out of it. He made a decent pitch and they scored a run.
Good teams will score runs. The fact Lohse (or Looper) only gives up a couple runs is good. In order to be a good team, however, we also have score, which at the moment we are incapable of except for the occasional solo homer.
Cards v Angels could be the first scoreless game in history.....

and thus far we are showing we are not worthy of being even a wild card team. I guess I was expecting a little more fire out of our boys today….we can’t continue to be owned by the likes of Ted Lilly and expect to get anywhere..

Injuries (+mental – Izzy).
Injuries have wrecked the SP, put the bullpen in disarray to a point of using our solid peices a lot more than we should have.
