I told my wife before the inning started
I have a bad feeling about Piniero going another inning. I hate those bad feelings.
oh brother

think I’m gonna go barf now.
Six runs against an AAA
lineup…..well, say adios to your starting job, Joel
do not understand why you say that
they are not going to just keep on throwing him out there when there are better options
They say I look like yadier molina
Brad Thompson could switch roles with Pin

Until we need someone to relieve Carp during pitch count concerns, or Welly, or when Waino comes back..
Thompson has been badass in long relief, if anything let’s not fix something that has actually been working in the pen

weird, I just typed in a reply to this and hit post and it disappeared
where did it go? I was just saying that you were right. Pineiro just needs to do his job better

Boggs needs a changeup
his slurve is cake for LHB and they’re sitting on an overexposed (though, a brilliant) fastball.
LHB splits are the core of why he has issues.
When he has that changeup, he’ll be ok

There are?
Could you explain who is the better option?

Thompson is overvalued as a starter, and has shoulder fatigue issues.
Garcia is a prospect that we need to protect from inning burn out as he has injury concerns too.
Who else?

stamina
definitely an issue, but we’re also 2/3 of the way thru the season. Maybe Tony could have Garcia AND Thompson work as tag team starters…..one starts and tries to get the game to the 4th or 5th, and then the other guy tries to get it to the back of the bullpen in the 8th or 9th.
I dunno. Pineiro is looking pretty pathetic recently….
when Wainwright comes back
it’ll be him or Looper (presumably). I don’t know who goes to the pen. I wouldn’t say no chance in hell but I wouldn’t say that Tony and Duncan will see many better options either.
If Carp is ok and Waino comes back, I’ll agree. But those aren’t known quantities at the moment, thus they aren’t true options.

amen borther
he gets a couple more, 3 at the most, to prove he doesn’t go to the pen. and that all depends of when wainer comes back

With Welly, Carp, Waino all having injury and short inning issues for the short to long term, and with Pin lacking any real depth innings wise – Thompson is better suited to long man, we need him there.

Pineiro
it’s amazing how similar his numbers were entering this game to last year’s.
‘07 - 97.2 IP, 110 H, 14 HR, 26 BB, 60 K
‘08 - 97.2 IP, 120 H, 11 HR, 25 BB, 49 K
I know there was some sort of mystical presumption that Duncan would turn him into a good pitcher, but the results so far this year don’t bear that out.
i think he did pitch better
when he came over to the nl, but yes he got a lil over hyped as being something special
"Textbooks are Soviet propaganda" - Rev. Jerry Falwell
And it was about 70 innings or so that he pitched for us....
I think everyone got excited because he did better than everyone else we had. Definitely bought high IMO.
She isn't crazy, she's just not impressed.
Unfortunately we ponied up the cash for him

I don't know if we have a come back in us tonight
3 of 4 isn’t bad, even though we should sweep a team with this bad of a lineup. Thank you Jason Larue and Joel Pineiro.
Let’s hope the boys can take care of business at home FOR ONCE, and beat the Phils.

Exactly
imagine Molina coming up in the first with the bases loaded instead of Larue. Especially with the way that Molina crushed LH Pitching.
But, you knew TLR would run out his scrub lineup tonight, so it’s not that big of a surprise.

I'm pissy
after watching Pineiro pitch like Jimenez and Jimenez pitch like Pineiro and our offense’s complete inability to hit Hampton. How we allowed him to hang around for 5 innings is beyond me. He’s awful.
Look at the lineup TLR put out there
that’s all you need to know on why we didn’t rake Hampton. Izturis, Ryan, LaRue, Miles as your #6 hitter? This lineup was destined to get shut down. Especially against a soft tossing lefty.

at least it shouldn't be
extremely difficult to score 5 or more runs on the ATL’s bullpen… but we also need to save up some runs for the Phillies series, as scientific as that sounds.

I don’t know
One would think that resting Glaus and Yadi would pay dividends as the season trolls along.
I’d rather see a game lost that was with Pin at the helm and Kelvin cleaning up than losing one where we have a starter rolling and a pen coughs it up, or burning a few guys in the pen.

"You know, I got mixed messages from the team today."
”...Tony puts together that lineup, I think they’ve given up. They get the bases loaded with 1 out and 2-0 lead in the first, I think they want to win. Jason LaRue hits into a crippling double play. I think they give up. I get us the lead back, I think they want to win. Albert Pujols hits into a double play that costs us 2 runs, I think they give up. If they just woulda told me what they wanted me to do, I would have done it.”

Angels
I’m watching the Angels game. It’s so depressing to think of our bullpen after watching one like theirs.
On with the (good) youth movement!
Are the Dodgers the favorites in the West
by picking up Manny? I think they are. The Dodgers were missing that one big impact bat since Andrew Jones was a failure to put them over the top in my opinion. As long as Manny doesn’t dog it in LA I would think they are the favorites to win the weak NL West now. I can’t stand Manny but I will laugh if he hits some monster HRs in the playoffs against the Cubs and knocks them out. Manny vs. Big Z will be quite a sight.
I’m happy for Griffey that he might get one last chance in the playoffs. Griffey is about done but I think he has a few more good months left in him.
and hes just started to hit well too

why can non-contending teams release their awful players but we can’t seem to bring ourselves to do it?
by Hardcore Legend on Aug 1, 2008 1:01 AM EDT up reply actions
I brought this up in a game thread last weekend
about how the Cards over the past couple of years seem to refuse to DFA/release anyone during the season. It puzzles me to no end. We either put them on the DL (Izzy, Flores, Duncan) or keep them on the bench (Kennedy) or we keep troting them out there (Izturis).
How lucky is Adam Kennedy and Izturis….if they were with any other team in baseball (especially a contender) I would think they would have been released months ago….Kennedy and Flores for sure.
A lot of the moves and decisions the front office has made since 2006
has been puzzling and weird and some even borderline silly to me. This includes Walt at the end of his run and now with Mo. For every good move (Rolen for Glaus) (signing Lohse) we get 3 or 4 pretty poor ones like the signings of Izturis, Kennedy, the extentions of Pinero and Franklin and giving C. Duncan numerous chances to be up with the team when he isn’t hitting a lick.
remember that game Joel pitched vs the Mets last year?
yeah, uh, what happened to that guy?
I'm going to go try to find a puppy and kick it. - Brad Thompson AND THAT'S A WINNER!
I hope he comes back soon because he was nowhere to be found in July.
In six starts this month, Pineiro has allowed 56 hits and 24 runs in 33 innings. Now THAT IS UGLY!!
What drives me crazy
is that this team can get my hopes up like the first 3 games of the Braves series and then we get another outing from Joel that reminds me that we are a team with essentially three #4 starters with Pinero, Looper & Wellemeyer in our rotation. I hate to say it but man I envy the Cubs rotation compaired to ours.
Will FOX get their dream post season?
It’s still two months until October but you just know the suites up at FOX Sports are dreaming of a playoffs with All the big markets involved. looking at the standings this could be a reality.
Can you imagine their ratings wet dream of these teams getting into the playoffs.
AL: New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago
NL: New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles.
Of course let’s hope the Cardinals, Rays, Snakes, Twins and Marlins burst their bubble.
Yes, it is possible
but not likely. New York (NL) won’t make the playoffs. Only one of New York/Boston will make the playoffs. Arizona is going to win the West.
The most likely scenerio?
AL: Tampa, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles
NL: Philadelphia, Chicago, Miami, Arizona
by Hardcore Legend on Aug 1, 2008 2:46 AM EDT up reply actions
I agree with your scenerio
although I am picking the Dodgers over Arizona. But something tells me to not count out the Twins in the AL Central.
