exactly

I’m both elated and nervous. It’s good that he’s healthy enough for them to even consider it, but it’s terrible that we need him at all….

by nota bene on Jul 26, 2008 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If he's on a pitch count, and they're careful with him, I don't see what hte harm could be

What is he going to do? Give up more runs than Boggs would?

They say that it's never too late, but you don't get any younger...

There is a difference I think

between a rehab start and a ML start. Even on a pitch count. When he gets his competitive juices flowing he might not be as cautious as he would be in Memphis.

I agree with the elated + nervous consensus!!

It's no coincidence that Carps start is the day before the deadline

but even if Carp goes out and pitches well, we still have a terrible bullpen and an incredibly inconsistent offense.

I don’t watch many Mets games on SNY, but their announcing crew is the best – Cohen, Hernandez and Darling. Keith is the best of the three – very frank, honest and he’s not a homer.

well he's a country boy and

he was working on a tractor or old car of his and he was messing with the wiring and he grabbed the ground wire or something and electrocuted himself pretty severely. anyways, at the time he had some lingering scar tissue and was having trouble with it in his pitching shoulder. after the incident he said he was fine and we’ve all seen the results -game 6 2007. just wondering if i were mulder if i would consider something like that at this point.

yet on a day A rey got dealt

Pinero on the mound is fitting..he has been this years poor luck guy more than once yet doesnt have the appologists reyes has. He has a ton of ND…poor run support most of the time…He has pitched better than his record..maybe if his name was different he’d get more love.

by punchinjudy on Jul 26, 2008 7:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I compared Piniero favorably to Jeff Suppan when we extended him, but he’s never pitched a 1-hitter like Reyes has and doesn’t have the strikeout ability. If Reyes had turned out to be what was expected of him, he would have been a far, far better pitcher than the sole survivor of planet Krypton.

by liam on Jul 26, 2008 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

true

but i was refering to his lack of run support..and true reyes has talent..which we saw one in every 20 starts? noone has pointed out that joel gets lil runs cept for tonight..he is too pricey thats true.

Won’t hear me complaining about his W-L record. His strikeout rate this year is dangerously low is the problem. Can’t expect all the contact he’s allowing to find gloves. All those hits are what gets his pitch count up and keeps him from going deep into games.

by liam on Jul 26, 2008 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

agreed

just saying a rey had the same issues with going deep..and run support.. talent they are not comparable..cause we saw what a rey could do..maybe a change will do him well.. stop thinking and just throw..

or maybe if he wasn't a crappy pitcher

at least Reyes was cheap. Pineiro and his 47 Ks in 93 innings don’t get a lot of sympathy. He’s not been particularly unlucky (BABIP might be a touch high but his HR/FB rate is low).

by azruavatar on Jul 26, 2008 7:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He was moved to first to put off the need for surgery. He was playing left for a few weeks with instructions not to throw the ball in, just to get him in the lineup (had to give Tino a chance to get his act together, of course).

He was playing through some pretty bad pain late last year and said that he wouldn’t do it again, that’s why the chatter.

It wouldn't be THAT bad

but I think the bullpen would be helped more by having Wagonmaker in the rotation than having him in the ‘pen.

Paradoxically, yo.

by liam on Jul 26, 2008 8:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

not sure about that

when you start you never know if he’ll get run support or not. out of the pen, you have better control of putting him situations where he can make a difference for winning vs. losing. plus, it’s not like we have tremendous quality in the pen. may be overworked, but that doesn’‘t mean less work will you a better pitcher. toss-up to me

Not sure why he was leaving the door open for Wain going to the bullpen.

The bullpen knows someone’s coming from the rotation to help shoulder the load.

that's what i'm thinking too

John Wasdin

The dude’s on a tear his last two starts. Through six tonight, he’s struck out 8 batters.

Nice to see Greene 2-2, too. To.

Just wait until next inning when someone faces the top of the line up. . ..

He has led off a couple innings now ...

middle innings. He is a significant problem to our middle inning production.

speaking of trades

I watched some of the Yanks-Red Sox game (I was hoping for a meteor) earlier and McCarver said Epstein told him the Sox would consider trading Ramirez, if he would waive his no-trade clause. Anybody else catch that?

by nota bene on Jul 26, 2008 9:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

yeah i caught it

i want absolutely no part of manny ramirez. ever.

by stlcardinalsfang on Jul 26, 2008 9:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

me neither

but it’s not everyday that a GM tells the press that he’s open to trading a guy with 500 HRs. Think he’ll go to the Yankees? Bwahahaha….

I would be willing to trade 2-3 good pitching prospects for a decent shortstop prospect.

Since Edgar left shortstop has been a backhole for us. It is becoming another second base and we simply cannot allow that.

Ank with a flyball to get the lead.

Then a mistake to Glaus.

First priority is getting the lead. I know we can’t protect one at the moment, but a lead is still the lead.

How abut moving Ank back to the mound? Think it would be worse than Flores?

Love the game. Think the officiating is by far the worst of the three major American sports, ruins so many games.

They ought to use a Native American word.

With all the PC Police on native american names lately I am sure they won’t, but that would be the thing to do.

might have been sitting on a fastball….

I thought most his Hr's were off breaking stuff,
