Hrabosky is dumb

it doesn’t matter if there is a guy at first or not, they would pitch to Pujols right here

on outside pitches

is the real concern to me

by sportsman on Jul 25, 2008 9:58 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

it's not really a concern

he just needs to remember how to go the other way. He’s trying to pull EVERYTHING right now. It may take teams putting the shift on for him for him to realize how bad it’s become.

It happens to the best of them

I can remember back in the 80’s when a great hitter like George Brett had a two week slump.

But I do think he needs a few days off maybe,

He'll break out of this slump

and then the game will need a break from Albert again.

Also, a play very early in the game, he fielded a grounder at first

and threw to second to start a DP, but there was 2 outs. His head just doesn’t seem to be in the game right now.

by Raconteur on Jul 25, 2008 10:04 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That was a sound play

There was an easy out at 2nd there and a fast Beltran gunning for first.

by liam on Jul 25, 2008 10:05 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

he lobbed to 2nd, he wasn't looking for 2

I guess

the ball was smoked and he could’ve easily beat Beltran to the bag. But I guess I misinterpreted what he was doing.

Yep

Going through (hopefully at the tail end of) the worst stretch of the season, and still 3.5 back in the WC race. Plenty of time to make up that deficit… ‘specially with the two big righthanders joining the rotation in a coupla.

by liam on Jul 25, 2008 10:14 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I hope this is one of those series

where we lose the first and end up winning the next two, and not like that one where we lost the first and then the rest.

by liam on Jul 25, 2008 10:02 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Mabye not beat him, but at least

get to the bullpen and make a game of it. the next six days shall be interesting.

My fellow Americans. As a young boy, I dreamed of being a baseball, but tonight I say, we must move forward, not backward, upward not forward, and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom.

by Alxfritz on Jul 25, 2008 10:04 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm torn, I can't decide if I want the Brewers to win tonight or not

I mean, I really dislike them after last night, and technically we are still in this thing. But the thought of Cubs losing sole possession of first place sounds good as well.

When we deployed after Sep 11th,

We were in a really crappy place-hot, dry, dusty, living in tents, getting mortared and snipers shot at us on a regular basis. Not hot meals for three weeks, had to eat MRE’s. Toilets were literally a hole dug in the ground until we could build our own crappers-and we had to burn the poo every night. When we took off on missions, we came under fire almost immediately on departure and then as we returned to base (and we weren’t even in Afghanistan, we were in a neighboring country). Well, we were all sitting around feeling sorry for ourselves, and bitching and pissing and moaning about whatever the hell it was. Our commander walked by, listened to us vent for a little bit, and said:

“I appreciate the hardships you’re going through, and the stress of combat can take a toll on a person. But boys, you ain’t going home anytime soon, so you just need to embrace the suck.”

Prescient words from a prescient man, and considering the current streak of bad baseball we are watching with the Cardinals, most appropriate.

"Is this Heaven?"
"No, it;s Iowa."
"I could've sworn it was Heaven."

Embrace The Suck

that’s a very appropriate frame of mind for all of us to have. i’m going to have learn to embrace the suck in my personal life as well.

thank you for your service to our country. it’s men & women like yourself that help keep our country free. and i thank you for your sacrifice.

I'm going to go try to find a puppy and kick it. - Brad Thompson AND THAT'S A WINNER!

The one thing I forgot to add

Things did get better. We eventually got flush toilets, hot food, the daily mortaring quit, and we eventually all came home, one way or another. It never did cool down, though.

Just like the Brewers and beginning of the Mets series, things will get better. The hitters will hit, starters will pitch late into games, and it sounds like Carp is close to being back, with Waino hopefully right behind him.

We’re still in the thick of this thing, and I’m telling you, with 6 games against the Flubs in Sept, anything is possible.

They’re going to the playoffs. You heard it here first.

"Is this Heaven?"
"No, it;s Iowa."
"I could've sworn it was Heaven."

Amen

And thanks for eloquently putting into perspective that we are talking about a Game.

"A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while."- Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh

Good story.

Well told.

And good for you for seeing the wisdom in your commander’s words. I doubt it was easy to hear such a blunt statement and readily accept it.

Embrace the suck. That is great. I guarantee I will repeat those words and maybe your entire retelling someday.

Why was Boggs starting today?

This may have been asked before, but why did we “send down Garcia to bring up Boggs for bullpen help” only to end up using Boggs as a starter? I would’ve rather seen Garcia.

On with the (good) youth movement!

by aet15 on Jul 25, 2008 10:57 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I don't know but it seems like everytime we bring

some of these pitchers up from Memphis and they don’t do real great in the majors it takes that “prospect” aura away and they are not worth much as trading chips anymore if we were to try and trade. But with the injuries it couldn’t really been avoided. Let’s just hope Garcia doesn’t have too many bad outings if he is called back up. I would hate to see another one of our “prospects” turn into just another average farm hand. I’m not sure if Boggs was really considered a “top prospect” but still….

by KYCards on Jul 25, 2008 11:05 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

they should have left garcia up

he pitched well enough to move him back to the pen.. Parisi should have never been moved from the pen.

I can't believe i gave up a homerun to that punch and judy hitter-major league 2

boggs is doing pretty much what the projections said he would

the final

"I believe he’s been reincarnated, that he played before, in the twenties and thirties, and he’s back to prove something." - Former teammate Mark McGwire about Albert Pujols

Embrace the suck. Fantastic post and places the situation in perspective. Yesterday in a Bangkok

construction lot – piles of rubbish, concrete block and noise – I watched an old, old lady who was working for probably $4 a day, sweep away some dirt and pick up a discarded plastic zebra long discarded. She limped to a nearby make-shift shrine, set the zebra on the altar and prayed and smiled. It was her karma to discover a small bit of happiness and she wished to thank the fates for the moment of joy.

We could all do with some (of this type) humility.. . .

An optimist is a man who upon discovering that a rose smells better than a cabbage concludes it will make better soup.
